  • Military calling shots with big oil, imo. Big oil closing 3 PA refineries reducing US east coast refining capacity by over 50% by 7.2012. A major EC supplier in St Crox (495k bpd) closing. Rationing without calling it rationing. There will be no economic recovery.

  • Of course Military on top of peak oil given that oil is life blood of military. Military calling the shots with big oil, imo. Big oil closing 3 PA refineries reducing US east coast refining capacity by over 50% as of July 2012. Plus a major EC supplier in St Crox (495k bpd) closing. Rationing without calling it rationing. There will be no economic recovery. There might be a world war for oil resources.

  • if we have 944 billion barrels left, and our net consumption is 84,000,000 - 7,300,000 = 76,700,000 barrels/day consumed, then we have 944,000,000,000 / 76,700,000 = 12,307 days or about 34 years left before all oil is gone. But that's not even the point. It could be 20 years or 50 years. The point is that way before we even reach the last drop, the price will be so high that you won't be able to order your new Kindle from amazon cuz the darn shipping's so expensive. Get my point?

  • @warranyu Oil price is now about $100 barrel (even in this recession). It looks like the price of oil will continue to increase as the world continues to burn oil

  • @warranyu Your calculation of 34 years assumes no population growth, or growth in automobile sales due to China and India's economies coming on board. Once you factor in his massive growth, oil may last only 20 years. We need to get off of oil in order to recover.

  • Oh, and the other thing about rates, take your total amount of oil that we have found to date, divide that by let's say a million years. That gives you the rate at which nature creates oil, on average. We've used up about 944 billion barrels. Say that's half of all the oil in the world. That gives a total of approximately 20 billion barrels. (20*10^9 barrels / 10^6 years) * (365 days/year) = 7,300,000 barrels/day produced by nature.Compare that to around 84,000,000 barrels/day consumed worldwide

  • @dlucas90 Yes, you are right. Oil is renewable.... If you want to wait for a couple hundred thousand years for the process that you're referring to to turn organic matter into crude oil, I suppose we can do that. Oh by the way, do you have any suggestions as to what we'll use in the meanwhile?

  • fossil fuels are a finite source! why cant the zombies in this country get it???!

  • How can I trust "science" that comes from a govt. that loves to legalize its own crimes and protect monopolies like the oil industry? How can I trust "science" that comes from the oil industry that will increase profits while reducing production if they get away with claiming their product is running out?

In order for a well ot any sort to run dry, oil or water, it must be emptied faster than it can replenish itself. Am I to believe the process that created the oil reserves has stopped?

  • @dlucas90 If a dog only has a gallon of blood in its body, does that mean that durring its lifetime ticks, fleas and mosquetoes can only suck out a total of one gallon of blood before killing the dog?

I realize that the oil in oil reserves takes millions of years to produce, but does that mean the process isn't continueing. Like a water well that has water in it that takes millions of years to get to a water basin, it doesn't mean that you can emptiy it faster than it is replenishing itself.

  • @dlucas90 These charts say nothing about the rate at which a oil reserve replenishes itself, which is fishy. Also, if it is true that we have used more than half the world's petrolium, would the global warming crowd please shut the fuck up?

The one thing in common with the "global warming crowd" and the "petrolium is running out crowd" is a supposed need for "global governance" due to "overpopulation", but you will notice that they never dare say this. Why, beat around the bush? Hmmmm.

  • @dlucas90 Global warming: We still have a lot of dirty coal to burn (you can't burn coal with cars or planes). Coal puts even more carbon in the atmosphere than burning oil. BTW - the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been steadily rising. Also, more CO2 is being dissolved in the oceans

  • @Ralphdraw3 When water warms it can't hold disolved gases as well as cold water. If the climate gets warmer due to the sun Co2 will come out of the ocean.

Water vapor is a far more powerful and abundant greenhouse gas than Co2, what do you suggest we do about water vapor?

  • @dlucas90 As the average temperature of the earth goes up, the more water evaporation will occur and the more water vapor the atmosphere will hold. This is called a positive feedback loop. The best thing to do would be to cut back on all greenhouse gases CO2, methane and a few others that mankind pumps into the atmosphere.

  • @dlucas90 Oil does not "replenish" itself - that's why they call oil a "non-renewable" resource. Try using some basic science and chemistry.

  • @Ralphdraw3 When did the process that created the petrolium stop and why did it stop?

  • @dlucas90 I suggest you look up "non-renewable resource - oil" on Google and find out for yourself.

  • Wait a minute, this man knows what even Big Oil itself does not know? Carnac the Magnificent, I did not know that you were serving in Congress, OMG!! An actual, honest to goodness fortune teller and sooth sayer. Isn't he the same guy that said the world would end back in May?

  • @PalemoonSun No, this Congressman is merely quoting the work of geologists - mainly Marion Hubbert and other scientists at the E.I.A. and the I.E.A.. BTW Hubbert's prediction from the 1950's turned out to be corret - peak oil for the US was in 1970.

  • @Ralphdraw3 So scientists are infallible and irrefutable when they agree with your point of view, but they are not reliable and are liars when it comes to things like global warming? WTF?

By the way, as far as the peak oil comment... if that is true then why are so many people wanting the government to drill? According to your statement, everything that can be drilled has been, and there is no more oil anywhere else to be found in the US. So which is it?

  • @PalemoonSun I said that Hubbert ( the scientist not a politician) was correct in his peak oil prediction for the United States. He predicted in the 1950's that the US would reach peak oil in the early 1970,s - he was right. There are still areas to drill - it's just that these areas are much more expensive and remote - like two miles under the ocean or in the Arctic.

  • @Ralphdraw3 You do realize, peak oil production means just that. Production will drop until we eventually run out. Yet, there you are saying we can still drill our way out of that. ;-)

  • @mhstz I think they are refering to "tar sands" oil - which is low quality sludge/oil. It is hard to transport and hard to refine

  • @mhstz interesting comment

  • That's true. We have been living on the cheap for some time. We might have to return to a simpler time when there was no flight and ships might need to return to using the wind in their sails. We might see horse drawn vehicles again. People will need to live near where they work, etc. It won't be easy but we will survive, and in the meantime maybe there will be an incentive to develop something else, like fusion. I think nuclear is way too dangerous unless they can make it 100% failsafe.

  • It's not the end of the world, (at least from that cause). Human kind will adapt and overcome as always. You can't count on government for anything because that is the nature of the beast, and Ron Paul understands that. Alternate forms of energy will emerge when it reaches the point of being profitable. As oil becomes less available it's price will steadily rise. When it hits 8 bucks a gallon many alternate technologies will suddenly become economically viable.

  • @UtwoBed As of today, there is no cheap and energy rich substitute for oil. Electricity to power vehicles is more expensive and has several drawbacks. An electrically powered aircraft has not even been attempted. Europe and Japan know what it's like to have no oil reserves - France and Japan have gone for nuclear power (with its own set of problems).

  • Oil decline = Human decline. Nothing in the physical universe grows forever, not even economys. Oil does not grow underground like ALEX JONES would have you believe. It's 1st grade math. Rep.Bartlett has balls. He's the only only in D.C. that does. When does Ron Paul talk about oil decline? Its to late for a transition. It takes @ 20 years and there is no political will or capital to do it. Plant a garden.

    LIGHTS OUT America! ! !

  • and he is right....the oil cartel is in collusion with one another..what moron does NOT know that fact. I guess too many folks watching american idol. sad state of affairs the sleeping fools are in!!!!!

  • Old man needs to speak into the microphone!

  • We never hear about our exclusive usage technology as anything but useful. In fact it's super heat chucking and designed to be that way. Central power delivery is specifically disigned and enforced as super heat chucking tech. It means no one ever attempts or even thinks about trying to use the fuel well since it's cultivated dishonesty and assumed the heat that is thrown away must be thrown away, It takes "suit jobs in collusion" to want to lie that big for money. It hurts everyone.

  • Ya ya ya, they said the same bs back in the 70s.
