I heard this 1994 when I was 12-13 on an 80s compilation tape I'd gotten for some other songs. Even though its got that AOR pop/hard rock sound popular at the time, its definitely unique too.
When I've first heard the title to this song I actually thought it was gonna be a soft rock ballad, to my surprise it turns out to be a high energy driven rock 'n roller, great song and it deserves greater recognition than what it gets among 80s hits
so cool to hear this one again - ahh - takes me back to another time & place...good stuff. Never forgot it after all these years!! but i won't cry for the wasted years....cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears!!
One of my all time favorites! (Class of 1980!) Glad to hear and see it again! Love to still say...you ain't worth the salt in my tears! ~ Thanks for sharing.
Thank's to whomever posted this! I bought this on casset tape in 84. Played it until my tape deck ate it! Could not find it again, never heard anything else from him. Big Fan! Thanks Again!
Love this song. I remember when it came out. I was so young at the time. I always liked it though. Always wanted to break up with a girl and send her this
It was lost but great tune for ladies who cheat on their hubbies...I remember after she left me drained our bank account found her next victim, married him and there was 7 others. She was not worth the salt in my tears. Now, 25 years later she called me out of the blue, and asked, Am I worth the salt in your tears? After all those years I got a new lady, and stated to this BITCH, you are not worth the gizm in my left nut!!!!!!! That is the way I spell, relief, and adios!!!!
This was my fave song from '83... The year I graduated high school! Can remember blasting the radio while cruising w/ friends in my powder blue 1974 Ford Gran Torino. Those were the days!!
Time for a 14 year old chick to go on a rampage...........Ill start with,,,,WHAT IS WRONG WITH MUSIC TODAYYYY?!?!?!??!! Like realllly?! Selena gomez this morning on tv made my ears bleed. She sounded somewhat like a dying chicken...Autotune out the BIIIZZZUT. Its so anoooyinggg. People like Martin Briley are blessed with amazing voices. And then you have Drake and lil wayne who arent even singing just fastly annoyingly reciting poetry. Im saddned to turn on my radio because todays music SUCKS!
thanks for this where did the time go? been 25+ years since iheard this last. Anyone one remember cheapskates in Swansea Ma.? or Lincoln Park roller rink in Dartmouth Ma.? Now you know what i mean
Great song and fantastic video! Wow, I wish I'd been old enough to appreciate this song when it was actually popular. I'm rather disappointed in the music of my generation...
AOR was great all through the 80's. You could hear great songs like this along w/the B-side of the single. Back in the day AOR stations had a 40-50 daily song new music rotation or playlist. Then AOR waned & it has never been the same since it went on that downward spiral. 70's & 80's AOR was the best. Nothing even comes close to matching it. Thank you Martin for giving us a great song.
Great song from an overlooked and underappreciated artist. Brings back good memories from the best decade in my life and the best decade of all time, the 80's.
this song has always been a rocker... Better than a good ole "f**K You to any woman that thinks she may have broken your heart along the way... or any woman that thinks she is worth cying over... perfect.
Love the party scene in the middle when the secret stash of cash comes out of the fireplace!
These days it should be a stack of silver coins. Soon the unprepared females of the world will be throwing their hungry selves at those with precious metals when the dollar collapses.
Our band just started covering this song! It blew me away when one of the guys recommended we do it! So great to resurrect another awesome tune from the 80's!
Damn I miss the 80s. I am what 12 or 13 in my room playing air guitar on a tennis racket to this 45. I also miss the fact we had a real president then as well.
Oh this was my song with my first girlfriend. I love this song and the video. It was right when MTV just became popular. My 6th grade girlfriend and I used to sing this. In fact, I sang it to her on the phone. We just liked how it sounded. And, of course I know the Fat Boys! Pleeease. the human beat box died in 1995. I can't believe it. Chubby Checker and the Fat Boyz!!
I hear you, Destroyer! I just listened to a small sample of this song on a 80's One Hit Wonder compilation, and I had to find this song to hear it in entirety. This was a great song BITD!
Yep, being a teen in the 80's was second to none! A superb era for everything...
I loved this video and song when it first aired on MTV. The ex-wife and asian rebound girl really caught my attention but not so much as to make me miss the great song.
I loved "One Night With a Stranger" also. Played it till the tape wore out in high school, bought the album years later on ebay & burned it to a disc (I'll probably wear that out too!) Here's a fun trick: play any song off "One Night With a Stranger"- except "Salt in My Tears" which a lot of people know- to ANY Phil Collins fan and tell them it was one of his early unpublished recordings... the voices are identical!!! Try it with "Just Put Your Hand on the Screen", for example...)
"One Night With A Stranger" is a killer album. Every song is a gem. "Put Your Hands On The Screen" is my personal favorite. "Fear Of The Unknown" and "Dangerous Moments" are also excellent albums.

@buzzthruster he ll martin this is shawn from sask canada, for the time this album should of been huge , did the record company drop the ball in promotions? even the next album. im from the land of the unsung heroes where many bands went unnoticed.
Awesome!!! I so remember this back in about 1983 I believe it was. Reminds me of a few girlies that wronged me. One of my favorite songs of all time.
I can't believe I've never thought to check this out on youtube, as I've loved this song for years. Don't know why this didn't get more airplay, or why we never hear it a whole lot these days. Thankfully, K-SHE 95 in St. Louis introduced me to this great classic many years ago.
Yes, that's him. I'm not sure if he checks this anymore, but he first contacted me when he saw that I had posted two of his videos. He has new music out and wanted to share that, as well. - Deb
After I posted the comment below, I saw the link on the right side of this posting and found out the answer for myself. I have heard his voice many times and never recognized it. I still think he could have been an opening act if he had met the right people. God Bless you Martin. You are awesome!!
I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I was a senior in high school and I thought he would go alot farther than he did. Does anyone know what and where Martin is now?
what a great song. i if it wasn't 6 years older than me, it probably would have been one of my favorites. lol. seriously, though, it sounds like the 80's music from the computer version of the classic board game Life. i wonder...
i watched this on night tracks too! on friday nights-stayed up half the night to see duran duran and rick springfield too-we didnt have youtube back then~!
I concur - this is a great lost classic. The song was on the "Omigod!" 80's box set, but was basically the only song I didn't have already, so thankfully the box came out a couple of years ago. And how cool is it that Martin Briley posts comments in his own video? :)
Oh wow, so many great elements in one record: great vocals, awesome lyrics, great solo that makes the point without excess. Folks, power pop just doesn't get much better than this.
The lyrics just bite, don't they? This song is kind of a standard for me in that I'd love it if a lot of things I wrote would bite like this...and yet the song's not bitter. Wow, great rock and roll.
I heard this 1994 when I was 12-13 on an 80s compilation tape I'd gotten for some other songs. Even though its got that AOR pop/hard rock sound popular at the time, its definitely unique too.

Does anyone know what and where Martin is now?

what a great song. i if it wasn't 6 years older than me, it probably would have been one of my favorites. lol. seriously, though, it sounds like the 80's music from the computer version of the classic board game Life. i wonder...

I concur - this is a great lost classic. The song was on the "Omigod!" 80's box set, but was basically the only song I didn't have already, so thankfully the box came out a couple of years ago. And how cool is it that Martin Briley posts comments in his own video? :)

Awesome tune. Aged quite well. Light years better than the crap we have now. Rap, hip hop etc.

Best wishes for Mr. Briley...
