I own a 2111 and I can say its safety is OK (even without airbag). I once crashed into a Golf IV with 60kph and I hardly felt anything. The VW was more badly damaged, on my Lada there were some body repairs to do but the radiator didn't break, after the accident I drove it 20 km to the service station.

Old RWD types have much worse safety of course, they are much older designs.
