The drink was invented and named by fictional secret agent James Bond in the 1953 novel Casino Royale. "A dry martini," [Bond] said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet." "Oui, monsieur." "Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?" "Certainly, monsieur." The barman seemed pleased with the idea. —Ian Fleming, Casino Royale
@Rigidyroofless it's VESPER - named after the girl in Vesper Lynd from the 1953 James Bond book "Casino Royale". Also it's IN the recipe to SHAKE it, again from the book. You never heard James Bond's catch phrase 'shaken, not stirred"? Also James Bond is a British creation. Lol, everything in your post is wrong.
I have watched a few of this guys videos now, and he is trying to do a good thing. Problem is he gets a lot wrong and seems to be slated in at least 1 comment for every video. My comment is this:
Thanks for the effort but just do a little more research 1st, and if you do want to change from the original/classic way of making the drink, tell every 1 that that is what you are doing and then why. I.E you think it tastes better or its cheaper. BTW no hate intended.

Smirnoff is low-rent peasant vodka. James Bond would never drink that crap. Bond would use Jean Marc XO. By the way, your video looks like a low-budget porno.
@plitwit the exact opposite, bond clearly drinks Smirnoff in several of the movies. In Dr No (the first bond film), Tommorow never dies, the world is not enough.
@plitwit ACTUALLY IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT JAMES BOND YOU WOULD KNOW THAT FOR LIKE 30 YEARS THE BOND BRAND OF VODKA WAS SMIRNOFF YOU FUCKING IDIOT please think before you speak you jackass
Shake (if you must) with plenty of cracked ice. [Mix] 3 oz Tanqueray gin, 1 oz 100-proof Stolichnaya vodka, 1/2 oz Lillet Blanc, 1/8 teaspoon (or less) quinine powder or, in desperation, 2 dashes of bitters. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and twist a large swatch of thin-cut lemon peel over the top. this is what bond used in the new movie so you can get a much closer taste of what the old drink might have been. using much better choices this time i think goes down much better as well
...you're actually wrong... in the movie, Bond, says a splash of Kina Lillet; it would be a little hard to make it that way since they stopped making Kina Lillet in the 80's... so you have to use lillet blanc... it's the only substitute.
Bond uses Gordan's Dry Gin

how does it taste? is it worth it?
devegus 2 years ago
@devegus my friends/drinking buddies say it tastes like paint stripper. i like it though. it's a very strong taste

This is not the correct recipe. Its
3oz. Gin (I use Beefeater instead of Gordon's)
1oz. Vodka (I use Belvedere or ABSOLUT)
0.5 oz. Lillet Blanc (I tend to add a little more that 1/2 an ounce)
Also, Your lemon twist looks sloppy. I use the side of a lemon zester to make a perfect long strip.

correct !

I'm not talking about the Vermouth. I'm talking about the measures of gin to vodka. It should be 3 to 1.
