  • Your video shows an excellent example of the recovery of an area burned by the Station Fire in 2009. There is a lot of greenery in the burned areas yet there are still signs of the fire. Since this was taken in the spring of a relatively wet year it is quite green and now in October it is quite brown a part of the normal wet dry cycle here. This past rainy season of July 2010 thru June of 2011 is sort of an anomoly with a La Nina year normally bringing dry conditions here but not this time.

  • Wow....so this is what the canyon looks like since the Station fire? I haven't been up there since before that. I kind of figured they hadn't repaired the road yet. Do you know if it's now open all the way to Palmdale or Angeles Crest Hwy? I live in Sunland. It's nice to see all the new growth. Still sad that so many homes were lost up there in Vogel Flats. Nice video!

  • @Soaptivated I've not much idea if I'm honest :) I was visiting from UK & so have no idea whether it's open or not. Although I do know we drove right to the end of this road if it's any help

  • @jthornley12 Okay. So you took Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. from Sunland-Tujunga, went northeast into the canyon and at the end of that road you came to a stop sign, where it meets up with Angeles Crest Hwy. That tells me the road is open at least that far. It also tells me that you may have passed Vogal Flats. Chances are the sign on the road is gone, but the turnoff leads to numerous homes down in the canyon below the road that were lost in the fire...about 12 miles up BTC Rd.

  • @jth12 So now I have to ask, as you were driving up there, there's a cluster of 4-5 homes right alongside the road...just before a bridge. If you were returning to Sunland-Tujunga on your way back down, as you came across that bridge, you'd be directly facing the big picture window of one of those homes higher up above you. A few of my high school friends from long ago lived in those homes. I am wondering if they're still , or if they burned down. About 6mi/10km into the canyon. See them?

  • @Soaptivated Hmm right now I honestly can't remember. Perhaps I got them in a video or picture that I took, but from memory I can't remember seeing them. I remember the Bridge, but can't remember the houses being there or not.. Jt

  • @jthornley12 How odd to be asking a bloke in the UK about my local canyon...lol. My next door neighbor is from Liverpool, but he wouldn't know what's happening up there either. :o)

A nice, quick getaway, but we rarely take advantage of it. It usually looks a lot drier than when you were there, even though those mountain tops usually get some snow nearly every year. Not much though; they're in the middle of a desert. L.A. is one big irrigated desert. Try Yosemite next visit - awesome!

  • @Soaptivated I'll remember that! We were there when one day it was beautiful Sun, next it was simply tipping it down and the road got closed that runs through the Canyon :) You might remember it, around middle of March time this year.

  • @jthornley12 @jthornley12 No, can't say that I remember that. The last time I even got close to the canyon, which is only about 2 miles from my house, I went to see if Mt. Gleason had caught on fire. Sure enough, it had & the road was closed at that point, so I couldn't go further. That's the big mountain that is due north of the entrance on Mt. Gleason Ave. I guess I'll have to check it out sometime. But hey...I discovered there are some Yosemite Nat'l. Park videos here. Check them out!

  • @Passiflora101 I will do :)

  • @jthornley12 Oops! I signed in with the wrong account! Sorry! :)

  • @Passiflora101 No problem, I didn't even notice if I'm honest :)

  • beautiful place, so relaxing

  • @8710roberto Indeed ;) Loved it. I hope to go back to California one day.

  • nice, did you see the grand canyon?

  • @LosDTenaces Yeah :) One great experience... :D
