Some have complained, but I have a single handle Moen faucet, and this is EXACTLY what I needed to do the job right. I had some problems reseating the new cartridge, but watching this gave me the assurance to move forward with a little more force. I would have never operated the handle and determined if I had it facing the correct direction without seeing this video first. I appreciate the information. Please keep providing it. There are a lot weekend warriors out here that need the help.
MOE does a great job of replacing parts for free, but did not give me an instruction on how to replace it. You saved me a ton of money by showing me how to remove the old 1225B part. If not for the video, I would have never figured it out. Thanks a bunch...-AR
This was exactly what we needed to fix our kitchen sink. As first time home owners we had no idea what to do and lived with it for over a year. we useda coffee can to catch the water lol. Thank you for this video!
Hi all, Good video, however if you are trying to unscrew any type of single pillar type tap headgear these can prove to be extremely difficult, have a look at the Easytapsplitter, video on youtube. shows you the very easy way.
This is not a "useless video", maybe this video does not work for everyone but "useless" is not the right word to use msgirlonline. This video is clear, detailed and to the point and it'll help a lot of people. Great video, it helped me and I don't have the exact faucet but still very helpful. Thanks.
@TheTeamJada I,m glad my video helped you and thanks for the support. Be sure to visit my website for more videos and tips on fixing your own plumbing.
@mstplumber i have a issue white calcium deposits on my shower knobs and they get stuck ..right now i cant turn the hot knob? and it leaks threw the knob but no water flows threw the shower head ?
just wanted to add one thing. Moen products have a lifetime warranty, so if you don't have your original paperwork (model # etc) search google images for your model and you will find a model #/ name.
Call Moen @ 800-289-6636 and they will send you a replacement cartridge free.
GREAT service, and this video makes replacement easy!
I used this to figure out my single handle faucet...worked exactly the same. I had trouble getting the cartridge out so I had to stand on the counter over the faucet and pull up. I just about tumbled to the floor when it suddenly came loose! But I got it! Thank you for the instructions. It's off to the hardware store now for a new cartridge.
Now pry up on the brass stem while, using the point where your plier tips rest on the valve body as a fulcrum.. This gives you a lot of leverage without stressing the faucet. Once you get the cartridge unstuck it will come out pretty easily.
Ditto to TheOldkid888 . Just place the little plastic tool over the brass stem and get it seated between the notches, then turn it with your channel locks. That will unstick the cartridge and you should then be able to remove it. If for some reason you don't have the tool, try the following:
pull the center brass stem all the way up, adjust your pliers so you can grab the brass stem while resting the tips of the plier jaws on the valve body (the part the cartridge goes into). Con't next
The plastic tool they give you when you get a new cartridge is worth its weight in gold to help you turn the cartridge before you pull it out.If the hots on the right when you put it back together;it is just a matter of turning the centre brass stem 180 degrees and and the hot will then be on the right.Moen does guarentee their faucets for life as well and you can get that cartridge free of charge.good luck and have agood day.
Brian!, I followed every single steps of your instruction, but when I got to the point to pull the cartridge out, I got stuck. I couldn't get it out . It's so tight. You have any suggesttion?
I found this video and followed it step by step. The only part I could not do on my own was pulling out the old part. My 27 year old son took it off, with a fair amount of effort. Otherwise, this 52 year female accountant was able to complete the task herself! Thank you!
Thanks for this very helpful video Brian. I replaced the cartridge with ease, but now the handle doesn't want to stay up when I lift it. So I turn the water on, and the handle just drops and turns it off. Any idea why?
I told my wife it's a conservation feature, but she didn't buy it :-)
Brian, thanks for the video. While I do not have the same exact fawcett, I do have a MOEN and it worked similarily. Your instructions were perfect and a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks again!!
Great video! One thing I suggest to anyone working on a kitchen faucet is to add reliable 1/4 turn shutoffs (with solderless compression fittings) just above the old fashioned ones that most sinks have. After the water is back on, tie-wrap the handles of the old ones so they never get used again. The old style shutoffs have a nasty habit of dripping a little more every time they're opened and closed; I'm sure they ruin thousands of cabinets every year.
Mr plumber, thanks for the video, it helped me replace the cartridge but I was left with a small black plastic ring that pulls apart which I think has led to the faucet being loose and sometimes when I push it down to off it doesn't catch and the water stays on. I obviously missed putting it back on in the correct order but after reviewing your video I didn't see any sign of such an item. The only black plastic ring was near the base and that's back on fine. Do you know where it does?

this is a great product - after viewing this video i went to the site - Driptite.com - and bought a few of these (like 30.00 each) and love them. If you own a home or are a landlord you really should consider installing these...you will not regret it...best money you could spend to SAVE ALLOT OF MONEY in possible water damage - or mold. They really are very inexpensive considering what you get to protect your home.
thanks mstplumber -i had a leaky moen kitchen faucet the other day and followed your tips. i worked. it did take a bit of a pull to get the cartridge out but it came out! took it to my local plumbing parts store. got it replaced for free! good ole lifetime warranty. thanks again. question. do you have any video for a single lever shower replacement? it's a moen as well. thx

Thanks so much for this video... because if you I was finally to repair my increasingly leaky faucet myself, and I am NO plumber lol! Got it done smoothly, however I notice now that when I turn the water on full blast, it's almost like the cartridge is lubed so well that the weight of the faucet handle is able to weigh it down, lowering the water pressure... Did i do something wrong? It never shuts off completely, just to a weaker flow.
Brian, Great video and it is even better that it looks like you are repairing my exact faucet. I followed your instruction but got stuck removing the handle. I took out the set screw but the handle did not come off. I pulled pretty hard but did not want to break anything. Should I pull as hard as I can? The shround pulls loose if I pull too hard. Could the handle be bound by calcium deposits?
@RFurball Try wiggling while you pull. It could definitely be stuck by calcium deposits but it has to come off. If it doesn't you will have to replace the faucet anyway so you might as well go for it.
@RFurball This was a great video. I watched it all and then played it in steps until I was done. The only part I had difficulty with was removing the old part which required my 27 year old son who had more strength. Otherwise this 52 year old female did it herself!
Brian, great video and thank you however, I am having challenges pulling the valve out. The faucet came wirth the house house about 15 years ago, anyadvice on how to pull the valve out?
@imanolgonz A new cartridge comes with a little plastic removal tool. remove the little copper clip, fit the tool on top of the cartridge, grab the plastic tool with the channel locks and twist it back and forth to break the seal on the old cartridge. Yo should be able to remove the old cartridge now.
That's very informative video , Brian. The only thing I noticed is that ,you only replace half of the cartridge (1225 B) it looks longer than the one you remove& replaced.
Wow, Thank you so much, this looked identical to my faucet and everything was exactly as video showed. Could not find anything like this on moen's web site! One small critique though, allen wrench needed to start the whole process was 7/64" as opposed to "handy dandy little"
