She was actually born in New York, so she is American. Her parents are both Japanese, and she also grew up in Tokyo had her career start there, so she can sing in either language.
omg, you should totally listen to her japanese songs, they're awesome! and if you look on youtube, sometimes the vids have translations or the translation is in the about vid section on the side. and you can google for translations too.
i recommend first love, hikari, prisoner of love, stay gold, keep tryin', final distance, flavor of life... whatever you can find, she's the best!
Her Japanese songs are just amazing. I'm taking Japanese right now and I understand parts of it but like ogdayflow said, you can get the translations online.
i think that she trying to fit in USA before she show her own style, because USA might not be ready for her style yet. So she have to fit in before showing her style.
I love all of her music. I hope she becomes very well-known in America. She deserves to be, being such a great artist, also having been born in NY. Best of luck to Utada-san. Ganbatte!
hmmm... To tell you the truth, this song and beat is not bad. She has a message in this song too (unlike the FYI song). However, I think Hikaru is trying to go western with her style. She is no longer using her original style and has started to change to a more western like approach. Personally I believe that her older songs are better.
i heard she;s having a contest to sing her song and win a trip to tokyo with her and with three friends and spend a week with her or something and do a duet song with her or something like that
Thats not necessarily true. 'Were' would signify that it's past tense. Most of the words in the song clue us that it's present tense. So 'are' would be correct.
This grammar lesson isn't the point of it all. The point is that lyrics say "were" not "are." You can look it up on any lyrics site, or ask her yourself.
I was just saying that your argument held no water. If you wanted to prove your point, you should have directed us to a lyric site, not use an invalid grammar statement.
i totally get what your saying this isnt a sad song but it reminds me of my current ex-boyfriend who i am still in love with... we were such great friends but now we arent.... :'(
Almost all the songs in the album deal with relationship issues, and though I love all the songs they keep making me cry and get all depressed because I just broke up with my bf. Sigh. We're still friends though, just not in that special way anymore. :'(
oh god!!!!! This is so good I almost died!!!!!!!!!! I've officially changed my fav song (which I've had for 8 yrs) to this!!!!!!!! you HAVE to tell me where u got the full!!!!!!!!!!^^
She is the same. But she stated in an interview that because she is half american and half japanese its easier for her to act different here than how she acts in america.
Plus she has to make mainstream music here in the U.S. if she wants to get recognized. Her EXODUS "experimental" album didnt go so well -_-.
just like what hikki said, some songs on her album r lyrics driven and others beat driven. this is going to be a great album. i am going to buy the digital and hardcopy of " this is the one"
This album sounds more like it. Exodus was good, but it really had no depth to it, other than maybe 2 songs. This album sounds like it has the depth of her Japanese stuff, while being able to maintain a good beat. I like!
gah, it happens everytime! the first time i listen to an Utada Hikaru song i'm like "w/e it's okay. nothing special" and then when i hear it more after that i'm like "this is the best song ever!"
She look so hot!!!

Well sadly she tried to debut in the States using that kind of music and she didn't get noticed at all.
She's trying to get alittle more mainstream.
She's still the same amazing woman though.

one little thing i noticed right here:
"I can't believe that you and me are falling out of love"
I believe the 'are' should be 'were'
very good song, thanks for uploading
xxdelta77xx446 2 years ago
Thats not necessarily true. 'Were' would signify that it's past tense. Most of the words in the song clue us that it's present tense. So 'are' would be correct.
XD
lol sorry.
supervixon 2 years ago
sorry buddy, look at the line right after it:
And everybody used to be so envious of us
that proves it should be 'were' not 'are'..
xxdelta77xx446 2 years ago
That's not true at all.
"I am going to the store again. I forgot milk."
The first sentence is in present while the latter is in past.
