that IS the solo. its a big rock show so the crowd doesn't care if the solo is "in time" per se, he does that more when he is playing jazz gigs. this show was really revolved around steve so virgil was really just a side-man. you can see on the live DVD that virgil's solo is basically so vai can run backstage and change clothes.

I had the privilege of getting lessons with Virgil and just hanging with him back when he was living in Melbourne. I saw him a few years ago and he couldn't even remember my face. That's fame for you. Still......He is without a doubt one of the greatest drummers to ever walk this planet. Go Virg.
