You are one of the best, but why( !!!) this #"¤%& reverb all the time ! I want to hear the amp ! A bit less talking, a bit more sound and far less fucking overloaden reverbm is my wish. I still do not know how this interesting anp sounds like !
Yeah. I need to go into the studio and redo a lot of these videos. It's a combination of the reverb and the room sound. The living room where we recorded this had a lot of slap-back echo and it just jumbled our sound. Sorry....
Paul Rivera did not design for Mesa. In '76 he started Rivera R&D. He would go on to consult for Yamaha and design for Fender starting in '81 with some higher gain versions of Fender's classic amps like the highly sought after 18 watt Super Champ, and others such as the the Concert, Twin II, Deluxe Reverb II and ss amps like the London Reverb, and others.
@dieandgoaway well the tube amp sounds alot better to my ears i have a vintage bugera tube and one of those spider line 6 and the tube amp sounds like real clean unlike the line 6 which sounds digital i cant explain but you should try one out
@dieandgoaway Tube amps ARE normal amps. But the main difference is simply put; the sound and the way the amp reacts to your playing. Tube amps are (widely) a lot more responsive to your playing, as well as producing a warmer, more organic tone. While solid state amps typically sound cold and stiff and have decidedly digital tone. Playing a tube amp pushes one to be a better player because they are so responsive that you hear all the nuances, so if you suck..everyone is gonna hear it.
Yours is not tube (they don't sell tube amps in guitar packs) The only thing you need to do to see if it is, is look in the back of the amp. If there are little glass bulbs in it, its tube. if the amp is completely closed up and you cant see anything, chances are its not tube.
@chownoob You can overheat them but it takes a lot to do it But they wont catch fire or anything. Tube amps take a certain amount of care that solid state amps dont need. But for the tone you get on a tube amp, its WELL worth the common sense it takes to upkeep them.
Amazing tone as always from a Rivera Amp! Rivera really took away the need for a Fender or Marshall amp. If you aren't getting good tone most likely user error, or maybe needs some new tubes. Will keep my Rivera's forever! Whats great right now is alot of players have forgotten about or don't know about Rivera, so there are lots of bargains out there to be had. John great chops keep up the great post!
Hey John, Great review...I recently purchased a Rivera 55-12 and love it. The range of sounds that I get using my 620 Ric is amazing. Anyway, again great review, and very nice playing!!!
im looking for a great tube amp for rock and roll crunch and good clean. maybe a metal sound. all for a good price. my friend suggested a marshall dsl 401. could someone help me out?
Hey falling, I've beenplying for about 25 yrs and have been through somany amps. A buddy of mine had the Rivera 55 12, and I loved his tone, so I went and bought one myself and have never looked back. That was back in 95 and I'm still gigging with it on a weekly basis. Also, the local guitar guys always comment on my tone.
if u have an amp set on the clean channel at full volume, and then u boost that. to be EVEN louder and a bit more distorted, can that damage the amp??
@eaureli that's a little harsh...i would hardly say it's terrible. john maybe you could demo the amp with one of your gibsons? what are the tubes it uses? 6v6? el34?
It's been 11 months and I'm still leaving the reverb in there. It's hard to produce these dam videos and at the time we did it the combination of the room and the reverb kind of boomed the sound out of control. The commentary however makes up for the shitty sound. And I'm playing the guitar quite well! Live with the reverb and there's less work. This stuff is all free so what's there to worry about? That's my take on it sorry.
this amp sounds amazing, but its kinda pricey... any recommendations for a tube sound on a budget? dont even mind if ts a cheaper amp w some sorta effects box, as long as the final sound is like what he's getting....ideas?
600 bux max? think i can get that tube sound with a Butler Tube Driver effects box and a roland cube 30? i really really like this amp's clean sound...
Single coil pickups and the lights in the room seem to effect the sound/buzz. We really haven't taken care of business on the audio side of our videos. Sorry...
I think I use the pick on the Major scale video to demonstrate the seven positions. I use a pick when I need to play fast runs in music that requires it. When I don't use a pick I can play chords more like a pianist than a guitarist whose always just strumming the guitar.
The preamp has the tone and volume controls and effects, like reverb, and the poweramp amplifies that. You send the signal from the little preamp to the big poweramp and that jacks or spikes up the volume level. Am I right out there? Anybody else with a comment? Thanks, John
Most all electric guitars have to be set up to make them playable. I like a low action and that helps for fast playing. Pick out any guitar and then take it to a pro shop for a set up........John
Epis are very nice beginning and intermediate guitars. Epis are best for the rock type sound. The Roland is a solid amp for the price, but if I were you, I'd dish out the extra 40 bucks and get a 30x. I have a 30x right now and I returned my 20 for a 30.
A friend sent me this late 70s neck from Australia and the rest of the guitar is custom USA parts. The body was made by the B. Hefner Co. and the finish by Steve Panell. I just sold it to one of my students for $1000 which is cheap considering I spent hours putting it together. However, I like this student and expect him to one day be a burning professional.....John

ok great! now two things:
1. There's a "bzzz" noise right from the the start that seems to be coming from the amp, so I was wondering what causes it?

2. Is it strong enough to deal with rehearsal with drum/ small gigs?
well thanks alot..awsome vids.
