  • I heard this 1994 when I was 12-13 on an 80s compilation tape I'd gotten for some other songs. Even though its got that AOR pop/hard rock sound popular at the time, its definitely unique too.

  • Very sexy,Very hot Martin :)))) YUM!!

  • WOMEN!

  • takes me back to the wife that took my HARLEY

  • WHY CAN'T WE JUST GO BACK TO THE 80'S?

  • When I've first heard the title to this song I actually thought it was gonna be a soft rock ballad, to my surprise it turns out to be a high energy driven rock 'n roller, great song and it deserves greater recognition than what it gets among 80s hits

  • so cool to hear this one again - ahh - takes me back to another time & place...good stuff. Never forgot it after all these years!! but i won't cry for the wasted years....cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears!!

  • i have been trying to remember the name of the guy who sang this song since 1983.

    Thank you.

  • One of my all time favorites! (Class of 1980!) Glad to hear and see it again! Love to still say...you ain't worth the salt in my tears! ~ Thanks for sharing.

  • Love this song. I remember when it came out. I was so young at the time. I always liked it though. Always wanted to break up with a girl and send her this

  • It was lost but great tune for ladies who cheat on their hubbies...I remember after she left me drained our bank account found her next victim, married him and there was 7 others. She was not worth the salt in my tears. Now, 25 years later she called me out of the blue, and asked, Am I worth the salt in your tears? After all those years I got a new lady, and stated to this BITCH, you are not worth the gizm in my left nut!!!!!!! That is the way I spell, relief, and adios!!!!

  • I wish te 80's would have never ended, these type of good songs bring back the good teenage years I had, thanks Martin!

  • Awesome song..Makes you wanna go back!!

  • Classic 80s! LUV IT MAN!!

  • AOR was great all through the 80's. You could hear great songs like this along w/the B-side of the single. Back in the day AOR stations had a 40-50 daily song new music rotation or playlist. Then AOR waned & it has never been the same since it went on that downward spiral. 70's & 80's AOR was the best. Nothing even comes close to matching it. Thank you Martin for giving us a great song.

  • THIS WAS A GREAT SONG MARTIN!WE NEED MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS IN TODAY"S MAINSTREAM CRAP!

  • kinda reminds me of an ex- girlfriend! took my waterbed when i wasnt lookin!!!!! fucking bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome song though!!!!

  • AWESOME tuneage!!!!!!!

  • I haven't seen or heard this for years. Love it!!

  • I haven't seen or heard this for years. Love it!!

  • Love the party scene in the middle when the secret stash of cash comes out of the fireplace!

These days it should be a stack of silver coins. Soon the unprepared females of the world will be throwing their hungry selves at those with precious metals when the dollar collapses.

  • Wow, this really takes me back. Great song, especially for men going their own way. Remember, brothers...every woman's got one.

  • Damn I miss the 80s. I am what 12 or 13 in my room playing air guitar on a tennis racket to this 45. I also miss the fact we had a real president then as well.

In fact, I sang it to her on the phone. We just liked how it sounded. And, of course I know the Fat Boys! Pleeease. the human beat box died in 1995. I can't believe it. Chubby Checker and the Fat Boyz!!

  • I think I dated that bitch... Martin's right.

  • this is one of the many great songs from the 80's

  • great clothes. just because you wear a beret, doesn't mean you're bald. look at bob welch. oh wait, he's bald. but he's BAD!!!

  • Great riff and hysterical video that stands the test of time.

They don't make music and video like this anymore. So happy to have grown up in the 80s!

  • I hear you, Destroyer! I just listened to a small sample of this song on a 80's One Hit Wonder compilation, and I had to find this song to hear it in entirety. This was a great song BITD!

Yep, being a teen in the 80's was second to none! A superb era for everything...

  • Wow, great song!! From waaaaaay back when MTV actually played music.

  • I loved this video and song when it first aired on MTV. The ex-wife and asian rebound girl really caught my attention but not so much as to make me miss the great song.

  • One of my fav songs. Would this be a good one for Kid Rock to do a version?

  • Great song from back in the day, Thanks for posting!

  • his voice reminds me of Phil Collins

  • I remember when this was in rotation on MTV ...You know, back when MTV played videos?..Yeah,

  • Always loved the guitar work in this song. I didn't realize it came out in 83. I would have thought it came out a few years later.

  • One of the all-time GREAT break-up songs...and a DAMN GOOD song from a DAMN GOOD album (yup, I said album)!!!!

  • i remember this from 1983 or so. Underrated song by an underrated artist. He sounds amazingly like Phil Collins.

  • I loved "One Night With a Stranger" also. Played it till the tape wore out in high school, bought the album years later on ebay & burned it to a disc (I'll probably wear that out too!) Here's a fun trick: play any song off "One Night With a Stranger"- except "Salt in My Tears" which a lot of people know- to ANY Phil Collins fan and tell them it was one of his early unpublished recordings... the voices are identical!!! Try it with "Just Put Your Hand on the Screen", for example...)

  • I love , love, love , this song!! Does any one else think this guy looks like Rick Springfield?

  • Oscarlabella I think he looks more like Robert Klein.

  • wow, i have not heard this song since 1993.

  • The best way of saying, "You ain't SH**!!"

  • fabulous..I have the LP...

  • "One Night With A Stranger" is a killer album. Every song is a gem. "Put Your Hands On The Screen" is my personal favorite. "Fear Of The Unknown" and "Dangerous Moments" are also excellent albums.

  • this tune is on my short list of best rock songs ever made!!

  • Frickin good old days......

  • dude does look like comedian robert klein .

  • Why am I thinking about Comedian Robert Klein and musician Donny Iris right now?

  • hey, krelbar bitter much? way to keep the spirit of rock'n'roll alive...btw LUV the new knotty pine panels you've put up in your basement digs...again i'm sorry for walking in on the coalmining, happyhappyhappyening (great turn of phrase) but don't tell emeril...

  • Its funny, it seems that the non sucessful musicians in their 20's in the 70's became one hit wonders in the 80's

    Martin Briley

    Kim Mitchell

    Dwight Twilley...

  • man, i haven't heard this song in years!!! so happy to have found it here. great breakup song, isn't it??? fuck 'em.

  • Great 80's song.!!!! I miss those days..LOL!!!! Great post!!!

  • I'm glad YouTube's playing this because no one else around Philly is. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't heard much of Ian's solo stuff for a long time here either, just the same 500 songs on the moldy oldie, ahem, classic rock station at work(including you-know-what by Bowie).

  • I still have this Album too. One of my favs from the 80's. Good to know that it's on iTunes.

  • Fuck man I had this album when I was a little shit! Loved it! SK CdN Still have it on vynal. peace!

  • Heard this song on XM tonight for the first time in 20 years - and I remembered the lyrics. How? Because it was the song I played constantly though my divorce back in '86! Great to hear this song again - iTunes here I come!

  • Awesome. I currently have to drive 90 minutes home from work, in the middle of the night, and I was rocking out to this on the highway!

  • hey martin my dad and i love your stuff

    Martin

  • You should be multi-generational Martin. Your music is timeless. You have helped many through tough times, and inspired many more. God BlessYou!!

  • Dude you rock! I love this song! It was awesome then and is now. I hope you have made a ton of money off it you deserve it!

  • Hi, this is Martin Briley.

I'm pleased to announce that Universal has at last made "Salt In My Tears: The Complete Mercury Masters" available on iTunes!!

This includes 'Salt In My Tears' and ALL the songs from 'Fear of the Unknown', 'One Night With a Stranger' and 'Dangerous Moments', and a few embarrassing demos too.

  • In the wasteland of 80's music, this song stands out as a true gem. Great jam.

  • yea.h,wife just split on me...this tune helps

  • Awesome!!! I so remember this back in about 1983 I believe it was. Reminds me of a few girlies that wronged me. One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • I can't believe I've never thought to check this out on youtube, as I've loved this song for years. Don't know why this didn't get more airplay, or why we never hear it a whole lot these days. Thankfully, K-SHE 95 in St. Louis introduced me to this great classic many years ago.

  • I saw this video at Six Flags over Mid-America back in the early 80's and it stuck w/ me for a long time. Go STL Real Rock Radio

  • thank you debwong, what a cool video, brings back some great memories awesome song very over looked player rock on martin briley

  • supposedly he made a some comments on here and his youtube name is buzzthruster.

  • Yes, that's him. I'm not sure if he checks this anymore, but he first contacted me when he saw that I had posted two of his videos. He has new music out and wanted to share that, as well. - Deb

  • After I posted the comment below, I saw the link on the right side of this posting and found out the answer for myself. I have heard his voice many times and never recognized it. I still think he could have been an opening act if he had met the right people. God Bless you Martin. You are awesome!!

  • I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I was a senior in high school and I thought he would go alot farther than he did. Does anyone know what and where Martin is now?

  • WOW! This hit memory lane,..Aurora Colorado Juvenile..lock down..lol

  • this song came out when i was 2 yo im so greatful for youtbe so i can see the best music and music vidios of all times long live the 1980s

  • i have always loved this song .. first came out when i just graduated in 1984

  • what a great song. i if it wasn't 6 years older than me, it probably would have been one of my favorites. lol. seriously, though, it sounds like the 80's music from the computer version of the classic board game Life. i wonder...

  • i watched this on night tracks too! on friday nights-stayed up half the night to see duran duran and rick springfield too-we didnt have youtube back then~!

  • One of my favorites. Thank you for posting.

  • shame this classic only peaked at #36 in July of 1983

  • still a great song after all these years.

  • This one is for all the (EX's) out there!

  • Definitely a lost 80's classic!

  • absolutely one of my all time fave songs. i'm so happy i ran across this vid! thanks so much for posting it!

  • oh my GOD! i haven't heard this song in like 20 years. i never knew they had a video for it.

    Such a great tune!

    God, Youtube is the best!

  • I concur - this is a great lost classic. The song was on the "Omigod!" 80's box set, but was basically the only song I didn't have already, so thankfully the box came out a couple of years ago. And how cool is it that Martin Briley posts comments in his own video? :)

  • Awesome tune. Aged quite well. Light years better than the crap we have now. Rap, hip hop etc.

  • Oh wow, so many great elements in one record: great vocals, awesome lyrics, great solo that makes the point without excess. Folks, power pop just doesn't get much better than this.

The lyrics just bite, don't they? This song is kind of a standard for me in that I'd love it if a lot of things I wrote would bite like this...and yet the song's not bitter. Wow, great rock and roll.

    Best wishes for Mr. Briley...

  • Great song and video. Thanks for posting!
