The translation is correct as far as it goes. If "the language is the soul of a nation then Romania must have plenty of soul since there are so many languages within it., including all the above. If it were true then Ireland and Scotland appear quite happy to give up their own souls, and get a "soul transplant"

I have posted the words in the "More Info" section. As it is not a literal translation, there is no mention of Michael, Trevelyan's corn, or Botany Bay in this translation. Apart from that it's quite similar to the English lyrics.

Overall I subscribe to the idea put forth by Colm O'Baoill that all forms of Gaelic are all legitimate and equal, and this separation into Irish and Scottish Gaelic is largely a result of an Anglophone way of seeing the language. Recently, I spoke to someone and when I mentioned I was taking Gaelic classes he wanted to know why I wasn't studying Irish, "the original" instead. I almost died laughing.

But of course I am not saying that studying the currently dominant form of Gaelic in Ireland is not of great benefit, it is. I am just saying that to imply that what is spoken today in Ireland is a more pure form of the language is, to my mind at least, wrong.
