  • @51 just kissing the rev limiter lol trying to make it hard for the cheeky little rice rocket i wonder what the weight difference between the GTR SIERRA and the COMMODORE was like ?

all the talk of power doesn't mean much if you don't have to push it along lmao

  • Thumbs up if Glen Seaton made this video epic for you

  • I wish it had have stayed like this, we probably would have seen some very impressive advancements to the Australian V8 to keep up with the turbo 4's

  • its funny how people glorify the turbo GTRs as a supercar. anyone can bolt 2 turbochargers to an RB26 and expect it to make 600hp+ and go as fast as it does. i don't dislike the gtr let alone hate it but its not the supercar everyone makes it out to be.

  • @Arbiter2005 LOL riceburners, its called technology mate. You say ffs, I say how sad that Holden and Ford have only managed to use DOHC engines in their "family size" cars in the last couple of years. Way to keep up with the rest of the world HAHA. Rice burners or not, they were far superior to their competition, hence why the made the championship the "V8 supercars" to exclude all the makes and models that made them look bad. Didn't Brock and Johnson race Siera's? They liked to be competitive.

  • @Superdudemann you're full of shit mate. saying jap cars are better than aussie cars is like saying a top fuel dragster is better than an F1 car. in case you didn't notice b4, THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CARS.

  • @Superdudemann oh yeah, and brock didn't last very long in the sierra did he? he loved holdens too much!

  • @Superdudemann Hello Sir, i do not mind having a few different makes and different engine setups in roadcar based categories, but most of the front runners should run together, and when it came to group a it was badly lopsided in favour of the turbo cars.

It's not about technology, it was about the regs of that category that u were allowed to turn the turbo right up to it's max and get a heap of power but if u had an NA car, u had to make do with the production cyl head.

  • @Superdudemann And in a big engined car like the Commodore it was a huge handicap. The Holden's now, in the V8 series still run a similar setup with a 5 litre engine and the big high ram 8V fuel injection system, but run a more heavily modified cyl head design which produces a good 100hp more. Just compare the Bathurst lap times, the best lap the GTR and Sierra ran was a 2:12. the V8 Supercars are 6 secs faster and on a long track like Bathurst that's a big difference. Technology? No, Tuning!!!

  • The sound of the engine is sweet.

  • I love how when Brock or Skaife pisses off into the distance and owns the race from lap one to the checkered flag, even making all the other Holdens look ordinary, that's just the way it's supposed to be.

But when a Nissan Skyline GTR or Cosworth-Sierra pisses off into the distance and owns the race from lap one to the checker, it's cheating.

  • looks like he's double-clutching on the 5th - 4th and the 3rd - 2nd downchanges.

  • @gav240z - I'm all for N/A engines too, but a 6 was turbo'd in production to keep up with the torque and horsepower of a V8. But let's face it, whatever you do to a 6 you can do an 8. A V8 will always be 1 step ahead of a straight 6 or V6. There's no replacement for displacement! So fair's fair? Turbo a 6, turbo an 8? Bye bye Nissan up Mountain Straight and bye bye Nissan down Conrod....

  • I like it when people who dont know much rubbish the old Holden V8s in touring car racing, and how the turbos dominated balh blah.. Back in the day, the Gibson Motorsport Skyline GTR's cost $600,000 each. In early 90's money. ( it would be like current V8Supercars costing 1.5 million now...)The titanium turbochargers alone were $15,000 each. By comparison, the humble Group A Commodores were more like $100,000 each. And minus all wheel drive, etc. May as well compare apples to watermelons..

  • @triciagalinahardy09 - When are people going to realise turbo-chargers aren't cheating? I mean I'm all for N/A engines but an internal combustion engine is not very efficient most of the energy is lost to heat. A turbo charger just captures that heat energy and turns it into more energy.

This was production car racing and the V8 never came with a blower so that's why it didn't have 1.

  • not bad for the VN commodore it wasnt that slow compared to the Ford and nissans down conrod straight

  • HAHAHA SETON :D

  • I've said it before, but I'm in love with the sound of the Holden 5.0litre V8

  • Thats when racecars were racecars and the men that drove them drove by feel. No computers to rely on for adjustments. Bring back proper touring car racing. Bring back sprint racing. Bring back the excitement of the 70's, 80's and 90's!

  • @BINMOED What about Brockies "energy polerizer" haha, but yeah I see what your saying. :)

  • and just listen to that awesome V8, and then Glen Seaton flies past in a 4 banger haha and the Nissan GTR disappears into the distance.

  • The best race, the best cars, the best drivers

  • Any other links like this, in car views?

  • Sounds tough

  • When i had my Cosworth, i used to love this race. Took me a while but i got all from 87 to 92 when the skylines took over.

I miss those days, thats when men could drive angry

  • kick ass commo! sounds alot better than those ricers!! the cossy is sweet tho screw the skyline every wog and his dog has one HOLDEN POWER

  • @SuperTamponBandit

What and no one has a Commodore!

  • @BarnettMotorsport BS why do i see them on the roads ass wipe

  • A small outpost of GM competing against international makers, and still you pericks have to bag it.

Sell outs to the white race i tell ya.

The skyline shouldnt have been allowed to compete anyway, cheating ricer.

  • anyone know of anymore in car stuff from this race...those VN commodores were tuff as nails!!

  • turbo schmurbo, the only car capable of competing against them was a car driven by Brocky.

  • Hahahahahah 4 cylinder kickin arse in straight line. Vauxhalls cana corner worth a damn either.

  • its slow? hahaha, the VN Group A roadcar was one of the worlds fastest sedans. 5th gear would take it to 250km/h with still another gear to go, in porsche territory!

put the VN group A roadcar up against the R32 GTR roadcar in a 1/4 mile drag race and the VN Group A would tear it apart!

  • @2GoRightGoHolden hahahahahahah

  • @2GoRightGoHolden a true holden follower !!

  • it amazes me how poeple say the VN Group A commodore was a dinosaur compared to the godzilla. well, a dinosaur finished 2nd in this race. it didn't win, but it did very very well for a car which only made 500hp (godzilla made 600+) and was much heavier than the godzilla.

i don't give a shit if the godzilla was the most popular supercar in the world. im still gonna buy a holden with a 5ltr in it because they're australian, and im australian!

  • that sound made my hair stand up YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

  • jesus that v8 sounds spectacular

  • i reckon it would be interesting to bring the turbos back, new v8 technology might give em a run

  • HAHA GOOD ON YA GLEN!!! :D

  • 'just listen to that awesome v8' while it's being crapped on my a 2 litre turbo! :D

  • @bobba84 Yeah running 40psi of boost:P

  • @Jasonsadventures try 14, although it would take 40 before yours beat mine!

  • @bobba84 The cosworth was running 40 psi in some teams. The GTR was running at least 26 and probably more like 30 psi. 14 psi in either of those engines doesn't make enough power to be good for anything, the VN would have been considerably quicker if they had of been running a low boost like that

  • @Jasonsadventures RUBBISH!

  • @bobba84 Care to elaborate :)? or are you in denial of the truth :p

  • @Jasonsadventures 14psi in an RB26, is enough to blow almost all holdens off the road! need i elaborate more or shall i save you from embarrasment?

  • @bobba84 N/A MOTOR NOT TURBOCHARGED U HALF WIT

  • @FlameThrash900 No shit! I said it was being SHAT ON by a 2 litre turbo! (FORD SIERRA TURBO) dillhole.

  • The V8's sounded great and everybody loved them but they were slow compared to the Sierra's and Skylines...

  • THAT SOUND IS JUST HEAVEN.

  • That is just so good. I remember it like last week. Good ol Aussie HOLDEN V8 hammering those shopping trolleys. Another good one was Brocky at Sandown, Mark Gibbs in the GTR, (think it was the same yr) Brocky got Gibbs but a brake pin broke, which let him down for the 10th win of Sandown. Just a True Legend.

  • @Brocky1969

Yeah one hell of a shopping trolley to blow the doors of the "Aussie" (GM) Holden V8 down Conrod. Poor Brocky couldn't keep up.
