Anyone interested needs to research Bob Koga and his Bob Koga Aikido principles and arrest techniques for police. Known as the Koga Method and Technique. Don't say this stuff doesn't work in real world situations you need to ask a few police officers that have trained with him and use it quite frequently..he has taught everything from Navy Seals , Delta to local state and feds law enf ..
That was how a drunken idiot would throw a hook, maybe. But if someone knows how to hook, it doesn't swing around so loosely. It'll be driven right in there.
You people don't realize that these are instructional videos and when put to real use, they are much quicker and much more affective. This guy would dominate in a street fight, if attacked.
I've been practicing sports Karate and more recently Street Jeet Kune Do including boxing and want to try Aikido soon. I was wondering does Aikido generally work well against really good boxers because when we practice, it's usually with good foot work, keeping the arms in tightly, and snapping out combos like jab, cross and the hook would come later if needed. Or the running Cross punches which are difficult to defend. It just seem to be that Aikido could work but with a lot more training.
Check out Systema. It's like Aikido and close quater combat... and even for a boxer to be good it still takes a lot of dedication and training. That goes with just about anything ;]
I think aikido is useful for having to deal with a drunk friend or family member that has become out of hand. Where you want to control him without harming him... but hey, to each there own and whatever works for anyone is fine by me
The whole idea of Aikido is to keep your opponent OFF BALANCE! In this way, you can catch your opponent off balance and KEEP THEM off balance, controlling the fight.
i have not been doing aikido for very long, and this ACTUALLY works. i practice with my m8's at lunch :D.
this could work in a real fight, if someones throwing haymakers at you, and you did this it would work

Nor would they stand there and be thrown like that.
That is my problem with aikido. It only works with willing akido partners.
paguaplayer 3 years ago
no one would ever, if they know how to fight, throw a punch like that!
