  • Why is everyone obsessed with finding a "true" waraji? Waraji are just sandals woven with straw rope. Whether they have those multiple strings or those shown in this makes no difference.

  • It does make a difference. Waraji were for long distances and running, and were tied to the foot to keep it secure and improve the wearer's ability to move quickly without loosing a shoe. Zori, what he's got there, are for short distances or walking. Like the differences in sneakers and flip-flops-you aren't going for a jog in the latter.
