I really should stop posting before I finish watching a video.
This really captured the feeling of the last part of The End of Time. When the 9th Doctor died, I was sad that the character was leaving. But when the 10th died... it felt more like I was losing a friend to death than a tv character.
Was raised on Doctors 1, 2, 3 and 4. Tom Baker was my favourite, until #10 and David Tennant came along. Have to give kudos to Chris Eccleston's #9. though.
FYI: The term countertenor refers to the highest male voice. Many countertenor singers perform roles originally written for castrati in baroque operas.
@Gymnastix1710 you don't know who she was? Sarah Jane Smith? Does that name ring any bells? She was a companion on Doctor Who many years ago and last year she died of cancer while filming her own spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.
@thePaschalCandle yeah, but i really think that Latin should be pronounced like it was way back when. Ecclesiastical Latin sounds too much like Italian, and I think it should be unique.
Doctor Who needs Russell T Davies back. Remember episodes like Doomsday. The heartwrenching moment when both the Doctor and Rose are stood on opposite sides of the wall with their hands in the same places. Now that is good writing. Since David Tennant and the exit of Russell I haven't really seen any moments like that. Matt Smith is a brilliant actor, I just think he's being let down by the scripts placed in front of him. Here's to a new, more exciting and unpredictable series!
@AlexIdentity I wouldn't call him childish, more like goofy and definitely a screw loose in the brain pan if you get my meaning. I'm a Tennant lover, but Smith brings back that energy and severe quirk that puts people off centre. He's not human, has lived nearly a millenium, lost so so much, died many times and lost yet again with each regen...if he wasn't a complete nutcase by now I'd be worried.
@AlexIdentity I disagree with that, Tennant was fine but he became kinda whiney and manic towards the end, that is more childish than matt's goofyness in my opinion
@thekris1234 Um...The Doctor's Wife? The scene when the soul of the TARDIS has to leave the dying Idris and return to within the ship, with the Doctor tearfully asking her not to leave? And how about the 'Pandorica' speech in the penultimate episode of season 6? Seriously epic! I'm sorry but there is no way RTD is better than the Moff. RTD is great and all for bringing it back, but he came up with some utterly horrible stuff as well.
@TheSonicScrew I watched that episode yesterday. Didn't make me feel anywhere near as emotional as the David Tennant-Billie Piper Scene. The last episode of the last series was utter crap. It was meant to be a cliffhanger yet it wasn't. I was still expecting an episode the week after because nothing really happened and it doesn't leave me on the edge of my seat for the next series. That wouldn't happen with Russell.
@TheSonicScrew As a further argument I would say the Stephen Moffat has great potential but they're dumbing down Dr Who too much. I watched the modern episodes of Sherlock he wrote. If only he could bring that to Dr Who the show would be 100x better.
@thekris1234 Dumbing down?!?! Everyone else is saying it's getting far too complicated! I don't agree either way, personally, but that's the first time I've heard anyone accuse Moffat Who of *dumbing down*!
What I loved about DT's regeneration is that with regenerations of past it was always a surprise and so the new Doctor was the exciting part and thus the change usually quick; in modern days we know the regeneration is coming and who the new Doctor would be, so I think it was genius how they made the regeneration act itself the central stage and the focal point, it worked great. Also loved in this clip how the Royal Albert Hall glows orange during DT's dramatic regeneration, brilliant!!
I think the reason why the 10th Doctor's regeneration is so heartbreaking is the fact that he's completely alone at the time. The last few of David Tennant's episodes are the Doctor's loneliest, and I feel he's so scared of his death/regeneration because he has no one there for him. Entirely alone, save for a single Ood. It doesn't matter how many times I watch it, it always breaks my heart. "We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep."
@AngelofMusic2006 Spot on! I don't think anything in Doctor Who could top the emotion during Tennant's final episodes. It was great to see all of the Doctors in one montage, with 'This Is Gallifrey'. Whoever pieced this together is very talented.
OMG the cheers when the Ninth regenerates into the Tenth. Amazing, still. No longer the Doctor, but Tennant still gets the most screams...and the girl wiping tears at his regeneration. How cute =)
And one major thing is that even a lot of people haven't seen much of William and Patrick due to the age of their stories and most (with Patrick) being missing it is so great that each one of the past Docs gets a major cheer - the ones for Jon and Tom is as big as Davids 8-) ......
Vale Decem Ad aeternam Di meliora Ad aeternam Vale Decem Di meliora Beati Pacifici Vale Decem Alis grave Ad perpetuam memoriam Vale Decem Gratis tibi ago Ad aeternam Nunquam singularis Nunquam Dum spiro fido Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale Vale....
Outta all the clips shown, Pertwee got the loudest cheers from the Doctor Who fan of the old series and Tennant got most applauds, most girl screaming when his face was shown.
and unsuprisingly, the baker to mccoy transition got the least, cause quite honestly, it was poorly done, probably could have done with at least a bit more special effects to make it less obvious that it was just sylvester in a wig.
@FM5KR6F2007 david tennant will always be my doctor, it actually made me want to cry when he was regenerating and i knew hed never be back :( but i didn't ofc cause i remembered im a guy.. xD
@MindBreakMedia He MIGHT be back. You know, if the border between two parrellel worlds breaks down and Rose returns with the non-regenerating human doctor. Probably not next season but the 2012 season perhaps.
@MindBreakMedia The great thing about Doctor Who is that even when a Doctor "dies" there's always a chance he can make a return appearance. All of the past Doctors from 1-8 went on to reprise their roles on TV, radio and audio dramas (4-8 are still recording stories now). C.E. seems uninterested, but Tennant is a big enough fan we could see him again in a future reunion story, if things work out. I don't think he's gone forever as the Doctor.
This is the Doctor; my childhood, my home, my refuge from the world's pain.
