Go look at the video of Miss Philippines 1999, Miriam Quiambao falling in the evening gown competition. It's on YouTube. Because she was fortunate enough to be competing in a civilized country (the US), where we do not kick someone, especially a lady, especially a guest, when they they are down, she received a standing ovation. She went on to become first runner-up. BTW, even if Rachel weren't in the top five, Miss Mexico was too far behind to make the top five.
yeah, don't get me wrong, i felt bad, i wouldnt hqave boode, but it was just an outrage for them, after all it IS a beauty pagent, that not only measures her features but also her grace, and that fall wasnt very graceful
She had been booed and heckled every time she showed her face in public for a month before that night; it took great courage for her to even appear on stage before that mob. The mental strain surely contributed to a loss of focus and hence the fall. Granted, the fall wasn't very graceful, but her rise was extraordinary. I challenge you to get up as quickly from that position, with no leverage, never mind the four-inch heels and the shock and pain of the fall.
Miss USA got the last laugh! You dishonered her, but our soccer team got her honor back. She was in the stands when we kicked Mexican ass for the Gold Cup. It's your national sport but you can't beat us.
