As far as my knowledge goes, thorsen-diffs are torque sensitive and not revelation sensitive. So the video is correct, BUT if you add torque differences between the wheels by braking the same time you're accelerating, it would get out easily. I am driving and Audi 80 B4 Avant quattro 2.6 and never had a problem in any situation. You just have to know how to drive each car. Every AWD has it's flaw, you just need to know it. But quattro in general is one of the best AWD-Systems.

Nope. This is all about the guy being a lousy driver.

It's a Torsen-diff quattro. When the wheels spin freely, just use a bit of handbrake or left-foot braking to load up the spinning wheels and transfer power to the wheels that have grip.

STFU. He is just demonstrating how its got open differentials. Power in car flows to the wheel with least resistance. Thats how nature works. If he had locking differentials, power would be sent to both axles and if he had the new e-brake system, he would move.

Here's a short Quattro lession: Quattro = Torsen center differential, which is dricition based, self locking differential. No traction at all = No friction = No lock!

Solution: Pull the handbrake just a bit or push the brakes slightly and off you go!

Don't know why many people dislike this test? It's true that the torsen diff freaks out when there's close to zero traction to one front or rear wheel and if front and rear diffs are open just leaves the car helpless with only one spinning wheel! The Audi's have rear diff lock (the older models manual the newer LSD) which prevents losing of traction to rear wheels but still if one of the front wheels lose it's traction you're gone. Newer Audi's have EDS too that helps but not in hard offroad!

PS - Well these Audi's are not heavy metal offroad vehicles so we don't have to expect from them to be perfect in any conditions or offroad! But Audi Quattro are really good as AWD cars - for sure one of the best!

well actually i also have a audi quattro 2.5TDI C4, i have made the same tests just to check how the torsen differential acts in different conditions, and if one axle (or just one wheel because of the differential in front and rear) looses traction, then the torsen is unable to send power to the axle that has traction! if it's a rear wheel that has lost traction, you can apply the parking brake slightly, then there will be some power sent to the front axle to move the car.

@Swedediesel and on my car there is no diff lock in the rear axle, i have EDS, that works with the antilock brakes and it applies the brake on the spinning wheel, so when i had the right front and left rear wheel off the ground and spinning, i only needed to hold steady throttle and wait for the EDS to apply the brakes on the spinning wheels and the car moved.
