Jimmy sure is a very Lyrical bass player. I read an article about him and Allan several years ago. They would work out which one of the notes in each chord was best for Jimmy to use for his bass lines. Now that's really taking a song apart. I've been listening to Allen since UK. Allan did for Jazz Guitar what Jimi Hendrix and Eddy Van Halen did for Rock Guitar. Explode it. These guys give us new direction when we get lost and keep playing the same standard scales over and over.
I'm listening to this for the first time, and while I may not be able to appreciate the music itself, I can definitely appreciate the talent that went into its creation.
On a side note, can anyone recommend me some of Holdsworth's more accessible stuff? So i can work my way up to this, so to speak.
@Ananthrk There's one called "All Night Wrong" that is live with just trio without any synths.. you can hear him in the raw in a beautiful way.. also IOU is a very "accessible" recording.. would be my 2 suggestions.
I will never understand why the world's greatest guitarist has decided to master an instrument that sounds just like another instrument that he has a great friend that can play that even better than him. I fuckin dislike the SynthAxe for that reason.

@worldcitizenforever Kei Akagi is an excellent keyboardist, and it's MEANT to sound slightly off-tune and out of phase. Have you even heard the original? It's pretty much dead-on here.

@ecxpac yes, you are dead on, i believe they are using augmented intervals here. the augmented chords give it that slightly "off" sound and when done intervally it gives it that phasing in and out texture..truly brilliant musical application of theory and creativity, these cats are like "out there" (in a good way of course) they are so genius and talented that it borders on incomprehensible to the untrained "typical" ear for music :)
Who is the guitarist?

This must be incredibly difficult music to play, but Kei's generosity with the pitch wheel in the beginning almost ruined it for me.
