Trilogy is also one of the hardest MK games. I have it for N64 and can never beat it.

I found the hardest MK to be trilogy, but after playing it for thousands of hours that game is easy to beat at the hardest mode and the hardest settings, it never gets old, my favorite remains MK2 and MK: trilogy

The only thing missing from MK3 was Scorpion, otherwise its good. UMK3 was good too but it felt silly with around 5 identical ninjas, 3 identical robots, and 3 identical female ninjas. They essentially went Power Rangers.
