They can cross many light years to get here, why waste energy exterminating humanity when chances are their technology is so advanced they could flick any resistance aside in a heartbeat whilst they get on with building space elevators and power stations and whatnot.
But that's just geekery on my part. It likely wouldn't make a very good film. :D

Well I think I would have liked it aged 16. I saw it when I was 18, but I'm a shameless geek, so it depends what you're like I guess. It's a film that requires a degree of intelligence from the viewer, especially at the end. It never explicitly says what the monolith does, but it's pretty easy to understand if you think around it a bit.

But the son of the father isn't very close to him, so he sort of disrespects him. Later that day, the sky goes dark and weird lightning is flashing, without thunder heard. When the father goes to town, there is a gaping hole in a street, and soon a giant Tripod comes out, and it turns out Aliens are invading the world. So apparently, its about a father saving his kids.

I just watched this movie on ABC for the second time I believe and it was a bad movie. Both Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise were annoying as hell. The actual "remake" of "WAR OF THE WORLDS" was INDEPENDENCE DAY and it was WELL DONE! This tom cruise film along with his others really really suck as does he and his cult belief---scientology---total BS and was created by a science fiction writer on a bet---very dangerous group of folks---scientologists--

All of his movies are and will always be masterpieces. He´s the most recognized director and producer in the history of movie making. And this movie was no exception. Independence Day was great, and so was this one. Period.

I just watched this movie on ABC for the second time I believe and it was a bad movie. Both Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise were annoying as hell. Did anyone else notice that they'd softly talk over each other and build up to a scream? It happened over and over again. The aliens were unimpressive, this is a good movie to pass the time, certainly void of entertainment.

I was like ... 8 when i first watched this ... so my reactions were like the little girls in this film :/ haha was scared for about a year , looking out the window at school expecting a big tripod to be walking up the hill.

every War of the Worlds movie out there has about... mmm.... 0% to do with the book. i mean srsly, its like film makers think since the writer is dead, they have complete freedom to add their own imagination to the already classic story (which they do, but that dont make it right). the book has the best story so far. dont get me wrong either, the movies are still awesome
