I heard this live back in 1976 and it floored me then and still floors me now. Making it all the more special is knowing Elton performed it at young AIDS victim Ryan White's funeral gratis. He became very close with the family and with Ryan as he slowly lost his battle to AIDS, which he got from a blood transfusion. It was Ryans death that got Elton to assess his own lifestyle and go into rehab.
Visit my channel and hear the first and original recording of "Skyline Pigeon" by James Roger Cooke. Predates Elton's recording of same on 'Empty Sky' by ten months.
My parents brought me up on Elton's music. They were major fans growing up. Everything he does is magical and brings back childhood memories. I have almost everything he released except The Thom Bell Sessions and Victim of Love and his last one with Leon Russell, I think it was. This song really gets me emotional.
Elton's voice was in a higher register when he was younger. I guess that's normal for it to drop in later years. Plus, he had surgery on his vocal cords at one point. Great song. I love the original off of Empty Sky the best. Reminds me of being a kid.
What's strange (and yet fascinating) to me, whenever I'm listening to Elton John's songs, is that when he first starts to talk, and then sing is the difference with his voice.
What I mean is how deep his voice is when he's singing compared to talking. But yet its still amazing.
"Skyline Pidgeon" é de um disco do mesmo ano cujo título é:
"Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player: 1973", eu tinha dez anos nessa época, nunca tinha visto a cara do cara, porque tv naquela época era artigo de luxo, e vc de vinte e cinco com um tremendo bom gosto. Mas deixa-me dizer que eu penso que o melhor dele está nesta época...nos anos setenta
A really great version of this song... I love it..
But two things: 1. the spanish voice in the begining is really annoying and I really hope that it is never repeated. And 2, the studio version of this song isn't NEARLY as good as the live versions. ^^
Obviously, the spanish voice is an interpretation of what Elton is saying...no big deal... Not everyone speaks English. - - Incredible piece of music; one of my favorites. Thanks for posting this!
He's more than just a musician. He's continually written hit after hit for fourty years and has changed so much yet never in a bad way. He is more than 'just' a musician!
This song always manages to make me feel sad since it reminds me of my deceased budgie. What a simple yet powerful song. I prefer his deeper voice to this song.
Amazing, it actually made me cry, damn this man is powerful, his melodies and Taupin's lyrics are very special. and on top of that, he has one of the biggest voices in this world! I still can't believe his talent. God Bless

This whole concert is surreal. Listen to Greatest Discovery and Tonight. Fantastic! Wish I could find it on dvd...

Deixe-me apenas acordar de manhã,
Com o aroma do feno recém-cortado,
Para sorrir e chorar, para viver e morrer,
No brilho do meu dia...
