@klyopik First off the pole vault is a traditional US sport. All the great early vaulters were american, but once Bubka came onto the scene, 1985(might be off a year) an american didn't medal until the 1997 world championships and did not win an olympiad untill 2000. Tommy Skipper doesn't even jump anymore and he never jumped 6.00 meters, never mind beat Bubka. Honestly you just sound ignorant.

Actually Tommy skipper only jumped 5.80 meters. The US record was set by Brad Walker at 6.04 meters.

Anyone else notice that Bubka almost always pushes off the pole with his bottom hand or both hand simotanously. You have to have a great swing and alot of strength to still be able to get off the top of the pole like that.

yup, 10.3 hundred (an alternate on the USSR's 4x100 team for a time), and he also ran a 10.9 100m, WITH HIS 5.20 POLE. He also long jumped 26', high jumped 6'6, and had a vertical leap of like 39". He was a monster on every plane

It's amazing, in some vaults, we clearly see that he don't need to push the pole to clear the barr... I put a lot of energy in the pole... He is (was) actually the only one to do it !! So strong !!!
