At the last concert of his that I attended, I expected Mr. Newman to close with "Lonely At the Top," as he is inclined to do. To my date's and my delight, he closed with this instead. Long after you and I have left this earth, this song will remain. To humanity's credit.
Something in your eyes makes me wanna lose myself makes me wanna lose myself in your arms. Theres something in your voice makes my heart beat fast hope this feeling lasts the rest of my life. If you knew how lonely my life has been and how long I've been so alone and if you knew how I wanted someone to come along and change my life the way you've done.
Ever notice how even though he doesn't specify who he's talking about, it feels not only like a love relationship, but it also feels like two best friends or two brothers?
@The1BigJosh it's comments like this-about incredible music as amazing as randy's-that makes me think there's still people who can appreciate songs that make you cry, or at least make you feel.
so thank you, and thanks randy. for this and for toy story i shall love you forever
This is magnificent. I don't listen to him that much, but this really knocked me out; this album (showing my age now) appears to have been buried under the mountain of stuff that 'hit' machines churn out.
As a Kid, I always felt like I was out of step with the world, and that there was no music that I could relate to. Then, one day, I heard "Sigmund Frued's Impression Of Albert Einstein In America", and my lfie changed. Now, I just can't stop crying when i hear this song, and Losing You and of course, I'll Be Home. These sonsg amde me who I am. Thankyou Randy, and may God and Abaraham smile down on you.
Once again Randy strikes deep into the heart & show us the beauty & sadness there...what a beautiful song...there is no one like Randy Newman, there are few artists who can touch the soul like him. Thanks Randy
Such a good and soulful song - such a relief to find songs like this again - especially nowadays with all the drivel that's being played! Well done Randy - great voice and great song! Pure soul!

Bonnie Rait does a good job at this song, so does Linda Ronstadt. But this is almost unreal, this song is so simply put. It transcends, it is pure.

Great song.
The irony is that the song is directed to the devil in the musical faust.

I've got this covered by Ronstadt, Raitt, Malo...one of my favorite songs ever.
Nice to hear it from the master himself.
