Ah yes, the clamshell. Advertisers love 'em because it shows off the package, but thousands of people each year hate them because of the injuries they get opening them, lol.
by accident, I-wore the Tat Cutter on both my key ring and cliped to my carryon case-no one ever questioned it and I like have a cutting tool while I'm traveling, hate having to bite open a bag of nuts so I now use my tat cutter that passed

Also the proble, your having with the cord like most materials is it bunches up, the mouth needs to be wider as well in my opinion...
p.s. yeah I hate thopse no tear envelopes, lol...I cant tell you how often I see people trying to trip them open and I have to go over and open it for them...haha
I have used sveral of these types of knives, from the benchmade rewscue hook modesl to cheaper alternatives like this, and even guthooks in general, I like the idea, but really think having a fine point on the bottom of the "arm" to get into the material and the get the hook started woudl be a BIG help...the problem, then is to protect the tip with somethgin like a small piece of rubber or kydex so you dotn stab yourself on accident...
well tat aint that tatoo? lol jokeing=) cool thing we have a heavyduty envelopeopener with a razor in.. I think my dad has it in his car.. but It works realy good on the safteybelt.. Just an emergency thing:)
also, it is because the kevlar, that stuff eats the hell out of a edge, it's like trying to cut fiber glass, slowly grinds away the steel, the paracord should cut well after a good sharpening.
also, the grip you used at 6:08 is perfect, the most grip possible and keeps the cord from slipping out and focuses all the force against the entire edge instead of on one side of the edge, maximizing distribution of the material and effectively making it less material to push through.
I don't mind clamshells, I hate sealed clamshells, like the ones cheapo stuff come in and some smaller electronic accessories like SD cards and such.
bubble evelopes are a useless burden sometimes too, especially when they're super taped at the closing end, making it a mess to get through, I've even tried using the gut hooks on my hunting knives and it was just a useless pain.
I've also seen this design for dressing large game, about the same size too.
It is a climbing term, I am not sure, but I think it means like webbing or something, when rock climbing.... I dont know, but it has something to do with rock climbing
your right about climbing, it's also used in underwater work, it's so you can choose a specific cord or sheet of webbing and not worry about cutting yourself or other lines you want to keep intact( like your air hose or your supporting line), they're sometimes used for specific cord cutting tasks, since they cut it more efficiently, not allowing the cord to slip along the edge, actually forcing it to meet the edge and be cut.
I use one for box cutter at work, since they get scared when we use open blades (oh well, it's the sheeple mentality). It works great for that though, eats through cardboard and packing tape like it was nothing.

joninthetoilet 2 years ago
WHy not take it to school lol, most people wouldnt even know it was a rescue hook
QuietBearr 2 years ago
I am unimpressed. A Benchmade Rescue 5 would do the job much better (see Nutnfancy's review).
Slayermachete 2 years ago
And the Benchmade is only $5 more.
Also, where did you get your sharpener?
Slayermachete 2 years ago
Smiths, it came with a new angle guide system that I will do a review on soon.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
Oh, you can buy them separately though for like 5-8 bucks.

I suspect that it would work well to open up fish and game
QuietBearr 2 years ago
only difference that I see now is the size of the entrance, hunting versions are usually wider to allow thicker skin.
flamedrag18 2 years ago
Thats the difference between a gut hook and a line cutter on knives, the only difference actually.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
Oh yea, and this would work fine, the gate is about a half inch wide, so even thick skins would fit in there.

I know a line cutter is used in underwater work, it is used many places, but the word "tat" is specific to climbing

Its true, I find it works better going through clamshels, boxes and paper then on lines and ropes...
It works great for it! I can see myself opening mail with it! Easy to sharpen as well since it is chisel ground. (or you can just buy a new one lol)
