Damn that is totally kick ass! All up and all over! BIG control and tone up the top end from Kim.... I can't believe the guy doesn't get more respect. Stunning.
He's regarded as one of the very best harp players and vocalists by peers and music fans alike and has been since the 1970s. None other than Muddy Waters was a fan of his, from the first time they met, at Antone's in the 1970s.
Heh heh... oh, I know he's certainly respected by fellow musicians. I've been following since the first T-Birds album. (My band opened for them in NZ in 1990.)
I just get sick of hearing from 'certain music fans' (you know the type!) about Butterfield and Musslewhite while Kim Wilson is largely unknown to them (in New Zealand at least).
For my part I've been evangelising for Kim Wilson since I heard the first notes of Girls Go Wild...
I first heard of the band at around the same time as you. I first saw them supporting Rockpile, in Birmingham U.K., promoting Girls Go Wild to a largely bemused crowd.
They returned just over a year later to promote What's The Word? and that was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
Musselwhite makes me nervous - will he make musical sense and/or be accurate or not?
I am also a big fan of Rod Piazza and James Harman, both friends of mine.
James is certainly as funny as his songs. He's great company. It is my regret that I didn't get the chance to spend more time with him. I had an open invitation to visit him in California but each time I had enough money, I spent it on recording instead.
His W.C.Fields impersonation is excellent, I remember that! I also recall that he told me that he'd spent an evening walking around Amsterdam with Rick Estrin and they laughed so much they couldn't stand it.
Hi angrykoopa...I am a Butterfield fan but I don't think Kim listened to him much.
He's a huge fan of George Smith, Rod Piazza, Little Walter, Big Walter, Junior Wells and Sonny Boy. I have never seen him mention Butterfield in print or heard him in a radio interview. As Vernuft says, Butter didn't play much first position harp.

though wilson is doubtless a harp master, the guitar-player do not listen to his fine solo, shit.guitar player should listen to sonny boy2 indeed then he knew better.

With respect - what do you mean exactly?
Best wishes from the U.K.

Yeah man, Harman is one of the best original songwriters in that style today! Love his work. Is he as funny in person as in his songs? ;-)
Piazza was out here last year, swinging like mad.
Nice to meet you bro.

I wish him well, that's for sure.
