And if you don't like Big Jake, John wayne, or anything else that reminds me of grandad and how cool he was in my eyes (I was the 3rd straight grandaughter so i guess he just said at some point, were treating this one as if shes a boy)... i'll hunt ya down and kill ya..ever mothers son of ya..
@cpufightclub Then maybe you should think about moving to France? I'll bet you're pro-baby murdering aren't you? Not ok to kill terrortists but just fine killing unborn babies in their mothers wombs? What would you do with the likes of Hitler or Pol Pot? Mass murderers who attacked innocents. Al Quada? You are anti-war. What would be your solution. I'd like to know if you aren't afraid to comment. As far as faith, that's your personal choice given by GOD, wrong thing to be wrong about.
@cpufightclub No, not at all. Going to answer my questions? If you have no alternative it just is humorous to me. Just curious more than anything. Whatever you wanna do. Liberals bellyache and moan but have few atlernatives to problems but further bitching.
Big jake was such a badass..the repeated "I thought you was dead" line thruout the movie used to seem overdone to me when i saw this as a kid but it's perfect now that i realize Richard Boone's last line ties it all together.. they never would have kidnapped little Jake if they thought Big Jake was still alive.
What an awesome awesome movie. It's the one movie I can watch over and over (and have)...love the music, the storyline and most of all the Duke. I think being a Father, Son or Grandson makes one appreciate it even more. Why does Hollywood put out such crap when they could be striving to make more movies like this? I'll never get it?
This was a fabulous movie though it was a bit brutal and violent. The killing of that little boy and his mother in the beginning was something out of the ordinary for a Western. I still cringe at that scene! And that big guy who had the razor-edge machete was flatout frightening. Not someone I want to meet in a dark alley at night! Neat video!
This and El Dorado are my all time favortie John Wayne movies. Which there is also True Grit..The Shootist..The Cowboys...RIP John Wayne, America's Cowboy!
Now you listen real close you hear, you even shake, shiver or sneeze and I'm gonna blow your head off, no matter what else happens...I'm gonna blow your head off LMAO !
You got em mixed up. "Don't you shake shiver or sneeze," is from The Shootist. "I'm gonna blow your head off" is from Big Jake. But your right. Both quotes make me laugh my ass off.
Saw this when I was 8 at the theater. My mother dropped us off in the parking lot with one dollar each, enough to by a ticked, .25 cents, a coke, popcorn and candy bar.
"Donovan's Reef," co-starring Lee Marvin, is a good comedic venture. "The Sands of Iwo Jima" is a great war film. "The High and the Mighty" is an excellent aviation adventure thriller, and "The Sons of Katie Elder," "El Dorado," "Rio Bravo," and "Rio Lobo" are each good pulp westerns. His best westerns are probably: "Big Jake," "Hondo," "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," "The Searchers," and "The Shootist."
How were these rated. The movie that "made him" was Stagecoach, #1. However the 2 that were "out of role" were The Searchers and The Quiet Man, should those be 1 & 2. Some were just entertainment, other had a "message and theme" (They Were Expnedable/The Cowboys); rate these higher? For my money: 1.) The Quiet Man, 2.) The Cowboys .3) They Were Expendable. 4.) She Wore A Yellow Ribbon and 5.) Big Jake. The Shootist is in a category of its own. No ALAMO! The Longest Day was a bit role.
My absolute favorite John Wayne movie. I raised my kids on movies like this and they've turned out to be very fine young adults. We miss ya' Duke and thanks for your help.
Couldn't agree more. I'd go one step further saying you'd need to be a father, a son and a grandson. All of which I am. This is one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time.
This is my favorite john Wayne movie of all time! Thanks so much for posting this. I remember seeing Big Jake like 3 times when I was 8. I begged my mother to "please please please!" let me go se it agian! As I recall the tickets were 25 cents then for kids.
