  • can you import models from 3DS Max?

  • atdrone is better

  • where can I download this for free?

  • thank you utorrent

  • but....will it blend????

  • But willl it blend?

  • is this for terrorists????

  • @adamsapple005 Sheesh! If this is really how scared people are of terrorist activity, it just goes to show that terrorists have actually accomplished their goal of terrorizing people! Why do we grant them this sense of "Mission Accomplished!?" I actually think it'd be scarier if these types of ideas fell in the hands of certain governments or corporations closer to home.

  • @adamsapple005 a terroist is not to kill people to fear them.they have got nothing to do with islam.a terroist does not belong in islam.in islam it about peace.and btw terroists only do terroist attacks to show somethng not a threat.do you see any terroists use a fucking rc plane to kill innocent ppl? they sacrifice them selves because the idiots think its a deed

  • @adamsapple005 do you have brain cells ( dam i hope that your comment is meant as a joke)

  • what the hell am i watching

  • is it like a game?

  • Didn't they use X-Plane during the development of Spaceship One and White Knight?

  • lol blender

  • will it blend?

  • @danklaue I actually own X-plane 9 and it runs the piaggio avanti pretty good. The only problem is that X-plane brings up a message that says that I have to many rendering options enabled and it greatly reduces visibility

  • Would it work on a 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 with 2 GB RAM?

  • @ninjanessly10 Probably. You can check out the X-Plane 9 demo first, and try to fly the Piaggio Avanti (one of the default planes). If it works fine on your system, you'll most likely be able to make use of the Verticopter without any problems.

  • @ninjanessly10 you need a better computer.

  • WHERE IM I, I THOUGHT THIS WAS AIRHOGS

  • Simulation processing is entangled with the frame rate !?

The worst engine ever made! Go learn something with game industry.

  • I watched it all 0_0

  • that was 8 min wasted from my life

  • Lol just another way to get terrorists with every detail of the planed

  • What are the system requirements for the Verticopter?

  • @epicflyer45783678511 Any computer more recent than about 3-4 years old.

  • @danklaue, is Model Name: MacBook Model Identifier: MacBook5,2 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 3 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz Enough?

  • @epicflyer45783678511 Should work. I built the Verticopter on a computer with those specs. Let me put it this way: if you download X-Plane demo (version 9.7), and run it on your computer, you'll get an idea of what kind of performance you'll get on your computer. You can tweak graphic settings in X-Plane to maximize frame rate, and basically, if you can run a plane like the default Piaggio Avanti, you will FOR SURE be able to run the Verticopter just fine.

  • @danklaue, I have owned X-Plane for many years. Since v7 i beieve. I'm looking forward to buying the Verticopter in 5 minutes. (:

  • It's like a 1 man Tau Manta

  • and we need some powerful pc for this program.

  • @karakuraable Not really... you can easily run this plane on a 3-4-yr old computer.

  • Keep up the awesome work!

  • song??????????/

  • @nitrorcfreak100 Let there be light, by Mike Oldfield.

  • que mmarica+++++++++++++++++

  • looks like the army is gan aget a new uav drone lol at mw3 XD

  • you need far too many fingers to fly in X plane I hveit installed it and removed it .That said the graphics are superior to any flight sim so far

  • @cpnstav You can program joystick buttons to do just about anything you want in X-Plane. No need to have more than 10 fingers. X-Plane is not an arcade sim, that's true... and graphics isn't even its main strength, although they ARE good. Its strength is accuracy and flight model dynamics realism. And the fact that you can make concept planes and test fly them. You can't really do that in other sims.

  • OH DAMN YOU!!!

when I was a child i USUALLY draw those things when i was bored. so. alot of times.

Now finaly some richy company decided to destroy my dream by creating something that has been 7 years in my mind :(((((((((((((

i'm still 14 so i can have new dreams..but..DAME IT!

  • @RayTV100 This same phenomenon has happened to me so many times! But the more I've thought about it, the more I'm realizing: anybody can have an idea. Take the iPhone or iPad for instance. How many people before its time have said, "Wouldn't it be cool to have..." and they go on to describe an all-in-one phone or tablet. What's REALLY valuable is someone with the vision and smarts and business savvy to execute the idea in a way that REALLY works. RIP, Steve Jobs.

  • @danklaue

    i/knooow!

    any1/can/make/an/idea,/the/problem/is,/are/they/famous/or/rich.

    toobad!

  • @RayTV100 Work hard then... having a dream is one thing, turning it into reality is far more difficult.

  • @RayTV100 That happens to everyone. Truth is, unless you have the money to make it real, it will always remain a dream.

  • @RayTV100 ,, Lots of ways to fly..

  • YOUR VOICE!!!! ITS INSIDE ME!!!!!!!!!

  • WTF 3:55

  • 4:05 Hit the switches bitches!!!!

  • ikr i fell asleep twice

  • Horrible performance.

  • The puffers are a great ideea for this plane

  • What are its glide characteristics?

  • Does this thing exist in real life?

Imean, with a size to fit a human in it?

  • @FoxerF1 doubt it. Try to google.

  • uncle sam!O-O satans a mason study freemasons!do it now damn it no NWO!no satanic rituals!wtfUSA is full of freemasons!

  • @ThePorto7 Exacto, muy bonito como juguete, pero jamas alcanzaria eficiencia suficiente para competir con otros diseños... pero imagino el show les permitira reunir buen capital...

  • ok it was quite boring but its awesome i want an rc model and a real life one too

  • 17 People use FSX.

  • oxi lathos ekana ayta einai ontws

    pitses mple

  • This is very new & exciting technology but I need to take a dump!

  • interesting that your simulator just so happens to be made in relation to making a 3d model of this plan... dodgey science at best

  • Simply awsome, you nerds did this time!!!

  • i cheaper and lighter way to get controls for hover is not useing the puffers, but to use the jets engines haveing worked with CH47 i know that there is plenty of thrust left in the exhaust. like reverse trust for jet engines where deflectors come down and up to deflect the trust, simplely use your jets exhaust with simple thrust divertors and vents, bet it would be less weight then a compressor and storage tanks for puffers...plus its just wasted energy other wise. something to think about

  • do they ever think about families????

  • if you go to aplication data you can ajust the 10 minutes demo to unlimeted amount XD

  • 3:59 High Hamster Inside®

  • yeah but, will it blend?

  • I don't like the joystick control in planes. I'm much more used to the fighterstick controls, which are mounted between your legs.

  • I wonder what would be the controls in a 1:1 model / prototype: Would it be the same controls that of a helicopter (see throttle) or a jet (throttle). The stick would be the same, also the pedals.

Looks like the "UFO" USAF/NASA built a long long time ago (the engine reminds me of it).

  • Seems somewhat unstable.

  • also, how do u buy just 1 verticopter model because i really want the uav model

  • im a noob at settings on x-plane but how do u activate the lines that show thrust lift and drag and other things? if you answer this you will get subscribed to.

  • To flh the rc one is it still on x plane and can u use a controller that comes with the realflight rc flightsim?

  • @cacneaunit6

Probably. You can always try it out in X-Plane's free demo. If the rc unit can be recognized as a controller in X-plane's joystick window, then the Verticopter will work.

  • i see vertical landong. no take off. its a VL

  • @PLISKEN12 None on video, you're right. The test pilot has been very cautious so far. In its current configuration, it is not a full VTOL, and it isn't marketed as one either. If you've been watching the videos, you'll notice we've said all along that this is a STOVL aircraft... "Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing."

For vertical take-offs, it has to be equipped with puffers or other forms of static control mechanisms.

  • DO U HAVE AN RC MODEL?

  • @PLISKEN12

Yes, several. Go to triple-double-you (dot) verticopter (dot) com to see some videos of the RC planes.

  • wait wait wait when will the real 1 comeout

  • Awesomeness. Would the gearbox be more complex, compared to the KA-50/52 configuration?

    Appreciated

  • I've lived long enough to have seen many "It'll never work" concepts become everyday items. Every one of them only happened because of a dream, a hope and dogged belief that something would work. The instigators should be welcomed and encouraged. Not laughed at and abused. This man is no Charlatan. He is a forward thinking guy who believes in what he is trying to achieve. Nothing of value happens overnight, it takes drive, tenacity and guts. I for one believe he will succeed. Don't give up mate.

  • It makes me made to listen to the negativity of some of the writers. I don't think there has been a breakthrough of great magnitude which hasn't suffered from the same fate during history. Questions have been asked about CG shift etc. What happens with a Harrier when it goes to war? It takes of with thousands of pounds of armaments. Fires the whole lot off and returns to land in a vertical direction if needed. It compensates very well for CG shift. This world needs the drive this man shows..

  • just great what I saw why isnt it in production I dont understand

  • just great what I saw

  • Id invest in this, it's a good compromise....seems alot like the f35.

  • This product is all smoke and mirrors!

There are no actual factory line models currently in flight.

MSRP prices aren't listed for this wouldbe production model.

I'll admit you would make a good Donald Trump, your slick enough to con

gullible buyers out of there hard earn money.

  • @MTTTrainer

We never mention anywhere that we have a factory assembly line. We're making progress with prototyping, and we offer a virtual simulator product as of now. So there is no dis-honesty anywhere, no smoke and mirrors. You want to try the plane? Fly it in X-Plane. Want to try the real thing? You'll have to wait until we're out of prototyping and into production of the plane. You want to get it ON the assembly line faster? Consider investing.

  • I just arrived at the verticopter site to be greeted by an email asking me to go there. Thanks for invite I'm about to sign up. I don't intend missing the info for another 2 years. Thanks Danklaue. I wish I could donate mate but I'm a disabled Nam Vet on a pension. I still support what your aim is though, a shame some billionaire doesn't think the same. Maybe one day soon, we can wish.

  • Sorry, ran out of room. Congratulations and all the best for the future. Without people such as yourself we'd still be living in caves. Forget the morons and keep doing what you believe in. If you do licence a manufacturer to build an RC model There will be one in my collection. Prove the knockers wrong and get the baby up and running before I'm too old to enjoy the day. Bloody well done.

  • @stubaz32

Thanks, man! Did you by any chance sign up for the Verticopter newsletter? You can do so on the Verticopter (dot) com website. It just got released yesterday (Jan 8, 2011), and tells about the development of a real 1:1 scale prototype, as well as the RC plane development. This project is still very much alive and well. :)

  • You Must have ESP as well as talent. I was only speaking to a friend about Verticopter yesterday and wondered what happened to it. I purchased the first release when it was first mentioned on X-Plane. What a pleasant surprise to find it's still very much alive and kicking. Obviously I downloaded the new pack straight away.

Why is it with every new idea or concept some big mouth has to argue that it won't work. All through history closed minded usually uneducated have done exactly the same.

  • I thought VTOL was Vehicular Transportation Of Limes... :(

  • USAF " Skunk Work's " Spinoff ? Excellent Video !

  • Wow what an exquisite aircraft !!!!!

  • Wow picture one day we will have verticopters flying above a car chase or flying in a very hurt person to a hospital. Who knows they might even make fighter verticopters in war.

  • cool

  • id prefer a banshee

  • are there any chance of me keeping 1 on my drive way??

  • how much ?

  • my ears bleed

  • X-Plane might be all technical and shit =D, but it won't beat the superior graphics of MFS.

  • @TheHellz0r

It's getting there... Xplane10 will have amazing graphics. Also, often times graphic capabilities of that simulator are not nearly fully tapped by the developers. But new planes are coming as well, that will make a lot of FSX planes look simple.

  • @danklaue But Xplane 10 i think in this video or another explaining the Verticopter said that '' With 80 Gigs of scenery '', thats EIGHTY-GIGs, 80 GIGs!!! and then add the detailed graphics, it will be more!.

  • @TheHellz0r

Yes... but keep in mind, there might also be incredible graphics OPTIMIZATIONS for X-Plane 10, making amazing scenery possible at perhaps SMALLER file sizes.

  • @danklaue Like MFS

  • Have you made a model of the aircraft yet. Still waiting. You must have built a RC prototype by now.

  • I like it,, & id love to fly it!!!!

  • this thing is just too wonky to be of any use in the real world

  • @funkmasterfletch08

Provided you're not just a troll, like the previous guy (williamkendrick), I'll just say, there seems to be plenty of interest in this plane, especially from the surveillance sector. Calling it "wonky" is almost a compliment. Most great inventions seemed wonky to the folks of their day.

  • @danklaue i dont know what you mean by troll, thats the second time someone has said that about me. normally im an ok guy i just dont see this aircraft being in very high demand outside wealthy enthusiasts and airshows alike

  • @danklaue exactly! take baths for instance. back in the day people thought that taking baths was "wonky" then the plague happened. :P

  • does auto gate work for the full version of x plane?

  • "Whether carrying 1 thin person, or seven large sumo-wrestlers, the prop is always in the center of gravity!"

It's amazing what we can do now days!

  • Just look at the size of the 7 seater! That's way too big for the amount of people it can carry.

  • I think the Verticopter and the Geobat platforms are the most interesting aircraft of the future. The Geobat will be in the air far quicker than the Verticopter. The Verticopter is just more complex, I think the Verticopter could still make it as a standard aircraft with a very short take off roll instead of pushing for the vertical take off capability. Both are very good concepts.

  • @williamkendrick Nasa contacts danklaue and offers to build the first prototype (proof of concept). The "PROTOTYPE" fly's and is featured on T.V. ,and you got the balls to call him a loser. Go play with your cartoons and rpg's little boy and when your tesla's can produce anything close to this you come back and impress us all.

  • @williamkendrick

Also, it would seem as though you could really benefit from looking up some definitions. Like those of words like "Prototype", "invention", "concept ", etc.

OK, so it's easy to spar with words. Which is what you're doing. It's also easy to get yourself informed, which you're not doing.

I'd like to see how easy it would be for you to conceptualize and design a plane. You can follow my video tutorials on YouTube, which showcase how to make a plane for X-Plane.

  • @williamkendrick If I really have to spell it out for you:

    1. Go to verticopter(dot)com (Hyperlinking not allowed in these comments)

    2. Click on "Videos"

    3. Click on one of any one of the 16 (SIXTEEN) videos depicting the real (REAL) prototype in various stages of test flights at NASA's Dryden Research Centre.

A CONCEPT is any idea prior to its full production run. So many concept cars and planes have already been prototyped.

Show me a better simulation of a concept plane.

  • one more statment. you said that every major startup CONCEPT.

basically, you just admitted that what i said is true. you have no true prototype, just a bunch of 1's and 0's.. also.. what you said is totally wrong. if you dont have funding to begin with, why are you doing this? hobby? dream? what? you give no information, only a few simulations (POORLY DONE I MIGHT ADD). but enough, you're bullshit, everyone who comes here OR your page will see it :) feel free to block me, as i have done you

  • this will never work. milestones? YET YOU HAVE NOT EVEN A PROTYPE?

i'm sorry, but this is b.s. its obvious that yo'ure just trying to sell a simulator, not a prototype.. this is false advertising. this isn't even a prototype; its simply a theory. WOW. great job.. lets see a prototype. otherwise this is nothing but blowing air out your nose.

  • @williamkendrick

Obviously, you have not been to the Verticopter website. Neither have you seen the latest videos, published right here on YouTube. This video was posted one year ago. In the meantime, we've gone through several functional RC prototypes.

Also consider this: The V22 Osprey was in development for 25 years. And it was GOVERNMENT FUNDED. This Verticopter idea has been developed for only 1/4 of that time, and we aren't funding our development with bottomless funds.

  • @williamkendrick

    Another point to consider:

Nowadays you'd be hard-pressed to find an aircraft concept that does not go through a significant virtual phase in its development process. We're merely making that available to the public.

  • @danklaue heres something to consider:

i think you are fishing for funding. i dont think this can be built. show me a prototype.

  • You say, "Show me a prototype"

I say, "Go to our website and my other YouTube videos, and you'll see the prototypes"

You say, "You're fishing for funding. Show me a prototype."

I say: "Every major start-up concept requires funding. We have functional prototypes. Please, check out the Verticopter website."

You can choose to believe whatever you wish, but in an era where it's so easy to get yourself informed, you're not coming across as too much of an authority in this matter.

  • uh you do know that the planet is trying to move towards solar energy, why would you develop technology based on combustion?

  • @shakaama

If you look around, there are only very few planes that are being developed with alternate powerplants. It is not as easy to change propulsion technology for aircraft as it is for cars. However, we have the advantage of being able to "grow along with" the improvements in electric propulsion systems.

Since we are starting with radio controlled scale models and working our way up in size, we can continue fitting ever larger-scale models with electric powerplants.

  • (cont'd). So far, manned electric planes have been either short-range (1 hr flight max) or motor-glider-like, or stratospheric solar-cell wing aircraft... the power-to-weight ratio required by a VTOL aircraft is something that is possible with combustion engines only at this point, given that its technology has been developed to this stage over the past 100 years or so. Electric or alternate propulsion cancertainly reach and surpass such capability, but further development is necessary.

  • @shakaama agreed.. its obvious this will never see production. ever. whats the point of theorizing on youtube? ohhhhh.. you're trying to get folks to give you MONEY..

well i gotta say, this is just another joke. lol

  • do you have one for Flight Sim. X

  • You guys know that heat capture is a viable technology for green. A steam hybrid would be easy, cheaper and probably lighter and more efficient. They don't have to be heavy. You could have heat capture pneumatic drive too. You can have an internal combustion engine with quick change to steam hybrid. Think about it or it won't make sense.

  • Wow, that is AWSOME!!! : )

  • Beautiful airplane/heli. The puffer concept shouldn't be stored air though. You could use the engines to power a small generator that is connected to an air compressor so you would never run out of "stored air" Much safer that way.

    J

  • This is the best looking aircraft I've ever seen.

Is this going to be put into production at full scale as a personal or passenger vehicle?

Helicopters need updating, and this design looks like the future of things to me.

Great videos. Keep up the good work.

  • We just published an updated version of the verticopter(dot)com website. It has videos of test flights conducted with the REAL R/C 20% and 10% scale prototypes.

  • Yes, we all know CGI can create any fantasy and make it visible.

I'll be impressed when I see the Verticopter in a physical form. Hell, I'd love to see a Scale R/C form even.

  • If you really want to see video footage and pics of several RC versions of the Verticopter, you can go to verticopter(dot)net and create a user account.

  • OK. I found that and I would very much like to see video of the model you have pictured on the first page fly. The one video that is live shows something like any other runway R/C plane and from a distance. Let's see the VTOL system working up close.

So far I'm only finding more CGI "wishful" concept flights...

  • There's been several successful VTOL and STOVL flights, that behave pretty much exactly as the ones predicted with X-Plane's "blade element theory" aerodynamic prediction algortihms. The thing about X-Plane is, that it's not simply CGI. You should really do some research on X-Plane. Of course, one can enter "bogus" numbers, and get unrealistically high performance that way, but we've found the RC planes to actually perform BETTER than the X-plane versions.

  • I've played with a couple flight simulators and concept construction programs. I'm just more of an old fashioned 'let's build it then go outside and play' sort of fellow.

  • Flight simulators generally fall into 2 categories:

    1. programs where you enter theoretical flight performance values, that are then duly executed during flights.

    2. programs where a plane's dimensions, weight, airfoil, CG, etc. are entered, and the simulator calculates the resulting performance limitations, such as stall speed, top speed, take-off distance, etc. X-Plane does such calculations within typically 3% accuracy. This makes it a good prototyping tool that goes farther for less money.

  • There have been over a dozen successful RC flights so far, of which we haven't showcased all yet, due to some things we wish to keep under wraps for the time being.

The other thing is, this is STOVL, not VTOL. We aren't expecting to achieve full VTOL performance until we make use of puffers and other technologies that we want to build in to the plane once everything else about the flight characteristics is proven and tweaked to perfection.

  • I understand, proprietory means.

I'll be looking for the videos of the real world flights when you can get them in here.

Sleek concept, though. I like it.

  • TORRENTS

  • YEs X-Plane is a serious prototype development tool.

MSFS is a pretty a toy, but you could never actually design an aero dynamic shape for testing, besides, ACEs got the axe by microsoft anyway, so X-Plane is here to stay.

    Great tutorial, thanks.

  • Why not just get the aircraft onto Microsoft Flight Simulator X? Like you would if you wanted to get more planes.

  • You MSFS guys just don't get it. MSFS DOES NOT SIMULATE FLIGHT BEHAVIOR. You just punch in theoretical values, which MSFS unquestioningly follows. In X-plane, the flight behavior is calculated based on the plane's shape. MSFS is a GAME with nice eye candy. X-Plane is a DESIGN TOOL, using something close to CFD (Blade Element Theory) to predict a plane's flight behavior.

To get yourself more informed, I'd recommend watching video tutorials on PlaneMaker that I have on my channel.

  • @danklaue So I think the total is 80gigs. Sorry, my mistake.

  • @danklaue I have X-Plane v.9 and the box says that there is 60gigs of senery and my Dad says it has 60gigs of senery. I think the box says that it's 60gigs of senery because it's OPTIONAL senery.

  • He said 80 Gigs of senery when it's only 60 Gigs. Trust me, I have the game. (X-Plane).

  • @175Air

Which version do you have? Version 8's scenery was 60 GB, that's true. I'm pretty sure v9's scenery is 80 GB. But maybe that's because I also have custom scenery on my system.

Besides, I'd call it a "simulator" instead of a "game."

  • LOL at 4:05

  • asymetric mean unstable

  • Excellent video!

Question about the puffer jets for stability.

If the system was using tipjet technology on binary rotors already then air pressure take offs could be routed from that system to the puffer jets for vertical stability.

This would save weight in the craft by using one system for both applications rather than the drive connected rotors and a seperate compressor system to provide for the puffers.? Just a thought.

    ;^)

  • @ARMOROID5000

Interesting suggestion. My immediate thought is, that the rotary seals required for tip jets would be under much higher RPM loads for props than for rotors. Rotors are larger, turn slower, tip jets are more effective on them.

I believe there'd be some significant power loss in the ducts that lead to the puffers and tip jets as well.

Tip jets for helis have been tried many times, unsuccessfully. I don't think I've ever seen tip jets on regular props.

  • There are puffers on wing tips and front/rear of the plane. It works just like the Harrier VTOL jet.

  • im interested to know how do you compensate for the shifting center of gravity as more weight goes into the cockpit...

existing aircraft have some kind of trim to offset the longitudinal imbalance...

in forward flight i can see it wont be a problem, but if you say that your propellers dont have any cyclic control, how do you do it when you are hovering?

  • Good question! The approach Garrow is taking for this, is to pump fluid back and forth. Pumping fuel has the advantage of costing no more weight, but has the disadvantage of "running out," so only STOVL landings would be possible if the fuel gets too low. Pumping a different fluid would add weight, but it would be a closed system and not run out, giving control over CG all the time.

Concordes had a system to pump fuel to different tanks for CG purposes. This would be the system of choice.

  • An Arquitet designed this? To much large. Need to put the people up the engine and reduce the of wing by improve better space. Sorry!!!

  • lol...blender ^^

  • u should mass produce rc versions, once u work all the bugs out, and sell it to the american public, to fund full size testing!!!!!

I DEFFINETLY WOULD BY THE RC VERSION!!!!!! THEN WHEN I GET ENOUGHF MONEY, AND U MAKE FULL SIZED VERSIONS, I WOULD TOTALLY BUY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's the plan! I'm working on a 10% scale model, and the 20% scale model was successfully test-flown at NASA Ames a few weeks ago. It'll be doing another series of test-flights this weekend.

We'll be working our way up, as funding becomes available.

  • Dito, I want to see this VTOL on an small RC plane 1st.

  • i am wondering the vibration characteristics while the rotor is tilting or in hover

  • Honestly, we'll have to do some more real-life testing before being able to predict
