Big jake was such a badass..the repeated "I thought you was dead" line thruout the movie used to seem overdone to me when i saw this as a kid but it's perfect now that i realize Richard Boone's last line ties it all together.. they never would have kidnapped little Jake if they thought Big Jake was still alive.

What an awesome awesome movie. It's the one movie I can watch over and over (and have)...love the music, the storyline and most of all the Duke. I think being a Father, Son or Grandson makes one appreciate it even more. Why does Hollywood put out such crap when they could be striving to make more movies like this? I'll never get it?

This was a fabulous movie though it was a bit brutal and violent. The killing of that little boy and his mother in the beginning was something out of the ordinary for a Western. I still cringe at that scene! And that big guy who had the razor-edge machete was flatout frightening. Not someone I want to meet in a dark alley at night! Neat video!

Saw this when I was 8 at the theater. My mother dropped us off in the parking lot with one dollar each, enough to by a ticked, .25 cents, a coke, popcorn and candy bar.

"Donovan's Reef," co-starring Lee Marvin, is a good comedic venture. "The Sands of Iwo Jima" is a great war film. "The High and the Mighty" is an excellent aviation adventure thriller, and "The Sons of Katie Elder," "El Dorado," "Rio Bravo," and "Rio Lobo" are each good pulp westerns. His best westerns are probably: "Big Jake," "Hondo," "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," "The Searchers," and "The Shootist."

How were these rated. The movie that "made him" was Stagecoach, #1. However the 2 that were "out of role" were The Searchers and The Quiet Man, should those be 1 & 2. Some were just entertainment, other had a "message and theme" (They Were Expnedable/The Cowboys); rate these higher? For my money: 1.) The Quiet Man, 2.) The Cowboys .3) They Were Expendable. 4.) She Wore A Yellow Ribbon and 5.) Big Jake. The Shootist is in a category of its own. No ALAMO! The Longest Day was a bit role.

That is the beauty of the movie and the times. Right and wrong simple as that no shades of gray or half right is ok. You took out the bad guys and did the right thing, end of story. You confronted evil and gave them no quarter.
