If our fleet was destroyed 'over there' wouldn't all the missiles and weapons on board being destroyed hurt the surrounding countries? I'm not sure how missiles work exactly. Do they have to be 'detinated' in order to cause their purposed nuclear destruction, or would an explosion to them cause a chain reaction setting them off? Nuclear weapons must be detonated in a very specific way in order for them to cause a nuclear explosion. Simply blowing a nuclear weapon up will cause its nuclear material to explode and be spread around in the atmosphere - not a good thing, but hardly disastrous. In order for a thermonuclear explosion to occur, it requires intentional triggering of the device to cause a thermonuclear explosion.
