Faldo Woods hype at British Open

This was all a gigantic fuss about nothing, but what does make me laugh is that the media singled out Faldo for his comments at the 2005 Buick Invitational. In case they didn't notice, Faldo critqued Tiger's swing at several subsequent tournaments - as is his right and opinion. In fact, he was at it again at the final Western Open 10 days before Hoylake! Media, when you're attempting to generate a hot-air story, at least stay a bit more current events with it. :-/

i think tiger and michael jordan share a common problem: in the process of dominating their sport, they unnecessarily created this attitude in themselves that just makes absolutely everybody out to be an enemy/obstacle. then they just play it down as being 'competitive' and 'that's what it takes to win'. tiger has this chip on his shoulder he needs to realize isn't even there. it's one thing to be competitive, but it's another thing to be vindictive, grudge-bearing and hateful.

At least Faldo can joke around once and a while. Tiger is so arrogant that if he had any ounce of personality he would make half jokes aimed at his asshole caddie by saying that his caddie was an asshole in front of golf fans. Rather than spewing stupid "I played terrrible today" lines, while he was at Augusta, during the Masters, when he should be appreciative that he was able to play in the tournament, like everyone else seems to be when they finish playing Augusta National.

I love Nick Faldo. I idolized him. I still do. He is a great commentator and is never afraid to poke fun at himself. I even went as far as picking up a set of Mizuno MP 29's and a ping b60 putter. That is how much I like him. I always wondered why people didn't like Faldo but they liked Norman. Norman and Woods are jerks. Now, I would think that playing golf with Tiger would be like being alone. But, I did meet Faldo at Torrey Pines in '96 and he signed a ball for me. That rules.

Faldo is a classical player (a modern day Harry Vardon) who strategically played the course whereas Woods is pure power like Greg Norman (but with more mental strength than the shark).

You also have to take away the technology as today's clubs are space age against what was available in the late 80's & early 90's.

Faldo shot -18 to win at St Andrews with steel shafts, two piece balls & woodern drivers. Woods shot -19 with graffite shafts & jumbo drivers etc

He did give a smerk after he hit that shot, as to say mmmhm good miss, but as all good golfers do, they never blame themselves for more than a split second because if you dwell on any shot for longer than that, you will fail on any tour. I "fanned" it, yes. Its clear the club got stuck and he held on to not hit a duck hook in the water.

In a way Faldo's initial commentary was actually fairly flattering. The tone of his voice was pure disbelief that he'd mis hit, meaning he knows that's a one in a million shot and Tiger has a generally fantastic swing.

theirs putting is super good, which makes them a tour player. to be in the tour, you need to have a putter that the guys you play with just want to snap it for you!!

we all hit greens, as much as they do, or more and less.closer shots etc.

they call a 15foot shot from 150 yards a pretty good shot, some of the greens people play on are much smaller when you hit one 15 foot away form the hole you are talking about being at the other side of the green. The big tour putting surfaces are huge

Nice video but this feud was overhyped. In any case both men are legends and a credit to golf. Tigers record obviously speaks for itself and Nick Faldo was the top golfer in the late 80s and early 90s and is one of the few UK sportsmen not to choke when the pressure is on.

Nick Faldo is a prick, he is known for that. Tiger is in the zone doing what he does best, winning majors. Ive seen other videos of Tiger out of tournaments and he looks like a totally sound guy.
