ES could not advance in that type of dictatorship. Romero came out to speak against the millitary govt of Gen Romero and NEVER ADVOCATED VIOLENCE. D'Abuisson was a psycho he even tried to kill Alfredo Cristiani b/c he couldn't be prez. Look it up in the CIA declassified files. FOIA.

In addition, Cristiani's testimony does not warrant rejection of the CIA report due to that it was discovered via extra-Salvadorian intel means (not ES originated). He did a fine job with the constitution, no doubt but this was a war for freedom from the repressive military dictatorship of the PCN. Don't you agree?

I still visit El Salvador often; the situation is different but still has the same negative feelings among the right and left wing parties.
