robngal* ur all sht mate nissan oridginal version was over 600 hp factory making it 1 of the fastest cars in the world in but they releast it detuned in 89 with only 330 hp so that it could enter the atcc and dtm they put even more restrictions on it in 92 after the 91 atcc
It's still a Japanese car, though. If, for example, a Commodore was racing in Japan and had been developed by a Japanese engineer, you wouldn't call it a Japanese car.
The other thing that needs to be mentioned is that Mark Skaife was responsible for developing the GT-R Nissan into the weapon it became...
So, contrary to popular opinion, the GTR was born out of Australian Mechanical and Engineering Expertise.... There was stuff all Japanese know how in this car...
Lets not start a nissan shitfight, im a Holden man but gotta give credit where credit was due. perhaps if the group C rules were retained the v8s could have had a chance but in group A rules GTR and Sierra were king.
The R32 was a fantastic car. Calling the V8s rubbish, though is pretty bad. after all, they were based on much heavier, larger, less manuverable cars.
Thing is these weren't even Nissan's biggest factory teams...Imagine the Calsonic team or STP Taisan coming in....
So were GTHO Falcons... I am a ford fan, but I also really like those old Toranos, XU-1s, SLRs etc and old GTS Monaros... Holden was also making race cars for the street until the Super Car scare in the early 70's.
Sad Years for Aussie Motorsport... I guess so if you like to watch slower cars... There are more in the world than just Falcons and Commodores...
the Gtr was the nissan australia foctory team. the 1st time the Gtr raced in the world was in australia, they poured millions into it . the japanese teams came to oz to collect data on how to set the Gtr up for racing in japan
Too much aye? that just goes to show how oh-so-much more superior the gt-r is over the v8s. The jappaz rule and shudnt be penalised and rubbished for being too good. they just needed to raise the standard of its competition :P
Yeah but u have to remember a lighter, more powerful, turbo charged and 4wd car is always going to win against a big heavy aussie v8! Unless of course your a mentally unbalanced race driver! It wasnt a level playing feild back then!
exactly. so why do i hear people still dare to say that the v8s were still better?? all i want to hear is an acknowledgement - to give credit where credit is due. nissan deserves it, but they more often get mocked for their success, which just shows the utter jealousy the competition had. and if you look at it honestly and objectively, the fastest tin top is never a falcodore. the gtr is leaps and bounds ahead of it, you have to admit.
yeah but i just dont like the GT-R, it was fast mainly cause there was a lot of money spent on it! Personally i saw it was too fake with its turbo charged engine which didnt show what the actual engine can achieve! People didnt like change and they still dont that's why they will always love their V8s!
so does that make all turbo charged engines 'fake'? thats just your opinion. keep in mind that they had half the size of the engine and down 2 cylinders on the v8, so why not have turbo power. its the future of technology. aussies just have only been brought up on their bogan v8 shit, and cant accept in their narrow minds that there are actually faster cars in the world than their ol' pushrod cast iron donks. and who doesnt have big budgets, lets not leave out those euro designed sierras!!
dude i dont care really! But i do understand why people don't like GT-R's, because they are shit to look at and they sound like a turd falling out of an horse's arse!
No mate, i believe you must be mistaking it for a ford sierra. THOSE things are shit to look at and sound like arse. they had been winning for nearly 4 years straight before the nissan gtr even started racing in aussie. so they should have been banned first. but no they wouldnt coz theyre fords. its only because a foreign manufacturer dominated, esp japanese, that made it all too hard to swallow. the gtr is a beast and sounds like one too. although i still love the sound of a v8 supercar...

As Larry said, they were not classed as Touring cars and should never have raced at Bathurst.
They are race cars built from factory for that purpose and it was a sad few years for Aussie motorsport.
