Owned both, prefer the 911's hands down. As the guy said, M3 perfect if you have little skill. 911's have deeper driver involvement and require skill. The fun part, is aquiring and then using the skill. That is not part of the M3 experience. They are both killer, but my preference is 911's. My S2000 makes most the power from 6-8k and for a daily driver and weekend sports car its fantastic... I bet a sleeper 911 in the same respect would be a GREATLY balanced car for whatever you want to do.

This Carrera is awesome.....But if I had the money I'd get the 997 turbo. You can't substitute the pure grip, traction, AWD, and killer turbo engine the 997 provides.
You mentioned the M3 has as much grip as the Audi R8. Given that the R8 is all wheel drive, I assumed it would be awesome around the track. However, I have read and seen many reviews that state Audi's issue has always been one of under steer in all of their models (R8 included).
With regards to the carrera, Why is he saying that "most of the power comes in over 6000rpm" like thats a good thing! A power curve like that would be very difficult to used on the road...
@coolkris14 it still makes plenty of power during the "road use" RPM range, but it kicks even harder at 6k, when you're doing hard pulls or on the track.
@JJ388JAr This is my supercharged 997S and, no, it is not faster than a 2010 Turbo. Manual or PDK. But, I have no forced induction lag whatsoever and I will get the jump on any Turbo already moving. My car isn't faster overall but any 997TT will need to work to overtake me. It's all good fun.
If you run 100 octane and water injection on a stock M3 you can certainly get better than 414HP. My old Audi A6 2.7t goes from 310hp to 360hp by simply using 100 octane and advancing timing to take advantage of the higher octane. In the end however, rating a car's power with 100 octane and water injection is like rating the HP without exhaust or accessories or emission controls, and doing the test in a -100 Celsius test chamber, interesting in an academic way but otherwise meaningless.
@ian7779 Why do you think that s/c is better than turbo? Be specific vs. just typing for typing sake? I will save my technical response for after you list your facts and not opinion.
i dont like the rear fender flares on the e92, they come out an drop down it looks kinda weird, i think the shouldve leveled them out a little bit more
You cannot eliminate the ignition retard (or extremely rich mixture) without serious detonation (knock). An air to water (the kind used in this system) intercooler can only cool the air to above the engine coolant temp, so it will be significantly above the temperature of the air going into the stock M3 engine. The exhaust system might be worth 25HP if it is exceptionally good. Also you must remember that the supercharger uses significant power from the engine (unlike a turbocharger).
@JJ388JAr Dont' believe everything you read chief! Considering that a standard Veyron does 0-60mph in a well known well documented 2.5 sec (4 wheel drive and almost two times the power can do that to a 4,000lb car), it is haighly unlikely the 911 Turbo can come close to that time. Additionally, the Carrera GT doesnt even break your Road and Track, Motor Trend, etc times of 3.0 secs and hopefully you know its faster that a 911 Turbo S.

If you put 6 lbs of boost with no increase in intake temp and drew no power for the supercharger, and didn't have to retard the ignition (and/or enrich the mixture), you would end up with 21/15x414= 580hp. When you add the increased air temp, the power to drive the supercharger, and detonation reduction, and I would guess 500

I am a high school grad (barely) and know that 6 psi from a s/c is not the only reason why the car can attain 620hp. considering, the car has a free flowing exh., a better intake system, an inter cooler (there is your claim to lower density air out the window) and quite possibly an ignition timing system that was NOT retarded, you can easily see how they got that number. Additionally, no every dyno is the same. The diff tween two on diff days can be significant.
@phugwad Have you considered the efficiency of both the BMW v8 and the VF supercharger? The BMW is already producing better than a 1:1 (hp/liter) without the forced induction. Yes, there are parasitic values when calculating net gains, but it is not unusual to see150% at 6psi. In fact, these are modest gains. In this case 1.49758454. btw this set up runs 100 octane, recalibrated fuel injectors and an air/water induction cooling system....so..not quite stock. Engineers don't guess! lol

@DVaderlar The professional driver who drove my supercharged 997S (the car featured in this video) said the car did get unstable at higher speeds. As you said, it needs the Porsche aerokit or equivalent to produce down force on the front and rear. I would expect that of any stock narrow body.

That said. You get your Supercharger for $12.5K requires re-tune I think they went with bigger injector 650cc In car you're driving if I remember correctly. Totaling in $16K. Which is cool but lets face it a $2K chip & IPD plenum in 996 & 997 Turbo gets you higher HP gain/better performance.

Saw this post when it first came out and I was very impressed. You explained the technical details well but lacked a concise criticism. If there was one criticism of the M3 I would think it would be the outlandishness of the paint/body scheme. It's not something an executive would want to go to work in. I do appreciate the review and I disagree the best thing for an M3 would be a turbo by HPF, too much boost and not enough performance opposed to the middle band supercharger.
@Kkempinski this particular car is a show car and meant to demostrate VF Engineering's tuning abilities, not necessarily something an executive would want to take to work. The body is completely functional, allowing for more grip and downforce, but the paint is clearly just for shows and not customer cars.
@TheSmokingTire Oh no doubt this car is sick and the body plays a role in down force my only point was the video portrayed this car as a one off show car and the paint scheme wasn't mentioned. Like you said most of the sophistication of the M3 was left in tact and I was happy to see no ridiculous spoiler added for down force by VF, these guys clearly know what they are doing mechanically speaking. Their M3 is a better take on perfection than the SL65 Black, hands down.

Saw this post when it first came out and I was very impressed. You explained the technical details well but lacked a concise criticism. If there was one criticism of the M3 I would think it would be the outlandishness of the paint/body scheme. It's not something an executive would want to go to work in. I do appreciate the review and I disagree the best thing for an M3 would be a turbo by HPF, too much boost and not enough performance opposed to the middle band supercharger.

@Kkempinski this particular car is a show car and meant to demostrate VF Engineering's tuning abilities, not necessarily something an executive would want to take to work. The body is completely functional, allowing for more grip and downforce, but the paint is clearly just for shows and not customer cars.

@TheSmokingTire Oh no doubt this car is sick and the body plays a role in down force my only point was the video portrayed this car as a one off show car and the paint scheme wasn't mentioned. Like you said most of the sophistication of the M3 was left in tact and I was happy to see no ridiculous spoiler added for down force by VF, these guys clearly know what they are doing mechanically speaking. Their M3 is a better take on perfection than the SL65 Black, hands down.

I'm sorry but that's just a silly comment. I'm all for giving criticism where it's due, but I'm also just as against grasping for straws when you really don't have any real point to make. The paint scheme is too outlandish? Take a look at it one more time and you'll see they didn't just try and make it as crazy as possible, it follows a pretty strict overall design language, it's supposed to look like a fighter jet. besides that, It's a show car, it's supposed to look insane.

Great vid dude... I'm planning on purchasing an M3 pretty soon just for an every day car. I would have probably never heard of VF engineering if it weren't for your vid. They may get a couple checks soon as I secure the M3.
PS I work with what I have a passion for and make fairly decent fortune at it... Lol some people don't like me either. I think it's a side effect of having an awesome life.

That M3 is the coolest sexiest machine ive ever seen. i love bmw's and if i had the option between any car in the world that wasnt ridiculous in price no doubt the m3 and with it supercharged like that id give everything but my legs and my arms cause then i couldnt drive it.
