I love this movie. My late dad introduced me to Mel Brooks' films including this one. I have fond memories of him and I laughing our asses off at "springtime for hitler". As a kid I didn't see what the big deal was. My dad was like "you don't understand...this is TASTELESS" whilst laughing. Good times. Miss you dad. Thanks for Mel Brooks among other things.
I went to one of his one man show before his death. On the stage the curtain was up and there was a huge stack of red bricks. It was when everyone was seated and the house lights went down, that the pile of bricks erupted and Dick Shawn emerged...scared the piss out of nearly everyone!!! Pure genius!!!
I'm of two minds about this. Amid the all star cast of the original Shawn was my favorite part. Then missing in the remake. I guess no one could have adequately recreated LSD, so maybe better not to try.
