  • no I would not go university to learn medicine..rather if I wanted to become a doctor than i am forced to as the current system in place forces me to do so.... Same goes for vocal training if you want to teach vocal that you are forced but please remember knowledge is free for those who seek it and it your intelligence on that matter that determines the results not memorizing a couple of essays and doing a open book exam.....

  • i HAVE A QUESTON FROM THE DAMAGE VIDEO. I did not understand well, cause I speak spanish better, but, you mean that if I send a lot of air to the vocal chords, this is not good and can harm the vocal chords??

  • Thanks James this is very helpul and well explained

  • am i right in thinking blowing up a balloon and inhaleing the air back also helps in the same sorta' way?

  • You don't know what these singers do. You love for ignorance is astounding.

  • GaryProVox: No, you do not understand what these singers do, because my uncle personally knows one of these singers and he knows what they do.

Your love for limited sources is ignorance.

My love for advanced knowledge is what made me a better singer.

  • Your love for advanced knowledge, give me a break.

  • I want you to demonstrate something, if you think you know so much and have 3 degrees in voice then show me a demonstration of what your voice can do.

  • I am an actual voice teacher that makes a living giving voice lessons. Why would I demonstrate anything to you? You want free lessons from youtube; your getting what you pay for.

  • I don't get free lessons from youtube, I am a singer.

I am taught by teachers that worked with award winning singers.

One of the main things to look for in a vocal teacher is their own voice, I want you to demonstrate to me how you go from your chest to mix to head on and open AH sound then come back down again, this way I can see how your voice is and what your range is in your voice.

  • A person does not need to achieve degrees to understand voice, they can learn it directly from teachers without going through a middle man system (University).

I have been to vocal teachers + vocal doctors and the majority of the vocal doctors have the same opinion about voice.

You don't need to struggle to reach high notes, in fact higher notes are easier to sing than lower notes because it requires less air.

  • true it does take less air..but it conversely takes not only better aim,but also an increase in air speed..so I would say that low notes or high notes are also challenging..Its really a personality and tech thingy..some people sky dive while others swim in the ocean.

  • Low notes and high notes should use the same amount of air, the air flow has to be constant like as if ur on cruise control, if you reduce air flow or increase it, it will cause problems. You don't need more breath pressure to sound louder.

You need to know how to open the voice, as you go higher your meant to lift up ur cheeks slightly which also lifts up the soft palate. This will give you a very resonant and open sound.

Breath should be coming from the lower back.

  • From the lower back?I understand the image concept..but air comes through the mouth and nostrils..through soft tissue and into the lungs, the position of the body and the head affect resonation but music acoustics don't vary..higher pitches are the result of faster air..not more..and the opposite for low notes-the amount of air used depends on the duration and dynamic situation..also volume is also relative to the instrument/some people just have big voices.Cruise control uses varying gas levels

  • What I meant about lower back is breath support comes from the lower back. This is what is taught in classical training.

Higer pitches do not require faster air nor does it require more air but the same amount of air as lower pitches, if you have faster air then you will only blow out your vocal cords which is very damaging.

Air flow should not be restricted nor should it be forced, you should not feel pain in your throat.

The example you are giving me is a very throaty technique.

  • @aminul1984 No, higher notes require way less air than lower notes and can also be sustained for much longer.

  • One of my teachers told me that naturally in SLS when you come from a high pitch down you tend to drop everything, like your whole body collapses. This is wrong because you should use the same amount of air even when you are coming down, if you collapse your whole body then you will go back in the throat.

  • I used to study SLS before and I saw that it was making my voice worser. I studied it for 2 years.

Now I am studying the Italian/Swedish technique with a classical teacher.

SLS is very throaty and it will only damage voices, have you noticed that most SLS singers have a hoarse voice when they speak, is that a good thing? I don't think so.

When you hear a good classical singer speak their voices are always resonating and very clear.

This guy in the video is pure SLS which is garbage.

  • @000231846597 Swedish/Italian technique is more closer to a good technique than Speech Level Singing. What SLS does is it fools the voice but in the long term people who use SLS get nodules.

They completely neglect support and opening or resonance, in fact SLS singers actually have no tone, it's all flat. SLS sqeezes too much which is bad.

I have studied SLS for 2 years and I know what the problem is with it, I have found a better technique now, a classical one.

  • @000231846597 If you want to hear a pop singer use good classical techniques to sing then search for Jed Madela.

You will notice that his sound is more richer than SLS singers and when he goes higher he doesn't go quiet like SLS singers, his voice actually sounds louder. He has a tone in his voice, SLS singers have no tone or resonance because everything is all squeezed, they don't make use of their resonaters like lifting the cheeks which help to resonate sound in the head.

  • @000231846597 If you want to learn a good singing technique then go to a university vocal teacher not someone that teaches out of his house or studio.

These so called teachers are mostly trying to make money, I am not saying all of them are like that but most of them are.

You would go to univeristy to learn medicine then why not go there to learn voice?

  • Sorry i'm meant to say Swedish/Italian school of singing.

  • I am not ignorant, you are. You don't have any respect for this teacher because you don't agree with him.

I respect you as a teacher but I do not have to agree with your methods or approach in teaching.

    There is a difference

  • What method do you use then? Show me your methods of vocal technique

  • Your joking right? Would you ask a doctor or a lawer to "show" you?

  • A voice doctor knows how the voice works because they use sophisticated equipment to check someones vocal cords.

  • You missed the point.

  • Look, it doesnt matter what I use to train my voice. There are good and bad techniques, I don't know what technique you use therefore I cannot judge it.

A friend of mine uses some Indian vocal technique to develop his voice and I respect that, it is different but it works.

So please do not be rude and say that this man is chatting rubbish, you can probably learn from him. It doesnt matter how many degrees you got, you wont know everything, there is always someone that is better than you.

  • This is all BS!

  • maziarkd: If you call this BS why don't you give it a try and see if it works.

This exercise is used by many singers including singers like Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder.

All of them great singers and great voices.

I train with this exercise everyday to develop my voice, and I have to say that my voice is fully connected now, from chest to head.

I have a 3 octave range which took me only 2 months to achieve and I am strengthening my voice day by day.

  • The more he speaks, the more ignorance he shows.

  • GaryProVox: Your an ignorant person to talk like that and call a person that has a lot more knowledge than you ignorant.

I use this exercise everyday to warm up my voice and guess what? I got a 3 octave range in 2 months, and those notes I could hit comfortably, all of them are fully connected and not breathy.

I can even sing full out opera.

Why don't u try it and stop being so rude

  • I have three degrees in modern vocal pedagogy; I'm far from ignorant. Unless there is vocal dammage, most singing students already have at least 3 octaves.

  • It doesnt matter how many degrees you have, my teacher met many people with degrees and most of them could not even get into their head voice.

3 degrees is just pieces of paper showing what you think you know is correct.

Mastering something is better than universitiy stuff, and this is what my vocal teacher has done, he has mastered voice by learning from all kinds of sources, and by the way he was more degrees than your pathetic 3.

  • 3 degrees in vocal pedagogy and performance are not just a piece of paper. It means I am an expert and spent the time and money studying vocal technique. An at the university we have to master this stuff. The idea that you think a voice teacher should be ignorant is astounding.

  • I did not have a 3 octave range before but in 2 months of SLS vocal training my voice reached up to 3 and some days I can go above 3 maybe even 4.

  • Most people have three octave voices, without training. The idea that you think that this is some sort of feat shows you ignorance of the voice.

  • @GaryProVox If he started with two, then it IS a "feat" that he can now hit 3. Why are you being so pompous?

  • Really helped! Thank you!

  • HA. I've been singing professionally for 8 years and yesserie, I do this exercise every day, before and after I sing, and teach it to all my private students!
