Though I prefer the 1960's version (you despite the fact that director did change the lines while this one is verbatim) I think Baz did a splendid version and depicted the violence really well while the other version really makes it comes across as no really wanted to kill each other (at least Michael York's Tybalt is more sympathetic as it seems his Tybalt didn't mean to kill Mercutio). I do think the jokes get lost in this version though.

And the "whoever" that sings the song is Des´ree, a very famous singer in middle-late 90s, with classic songs like "Life" and "You gotta be". Search for them in Youtube. Im sure you know them. This woman is amazing! :-)

@nighthorse17 That would have been impossible. This movie is from 1996 as you can see in the title 10 years BEFORE Beyonce( who was still a kid in 1996 and had not made it yet) recorded her version. The lady singing is Des'ree the original singer and the person who wrote this song.
