Mother Maybelle was my favorite musician and singer from the time I was old enough to know what music is. I can remember being so excited when the Flatt and Scruggs show came on TV and Mother Maybelle was to be the special guest. Thanks for posting the wonderful video!!
Man, I did not know how much Maybelle and June sounded so much alike...even in their mannerisms. Maybelle is the mother of all female sung country music, I just wonder if the stars today know who she is?
I love the auto-harp, zither. It is a German instrument. The film, The Third Man has a zither playing a completely different way, but it was considered innovative at the time.
@danthebassman07 "that ever lived"????? ok she is great, but when will people stop saying nonsense like that??? have you listened to every single female musician or vocalist that walked the earth since music was first made by man? I respect your opinion, but you could have said "of the last hundred years", and actually SHOULD have said "that I've ever listened to", and even that, is only your personal taste
I was half asleep when I first listened to Maybelle speaking and just assumed it was June...But then I was like, "Oh my goodness that's Maybelle, isn't it!" Thanks for posting.
I Believe this would be the 1964 Folk Festival I think , The New Lost City Ramblers
will have something to brag about for as long as they live , imagine , telling people " I accompanied Mother Maybelle Carter " . Keep posting , you are doing great .
Straight to the heart - it doesn't get any better. Commercial wizards, listen and learn.

while she is not more, or Johnny Cash or his wife June, their music will live forever and gave me many hours of inspiration.

Country music's beginning--Mother Maybelle Carter. How did we fall so far from this to Taylor Swift?

@cruztacean Sad what's happened to "country" music, isn't it?!

Maybelle is possibly the greatest female vocalist/musician that ever lived.
Just imagine the doors that this lady has knocked down for women and men for that matter.
I don't think I would be the musician I am today if I hadn't heard my dad playing the Wildwood Flower as a child.
Simply amazing!

Just to think this is where country music began. Modern country music is garbage when you hear beauty such as this.
