Downtown Tampa? Nice place to visit, but wouldn't recommend anybody to go down there after 9:300 pm (mind, I'm not talking about Ybor city, just downtown Tampa); It can be dangerous. If you ask me, I would say anyone who wants to live in a quiet and safe environment will end up settling down on the other side of the Bay: St. Pete, Pinellas Park, Treasure Island, Madeira beach, Indian Shores, Largo, etc. Just my humble opinion, of course.
Houses are definitely better and criminality gets much lower the further north you go from downtown Tampa. But, as for Downtown, I don't now, maybe it has changed but when I lived there the amount of homeless people hanging around the downtown area was simply disturbing. Many of them would approach you in an aggressive fashion, particularly after dark. That's why I wouldn't recommend any outsider to go downtown after 9 or 10 pm. But again, it might have changed. Cheers!
@RabinoBoricuaVirtual Crime started to drop in 2009, but once in a while you still see some crazy outrageous stuff going on in this city. But Tampa is not the same way it was in 2007, things changed a lot crime-wise, and has changed for the better.
