  • Respect to an old time master. An entire lifetime in his art. Looks like he'd knock your head off in a fight and pat you on the back after a hard class. Hard as stone and gentle as water. Love these clips

  • he does seem overweight but his moves are very quick, accurate, and deadly! I am guessing he was absolutely strong as a bull too!

  • There is no understanding of Shotokan unless you have practiced 30 to 40 years and then there are about 20 students who start to understand. If you were to play as Fritz Chrysler or Hendrix in Little Wing or to write as in King Lear perhaps one could gain insight. Others just imagine. BTW. Oss is not a karate term. It started in the late 70's. It is an embarrassing expression from a cultural point of view.

  • @Ibegrasshopper Oss is actually "osu" and IS a Japanese military term from long ago. Zenkutsu dachi does not mean front stance either, it refers to the way the body is being used. Many terms in the Japanese language have been applied to karate because the Japanese, primarily the JKA, have told the world they are the keeper of karate and they are not. Many Okinawan terms are different simply because it is they that really are the keeper of karate.

  • @Ibegrasshopper There is no understanding of Shotokan period in terms of karate, it is extremely corrupted. There is great understanding to be had of the JKA version of Funakoshis art if some things are kept perfectly clear, it is not karate, it is a sport the JKA devised, it makes little combative sense, it has JKA introduced contrived and unnatural techniques and they indented it that way. Shotokan karate does exist, it is small in Japan and it is NOT in the JKA. Hordes will kick and scream

  • @Ibegrasshopper at my impudence yet study of JKA history, who they were as people and what karate really is will prove the objective truth.

  • i had the honor to to be tought the basics of shotokan karate by sensei Ken Button from the UK who was in tern tought by sensei's Kase and Enoda, all truly great men, i think theres something admiral about men who devote themselves to a cause or a way, bless them all, i have now turned to wing chun so i guess my cup is empty once again

  • he looks just like another old man in Chinatown, but I can feel the power when he move.

  • OSSS sensei kase, i discovered Shotokan in september, in a Dojo of my city, and they training with the Kase Association!! is an honour for me learn this style.

  • my sensei ..

R.I.P. from me and all my collegues

  • so strong! Holy Shit!!!

  • 0:36

    i thought he was black

  • J practise in Shotokan federation , j from serbia...and j have yelow belt :))))

  • OSS!! SENSEI!!

  • I love this guy. He is an absolute powerhouse of technique.

  • @Bodecea21 well said

I was looking for just the right person to emulate for tekki and then i seen his........powerhouse

  • Terribly underappreciated and undervalued in his achievements and furtherance of the art. Not the he needed the approval or recognition of others to validate all he's done, of course.

    God rest him!

  • Probably one of the greatest exponents of Shotokan Karate I ever had the pleasure of training with. A truly inspiring karate man and a true gentleman. I was honoured and privileged to train under Taiji Kase for the last 17 years of his life and what an hoour it was. A great innovator and true to the line of karate established by Yoshitaka Funakoshi. One of the last great samurai...Domo Arigato Gosaimashita, Dave Wilkins 6th Dan Shotokan Ryu Kase Ha.

  • a true master.superb.

    with respect.

    jeff scott belfast

    wado ryu

  • best of the best for hara. and real kime. oss.

  • The guy is quick, powerful, and strong. But, I think his techniques look awfully shallow here. I'd like to see a lot more preparation in the Tekki kata. Sharper stances would be nice as well.

  • Big, big respect to him!

Btw, i am learning the Shotokan Karate style

  • "Kase always remained devoted (...) to practice and teach Shotokan as it was taught to him"

This is of course not true. Kase introduced many creative and innovative aspects within a "traditional" frame. Many things he said were from Gigo were in fact his innovations. He trained several months w/ Gigo, not more than a year. Nowadays, this would never be enough for a Sandan. Nevertheless - he was one or the best Shotokan teacher, which is a rather modern variation of trad. Okinanwa Karate.

  • *Bow* Osu Sensei!

  • Respect " bow "

  • 'Karate is like trying to start a fire with wet matches, after a few attempts you might get the odd spark, but if you are patient engough you will get a fire that lasts forever.'

    Quote from Taiji Kase

    Osu.

  • I have this quote on my wall! :-)

  • @M21MrChristian

    Osu?!

    Did you stud Kyokushin?

I am, but also have a love for the Classic art of Shotokan

  • einer der Besten! Oss!

  • Oss!! Sensei!!

  • it's tekki sandan

  • great teki shodan kata.. very nice... I learned it a little differantly =) but katas do change from time to time. :)

  • NOTICE: If you have an understanding of Shotokan Karate-do please feel free to leave a comment, otherwise time wasters are not wanted. Thank You

  • was is das mal hamma

  • I train shotokan at one of his students...And what can i say about kase he was thebest of the best,Legend of shotokan karate

  • as great as he was, i tend to think he had a constant error in his kihon, namely his butt sticking out all the time, most especially during oi zuki. i respect the man but can't help but notice.

  • it dont matter to him all he would need to do i blow on you and you`d go down now that power!!!!!

  • 5 stars!!!

  • He was the best!! The true master of shotokan!! I trained with this revolutionary of Karate for 3 times when he came to Portugal!!

  • why are lots of men who do karate over-weight. no offense but its the truth. i dont see over-weight people doing Taekwon-do, Muay Thai kung-fu, or any other martial art. This is a serious comment i hope people responding treat it as such. I just dont see how you'r going to defend against the speed of people in other martial arts or even people completely untrained when most of the people who i have seen are very slow and heavy in their movements whilst practicing the art of Karate.

  • I trained with Sensei Kase once in 1987 after the death of Nakayama. Like yourself I believed my youthful speed and technique would allow me to catch him with an attack (this was my first time seeing Kase and he seemed overweight to me). But when I faced him for a demonstration he easily avoided my attack and went behind me to counter on the back of my head, laughing at me in good humour. He was without doubt the fastest person I have ever seen in the flesh in a karate suit, despite his weight!

  • he was the teacher of my teacher.... but as long as his shotokan teachings and spirit flows in our blood and we shall endeavour it as he did he will remain with us forever. Thank you O Sensei Kase

  • He was the teacher of my teacher's teacher. :)

    Shotokan for life.

  • suertudo? what?

  • suertudo, mariachibuster

  • it was the most sublime moment in my life to have trained with him and jp. thank you.
