the Bay area was home to so many Chicano Latin and soul bands in the 60s and 70s . Azteca was from Oakland were i'm from . i love these old school bands i still cruise the Bay Bumping them. Malo Top Cold blood Santana Sapo Chepito areas andcAzteca as well. classic music.
I thought I knew what GREAT music was (in 1970), it took me several more years after Diana, Michael, Bette, and too many others to list. In 1975, I heard "Someday We'll Get By" by Azteca.
Even after surviving nearly drowning, multiple devastating car crashes, and being in a coma for 10 days...
Now in 2012, while surfing YouTube, I rediscover this group and song that has been stuck in my head. Then I saw who the original group members were! WOW!
This was THE "Feel Good" song back in the day! Musically moving, lyrical, real musicians with real instruments, uplifting and.... FUN! When did the music industry take a wrong turn down the path to the "all show, no go" poseur stars of today anyways? *sigh*. Ah well, this song and others like it will live on forever while today's "hits" will be footnotes in the annals of music history in a few DAYS! ;=)
@myroseaccount Yep. She performed recently (maybe a couple of years ago, '09?) at a benefit concert along with some of the other greats out of the Bay Area.... Lydia Pense, Sheila E., etc. She was honored as one of the notable "Women of Latin Rock" at that same event. Man, wish I'd known about it then.
I have been looking for Azteca on cd or whatever for a while now. I was and still am a fan of all those soulful bands from the Bay area...Tower of Power, Malo, Santana, Cold Blood...thanks so much for posting this...Viva la musica!
!wellshill : this tune is absolutely complete in every respect. It rises above the din of city living, to grooves on its own, needs nothing to make if better. Its the most memoriable of that era, remember Santana was king in the bay area, tower of power was there, hey man Escovedo que mas queres. Thanks for the upload. ACtually brings peace to my heart. Arriba con Azteca, Play again Pete.
