This guy perfectly voices my opinion. Apple and google are run by humans yet they perform so well in delivering updates. Why cant the humans at microsoft perform like those at apple and google? why?? Mind you, Microsoft is not some basement company...its Microsoft!! and it just fazes me that they have difficulty competing in the mobile market..
iOS copy/paste = 2 years. WP7 copy/paste = 5 months. iOS multitasking = 3 years. WP7 multitasking = 1 year. iOS CDMA support = 4 years. WP7 CDMA support = 5 months. How can this guy trash MS and compliment Apple? If Microsoft is moving slow then what was Apple doing?
People are being impatient. WP7's been out ~4 months and people expect every update that iOS has over 4 years within the first few months. How about kudos to MS for getting to 10K apps faster than iOS and 1/3 time of Android?
@cool8man during IOS's years of evolution, there were no viable competitors.Android was crap, symbian was crap, wm was crap as well as bb so apple had the convenience because there was no fierce competition. However things have changed now. There are two giant competitors of WP7 that offer everything WP7doesnt and more..even more. In order for WP7 to compete, it has to match these two giants if not the OS will always be behind. Furthermore because apple took that long does not mean ms should too
@cool8man Actually we just expect ANY update. Like the "January" update that's now 3 months late. During those first 2 years Apple constantly released updates, and were therefore moving. Microsoft is yet to release a single update which is my definition of "slow".
Neither Paul nor many other commentators or users (including myself) fault Microsoft for building a great platform. I honestly & sincerely congratulate them. They're dropping the ball now though, in a big way.
@cool8man This issue is that Windows Phone is looking to be a repeat of the Zune, a well designed device that doesn't sell. Here the PERCEPTION matters, not the reality--perception drives sales. Who's going to want to buy a Windows Phone (besides the enthusiasts, which aren't enough to help it to succees)? Microsoft needs to make it both be and STAY exciting. A lack of updates harms the products image.
We understand your issue. But the problem is that WP7 was released now, not 3 years ago. If you buy a car today , you expect it to have todays features not features from a 3 year old competitor. Ye it took apple that long to include those things you mentioned. But put it this way, in the time that WP7 has been released, Apple had already released 3-4 updates in 2007. Actually, Since november '10, both apple and google have upgraded there phones extensively
@cool8man That argument sounds to me like releasing a black&white TV set and then arguing that it took other manufacturers 40 years to develop color TV's.
@cool8man actually, in 2007, apple, with it's iphone, shoot down and killed M$ phone os, along with ballmer's retarded smart ass stupid remarks. after some time, google's android took a shit on top of M$ phone, just to ridicule M$. after 3-4 years, M$ came out with a new try, and after so many years, with so many examples, with so many users requests and market studies, their new shiny os is under featured and retarded. they had years to work on it... so, after all, M$ is still slow. ..........
@crashnoww about the apps. what is harder? to create a new market and try to convince developers to make a risky investment in a new platform? or wait in the dark, see where the market is going, and after u have all your stats, came up with a new platform and PAY developers to invest in it?
if u think about it, M$ is light years behind ios and android, they didn't work fast, they just followed 2 good examples, like always, and profited from other's hard work.
100% Agree. Got a windows phone 7 and love it. But Microsoft, SPEED THINGS UP. Or by the time my 18 month contract is up, I will not be satisfied with your 2 updates and then move to a more fluid mOS.
I agree completely with what your saying.... I just wish ms would listen to you and the thousands of other people screaming more updates, I really dont understand why they are so slow.
Remember the Yahoo! Ghost data bug in IMAP handling Yahoo? Well paul said it was Microsoft fault without any proof and finally it turned out to be Y!ahoos fault. WHo listen to someone like that?

So, bandillero, are you HAPPY with the way things are going with WP7?? Is Paul wrong? I'm a Silverlight developer. I used to work form Microsoft and their technology pays my bills every day. I REALLY wanted a WP7 phone. I was very excited to see a new mobile platform from Microsoft. I've been deeply disappointed in the execution. I have no plans to spend my hard-earned cash on hardware three generations old (at best) and an OS that doesn't get updated.
Ah lighten up bandillero! Of all the podcasts that I listen to Windows Weekly is one of the few I take seriously. Paul Thurott, to his credit, not only praises Microsoft when they do something good, but is not afraid to speak his mind when they don't, that's why I trust what the guy says. If you don't like what he has to say don't listen to the podcast.
It is all about you heh, Paul? This is how important you feel about yourself. Your name was not mentioned, the discussion was about blogs, and yet it is about you. How many WP7 blogs exist? You are being very childish. I read you violated your NDA access and wrote about NoDo, Mango etc. Your contacts in WP7 were pissed and the tips dried up. Then you started a 2month rant against WP7. Coming from a shameless cheerleader, you expect us to suddenly start hating WP7 because you said so? Puhleez
An entire segment to essentially CYA or "I was right" is a waste of time.

I'm incredibly disappointed in Windows Phone lately. I had extremely high hopes but Microsoft is falling woefully short lately.
