The Dal is the ONlY breed I have ever had the pleasure of being "owned by" and it is the only breed for me!! And YES, they ARE

just like the Dals portrayed in 101 Dalmatians, with their family members! There is no other breed that even comes close IMO. They most certainly can be couch potatoes, mine all have been. And yes, they can do just fine in an apartment. Just walk them daily. If you don't have real experience with these dogs, don't shoot your mouth off against them!

I once had a beautiful Dalmatian Mix dog, she was the most beautiful creature ever and has such a sweet temperment. She was a true carrier for her breed even if she had some other breed mixed in. I loved her to death and when she passed away I cried for days (and still do) because she was like family to me. When I heard the guy talking about his dog who passed away I almost started crying too because I know how he feels.

I had a dalmation and he was the best dog I ever had. He was loyal and super super sweet. He wasn't very active though. He perfered to be lazy around the house and cuddle with me. He was very friendly. No bad temperament at all. Best breed around. get one! you won't regret it.

@crburwell 2 mistakes my friends made with their dalmatian: Do not feed this breed from the table, and when giving him tea, always make him sit until you say he can eat. My friends did not do this and when they came to visit, the dog was trying to grab food from their hands. Also, dalmatians are escape artists. Fence your section meticulously, with wire at the top. Also have your dog inside, or tied up on a long chain when everyone is out.

@crburwell You need to walk this breed for a good hour minimum everyday without fail, with a two-hour walk in the weekend. My friends thought half an hour a day was enough, and that is one reason why their dalmatian has kept on escaping: Because he was bored out of his skull. Dog obedience classes may also be a good investment.

@crburwell be prepared to give them contstant attention! if you go out with your friends a lot, they wont be happy dogs, they love attention. trhey also want to constantly, eat, run and play, so they requiere a lot of energy, play with it loads and train young, and there perfect dogs!:)

I miss my dalmatian :( He got through childhood and was my best friend ever. He always wanted to run and would even run in his sleep all the time. Jasper was his name and he was very sensitive dog. He lived over 13 years old and when he went part of me went with him. I probably should of never been so attached to him but he got me through some shitty times.

I found a stray dalmatian walking down a main road in the middle of a snowstorm in 2008. I chased him for 2 miles and finally caught him. The vet estimated him to be around 8 years old. We adopted him and named him Lucky and he is the sweetest, most loving dog in the world. But he's also very insecure when we leave the house he will cry non stop and bite his tail and paws. Obviously, his previous owner didn't take proper care of him. But we love him <3

They have way too much energy to be cooped up in an apartment.
