You are supposed to hold the finger controller 1-2cm away; not touch the top with it! That is how the game penalizes you for getting too close. Check out the Control video on our channel!

Sounds like battling top to me ... obviously, I am not trying to argue about this, but of course I understand the history of spinning tops very well. :)

Actually, spinning tops were very often used for battling ... just look up the history of the ancient Beygoma spin top, which Beyblade is based on.
