  • Terrible sound. My poor speakers.

  • Ian Curtis, Would have hated this.

  • embarrassing

    it sounds fucking snide

    sing ya own songs

    you fucking killed this

    great post............................

  • I think they did a pretty good job, my favorite cover of this though is by winedarksea.

  • bah, how can you say they ruined this song. I adore Joy Division but I also love The Killers. Yes, this cover has nothing on the original but they did not destroy it they just changed it and took it in a totally different direction. I like it.

  • fuck off killers you bunch of wankstains.

  • LOL Killers need to twat off and die.

This cover is worse than cancer.

  • blasphemous. a bunch of hacks ruining a great song

  • i just think its a shitty vid, the killers did an ok job

and aswell you tell me what is better than the original in anything'??????????? get off there backs, aswell joy division will live on they are the kill love there stuff it is gooooooood music so i apreciate that the killers cover one of there songs you douches

  • this is sad..... killers need to retire and stop butchering other peoples music..... i cried 5 times in the watching of this video

  • i bet none of the ppl in the audience knew what song this was.. such a waste

  • So blasphemous.......

  • Can they be deported for this?

  • if he could see what the killers did to his song he probably would suicide again... worst cover ever, worst band ever, such an insult...

  • fucking shut up, all that the killers are trying to do is show appreciation for good music ok!!!

  • The problem is, that these guys, the killers, did not understand and w'ont ever understand, what joy division's music is about. It's not enough to turn the amps to max. Spacken!!!!

Check New Orders 'Love will tear us apart' performend decades after Ian's dead, with respect to their history and tears in his mates eyes. And Massive Attacks 'New Dawn Fades'. They understood erverything!

  • the original is better

  • i like the killers version better but i still think joy division is awesome

  • Where is the Rimac Arena? Peru?

  • San Diego

  • OMG you guys are sooo narrow-minded !! Joy Division's version is really good, like awesomely good and the Killers' version is totally different, it's just been modernised for younger audiences who haven't even heard of Joy Division.

Stop hating, The Killers are paying a tribute to Joy Division.

OPEN YOUR MIND and stop calling everybody 'gay'. It'ss getting ridiculous and sooo off-topic.

  • fuck you fag Ian Curtis should come down from heaven and beat the living shit out of you

  • no, he would be sad because you are giving out agressive words and don't think about the issues you are talking about. it's because of ignorant and agressive people like you that he killed himself.he was mentaly sick because of the pressure people who judge and hate make on a sensual individual

  • No I don't think that's it at all.

  • shit

  • HORRIBLE !!!

Stick to your gay disco shit and leave Joy Division songs in peace !

  • AGREED

  • wow this is bad, stupid fucking killers

  • You can't even hear anything...

  • This band had to come along and butcher a cool Manchester band. Typical fuckin Vegas.

  • this cover is shit compared to joy divisions original

  • It is a great song from Joy division and the song though remembered fondly by all is getting replayed again to a younger audience who never got to hear it from Ian Curtis thank The killers for giving it new life and new interest in Joy division to a younger audience.

  • ....While pissing off everyone who has heard Joy Division....

  • I could care less! get a life!

  • If you didn't care, you never would have responded.

And I doubt The Killers want a younger audience to go buy Joy Division albums. All they want is for those people to buy THEIR albums and make money off of them. It all the industry is there for.

  • agreed !!! i fuckin hate it

  • Excellent sound quality.

  • hehehe lol xD

  • si stoy kontigo la neta a mi no m latio ste cover nada k ver kon joy division

  • creo que mucha de la gente que esta en ese concierto no sabe quien es joy division, ojala que despues de este cover lo escuchen para que se les enchine la piel.

  • I was around when Joy Division were, and The Killers should be applauded for covering this, they are a good band

  • really tho? not that I was around when Joy Division was, but I have the upmost respect for what they did & accomplished. And when I see/hear a band like the Killers, I can't help but think to myself "Wanna-be/Rip-off" or something along those lines. Am I wrong for thinking/feeling that? Cuz honestly, I can't stand the Killers, they're so pretentious & don't sound original at all... like a crappy cover band or sumthing, i dunno!? maybe it's just me, is it!?

  • I think it's just you.

Here in America, there is no band that sounds the way the Killers do...none that I've heard atleast. IF you know of anyone, feel free to list them because I'd love to listen! I love this shit.

  • Anything by Joy Division is great! If you weren't listening to SOME Joy Division in the 80's, then i don't know what kind of friggin rock you were living under! As for The Killers' version, every cover includes the band covering to add their own style. So get use to it! It's great! Was so excited to hear The Killers covering the song when i heard it for the first time on the radio.

  • Who needed more coldness and pain?...the 80's were hard enough to survive without Joy Divisions depressing music....So no i wasn't listening tto them....I was into Rockabilly revival which didn't remind me about how shit life really was.

  • Well i never said people had to be die hard fans of Joy Division. Just to acknowledge them, their music and listened to them at least once or twice in your life time.

  • Still living in the past JIMBOB?

  • Just a cover geeez, they are paying homage to Joy Division not trying to be them. Not a great video but decent cover

  • This is a terrible cover. I respect that The Killers are paying Homage to legends like Joy Division but it seems they don't "get" the song. The original showcased the pain and coldness that Joy Division had intheir music. On it's own if it wasn't a cover you have a decent song. When you hear the original and know how Ian Curtis was, you would hear the Killers version and think to yourself "This isn't an acurate representation" of the song. The song should have a cold and painful feel to it.

  • They made it for the movie Control, and were told by the director to make it more cheerful... They just made their own version of it=) A cover doesn't have to be exactly similar to the original.. I love the original too by the way..!

  • i totally agree with you, i think it's a good version.

  • Glad to hear it joeydevil, i think you are spot on. These Killers have totally missed the point, where is the AWESOME SOLO in the joy division original at 2:10? Its not even in here, i think this is ChildsPlay, Ian Curtis would turn in his grave if he had the misfortune of hearing these Mr Potato-Heads murder his song. Disgrace. Don't post this cover, PLEASE. Killers= pop culture. Creativity comes from a space beyond the Mind. The Killers should find that space.

  • Thats bullshit, The killers are one of the most creative bands to come out since 2000, and this cover is great, they did the original soong justice

  • I AGREE WITH YOU MAN

  • If justice means giving it vocals that sound like a 12 year old boy and making it sound like another poor pop song on the radio, then yes, they did some mighty fine justice.

  • i think that the man is very talented and i think the killers music should not be heard without thinking that they are putting a twist on the music, if you cant take this cover then dont listen..i love this song it is a great cover its so dancey

  • CHeck out Ian CUrtis dancing, brotherman. Unreal- check out shadowplay by joy division. You'll see where Mr Bean gets his dancing from, bruddafromanuddamudda ; )

  • ive seen it...so whats your point? it has nnothing to do with what i was talking about

  • Do you really think in almost 30 years from now.. someone is going to cover any of "The Kilers" songs??? I really doubt it.

  • Joy division sucks. Ian Curtis sounds like hes talking not singing. Killers are better

  • We live in an insular culture in which songs are played to death for six months, and you never hear them again. Most of you reading this would never have heard a note of Joy Division if Trent Reznor hadn't covered Dead Souls. I personally don't care why The Killers covered Shadowplay, I'm just thankful they did, because it needs to be heard, and it needs to be played.

  • i agree with verticalslum, the killers sucks live, i saw them and they think they're god or somthing. They're killing a classic.

  • I know these guys are influenced by Joy Division but who ever says this is a good cover should have their fucking head examined. plain and simple they fucked up a classic.

  • this is a great cover. the killers did not covered this song because they want the world to know that they are better than joy division but they are HONORING the band that influenced them by playing this song. it is just that simple.

  • you all know nothing about music..

this is a great cover! i really really really dont know what are you talking about..

    what a morons

  • What a talentless twat and what a horrible band. He has the audacity to think he has the talent to cover Ian Curtis? I feel sick to my stomach.

  • Ian Curtis is and was just a man. This song sounds bad on THIS video because it was probbaly recorded on some crappy cell phone. And if I am correct Id say that Ian Curtis hung himself like a pussy. Joy Division is great though!

  • explain how you "hang yourself like a pussy"???

  • what a pile of fuzzy crap...poor joy division..

  • yaaay..k this vers of the song is horrible cuzz its all fuzzy..but they r releasing this song in like less then a month!!!!

  • and they do this cover because they love joy division so much they want to share it with theyre own fans, and give one on curtis's songs a place in their own gig. talent respects talent, curtis wud love to know one of his greatest comments on his tragic life is still performed by great acts over 20 years later and tht it was of gd enuf quality to sound great in eny genre. your the ones tht dnt understand division. go n listen to yur phil collins albums!

  • hahaha you fucktards

for a start the killers aren't agnsty, they're fucking millionaire rockstars, wot wud they be angsty about? hahaha i think yur confusin them with ppl like my chemical romance and similar bands tht hav to replace talent with depression

  • Stop giving Joy Division a bad name.

  • Fuckin horrible cover!!

  • the screwed it up completely. they destroyed it! what the fuck are they doing?!

  • Well, it's better than Fall Out Boy's cover of "Love Tear Us Apart". Except for that "ooh ooh ooh" crap.

  • Cart wait for the movie about ian curtis and joy division 'control'. Hope its a true reflection of curtis' life!

  • you be sure and tell us if it isn't.

  • This is why bands like Joy Division and Nirvana shouldn't be covered...especially by a bunch of self absorbed pussies like The Killers. To quote Dave Grohl "Do these guys get their angst at K-mart?"

  • stfu

  • i love them singing this, but I just love brandon singing anything.

  • Why are they bothering to covering this? To paraphrase Jaime Gumm, they don't know what pain is. Pain to the Killer's is perhaps waking up and finding out that Mitt Romney still isn't president.

  • correction: who Joy Division were.*

  • some guy told me about this at Coachella; i thought he was joking. this is an absolute exhibition of atrocity. disgusting. horrendous. i'm willing to bet 90% of the crowd don't even know who Joy Division are [given The Killers' fanbase]. for my fellow San Diegans who actually attended this attempt at an "homage", shame on you. Ian Curtis is turning in his grave- that is, his ashes are. thanks a lot, Brandon Flowers.

  • Joy Division Sucks and Never could come close to the Killers popularity or number one hits. The only reason this song is any good is because the killers remade it. They took a shit song and made it badass ;)

  • you must be high or just really stupid, because only then could a person come up with logic like that. since when does having X number one hits or the amount of records sold or how many arenas sold out or apperances on the MTV awards indicate how good a band is? quality, not quantity, child. ingenuity and originality over pure image. and thanks, you made my point for me: The Killers is pure style over substance.

  • Dont be jealous of their popularity.

  • how am i jealous of their popularity? i wouldn't want to be known as being in a band that is too derivative of their predecessors and is unable to come up with an original sound. i was commenting how a song by such an important band like Joy Division was desecrated by a band like The Killers, who lack originality and have no regard for making sensible music. face it.

  • i could spend a few hours giving you a discourse on how important Joy Division is. but since your Ritalin must be taken every 30-45 mins or so to retain effect, i'll try to condense it. they pretty much started a musical genre, which influenced many bands since. their albums, Unknown Pleasures and Closer, are some of the most creative works to have been recorded in the past 50 years. they weren't the most famous band, but they left an indelible mark on music- unlike The Killers.

  • Bottom Line, You Do Have To Judge a band by the amount of hits they have. If you dont, then we're all just taking your opinion. The opinion of the largest group of people is what counts, not simply mine or yours. I have yet to meet a person that has even heard of joy division. Your condensed version of how perfect they are is useless since ive never heard of them or one song or album of theirs. The Killers are solid and they dont sound like any band out there whether you admit it or not.

  • And, since more people know of and like the Killers than jd, I'm concluding they are better than jd, regardless of frenchymarcell's single opinion. Also, The Killers Do have great style and you even admitted it a few posts up. Nothing wrong with dominating and looking Great

  • plus, the Killers covered this because a new movie coming out asked them to for the soundtrack. they didnt want to hear jd play this song, they wanted the Killers:)

  • i'm not going to argue on and on here or in any of the other replies, because i know logic and reasoning won't get through to a person of your mentality; i'll be direct. yes, i'm aware of that film, it's called Control, and it's about the life & death of Ian Curtis, Joy Division's lead singer. why Anton Corbijn asked them to record it baffles me. they COULDN'T get Joy Division to re-record it because they disbanded on May 18, 1980- the day that Curtis committed suicide. do your homework first.

  • if one person says a ridiculous thing, it's a ridiculous thing. if 17,403,154 people say a ridiculous thing, it's STILL a ridiculous thing. using your logic, Dude Where's My Car? is a better movie than Elevator to the Gallows- only because more people have heard of the first title. again, quality is what matters, not quantity.

  • lastly, you obviously don't know what is meant by "style over substance". it doesn't mean, "ooh look at how sexy Brandon Flowers is in that shirt"; it means HOW and WHAT they play. substance is the composition and structure of music, and how it's conveyed; style is just an easy way out, because they play flashy music that has no depth, music that appeals to people who don't know what to look for. and The Killers don't dominate. now go and tell me when you've discovered better music. bye.

  • Ian Curtis killed himself because he lived in constant physical pain due to his epilepsy and because his marriage was failing.

  • i'll use your logic: Paula Abdul is a great musician. what?! yes, that's right. why?! because she's had 6 number one hits, which as we all know, makes you a great artist, because a lot of people know about you. see, you make no sense; you think that the mainstream mob mentality is the only way to go. it's not. i suggest you stop hanging out with other people who listen to The Killers or Brand New, for there's actually better things out there if you make an effort and look for them. try it.

  • I dont do my homework on jd because the band is meaningless to me so why would i research them? Also, he obviously knew he was a failure if he killed himself, im sure he wouldnt have though if he saw the support you give him on youtube. Too bad this didn't come out before his suicide, you may have saved him.

  • I can go see the Killers in concert anytime i want and i will for years to come. Youll never be able to make out with ian because hes a idiot who killed himself. I really am sorry that you cant be his life partner now.

  • I'm going to ignore that because you probably have never heard of joy division songs, so shut up and go listen to your nonsense bands like fallout boy and Panic! The only reason this song sux is because the Killers are covering it.

  • YEAH!

  • Sound is awful, but thanks for this grest homage.

  • no one will ever come close to ian

  • fucking cuntrags, they ripped JD off. they should be kicked into a coffin.
