  • i don't need another friend - time to feed the monster - comfort is a mystery... powerful stuff

  • I would kill to have a clear audio file of this very recording...love this version...

  • Is Maynard wearing a wig?

  • @paulv1973 So it's even more fascinating to watch if he loses it during dancing like that. :D

  • @paulv1973 He often does with APC, to try and distinguish between his Tool persona and A Perfect Circle persona.

  • Saw them last night and am still reeling! Best concert I've been to in a long long time! Incredible, beautiful, amazing, awesome....

  • just saw em in san diego two days ago. Vocals were awesome. I'm a huge perfect circle fan AND tool fan. in concert, it's gotta be Tool. Harmony and singing while driving down the freeway,.... it's all Perfect Circle.

  • Beautiful! Your video is amazing! I felt like I was at the concert again! The BEST CONCERT I'VE EVER SEEN! Maynard James Keenan is unbelievable. Thanks

  • thumbs up if you saw them at bluesfest in ottawa 2011

  • Seeing them this Sunday! Going to blow my MIND!

  • George Washington: 1798 Acknowledged that Illuminati activity had come to the USA: “It is not my intention to doubt that the doctrine of the Illuminati and the principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am.”

  • no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.”

  • President Andrew Jackson: 1829-1837 “You are a den of vipers! I intend to rout you out, and by the Eternal God I will rout you out. If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution before morning.”

  • Going to see APC for the first time in Aug!! Maynard is a fucking genius...

  • @mikeredsoxfan15 same here. Aug 9th. you?

  • @rayneroseren Aug 1st! 4 days away!

  • @mikeredsoxfan15 Gonna see them for the first time in 3 days in St. Paul! Fucking psyched!

  • @BatesMaster515 HELLS YEA!!! me too!!! Its gonna be the one of the best concerts ever!!!

  • @MrTool86 Dude I've been waiting for the 6th since the minute they announced tour dates!

  • All I can say is after being a junkie for 6 years...this album really did help save my life!!!

  • All I can say is after being a junkie for 6 years...this album really did help save my life!!!

  • never gets old this amazing song.

  • Is there a vocal playback ? He sings really well live. I love that band

  • @tomek9619 Maynard sings well live all the time man, and Tool always play amazingly live. ApC are no different :)

  • Honestly you have to self interpret any song James has ever made. Who gives a fuck what other people have to say about it. This song touches me on another level. :)

  • What a amazing song!

  • who cares what this song is about. if the song was sang in Spanish or some kind of alien language in general it would make more sense to be honest. The words are irrelevant. Let it speak for itself.

  • @forgotthewords Lyrics are a part of music and can be an art form. I don't see the "honesty" behind a song making "more sense" if it were sung in a language that isn't your native language. What I do see is that your logic may be that people should just listen to it and enjoy it. Music is subjective and can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways, not just the ways you may enjoy it.

  • @jdesfos87 Well I'm a songwriter and i actually quit a band because my lyrics weren't weighted as much as their musical attributes. I agree with "Lyrics are a part of music and can be an art form." But i listen to Pitty and I can't understand portuguese at all, but i LOVE that band. It might heighten my affection for the song if i knew what she was saying but either way they still transcend language. It's more of the air of the vocals and the emotion behind it is what i meant i guess. :)

  • this song is indeniable about turtle sex

  • dear god if i hear one more person say that the whole album is about drug addiction i'm gonna disassociate from apc fans. 4Degrees by tool is more than anal sex, Stinkfist is more than fisting, and The Package is more than needing the next dose.

  • @Snakepit4321 get a real friend, no one gives a fuck

  • @Snakepit4321 Ahaha, j/k, man...but really.

  • to me this song speaks of ambition and losing yourself to get what you want.

  • Give this to me

  • Epic

  • This song gives me strenght to be stronger than the craving. No snow today.

  • I'll overdose on this song.

  • the last minute is probably the sweetest music Ive ever heard...

  • awesome.. there was a time when this song described my existence..

im just happy I can enjoy the music now....

  • GIVE THIS TO ME!!!

  • It's about the depths that you will go to seek what you crave. How much of yourself will you let go of for this substance. It's written by only someone who truly knows what addiction is. "Comfort is a mystery, crawling out of my own skin." Can't live with myself without the influence and I'll do whatever it takes to change that. Lie, cheat, and steal. Beautiful song.

  • Healing for the soul

  • Maynard is GOD

  • so awesome!!!!

  • I love how MJK hides in the shadows when he sings...

  • @GuitaristAidan yeah, he's prefers not being the center of attention. he has said he has a hard time replicating the emotion with lights in his face. from watching him perform, you can tell it's an emotional journey for him, and he prefers that space. i'm not a maynard worshipper or anything, i just get the impression he is very true to himself, and that deserves utmost respect. cheers!

  • This song is so well written

  • this has to be one of the best live per...wait it's BETTER than the album version...something to do with the way that he presents his voice...more harmonic, and less destructive (until about 4:08 into the song...) great live recording of the song...

  • I think this song is about a guy trying to get hooked up at a shady dealers place. The album is almost chronological. This is the first song when he's still trying to get his fixes.

  • a.p.c coming to seattle babay!!! ive never seen them before either :-)

  • @2001lateralus Good luck getting tickets. Scalpers got to em fast. Mother fuckers. I was gonna drive 20 hours to see that shit. But not at 300 bucks a ticket.

  • @jimbobanalbeats are you serious? 300 per ticket? scalpers really are a mother fuckers!

  • @tijbajmex Yeah. Shit makes me genuinely sad. I've been waiting for these guys to get back together for like 6 fucking years.

  • @jimbobanalbeats yeah but there are rumors that they will play again the next year so we still have a chance!

  • @tijbajmex I kind of doubt that soon. Tool is writing music right now and I would imagine after they release their record they'll be touring. Which is cool too I guess, but I've already seen them like 5 times. Cross your fingers good sir.

  • @jimbobanalbeats : dude...MJK has been working on an album for both APC and Tool.

  • @jimbobanalbeats i got my tickets to mer de noms and 13th step the morning they went onsale. i slept in a tent outside of the box office (1st in line) along w/ about 45 ppl behind me. dont get to dicouraged about next year though. i just read an interview w/ J. chancellor saying the album most likely wont be out till late next year. while that does suck, it also leaves room for some more a.p.c touring.

  • @2001lateralus Right on man. Congrats on the tickets. I'm seriously envious of you. Enjoy the show man.

  • I seem to think this song is literally about someone pursuing a thirteenth step encounter. I've been there myself, and I know how selfish it feels. I did "smile and drop the cliche" of program talk to get what I craved from a female member. It's amazing how this song just takes me right into that mind space again, just out of regret instead. Love this album way too much.

  • @lingerlightly does the 13th step sexual advance thing basically mean seducing a newcomer to the AA program who is emotionally vulnerable? using your position as an old-timer of the program to get them to trust you kinda thing?

  • @OwnedRL Basically yes. Vulnerability is the big part as people come into the program quite broken. Oddly enough, it has been suggested that the founder Bill struggled with this to a great extent.

  • I hate how people are just walking around in the middle of this song. I wouldn't be able to move at all. =O

  • The inherent weakness that exists within the dependence of desire on the structural integrity of a personal relationship, of any kind. Give and take. Gain & loss and its endless cycle. Its a beautiful & painful reminder of this small truth, a first step on the long road to the slow acceptance of loss. Imo. Or it could be about a visit to the Sperm Back. Your choice.

  • i saw apc in 2003 a week before the thirteenth step album came out so i heard the album live before the cd. it was one of the best concerts ive ever seen!

  • When he is singing, he is living his music

  • Thats what we call world language "music"

  • If I could only have a single song to which to listen, this would be it.

  • i cream every time i watch this

  • wow

  • One of the best live performances ever !

  • i have to agree..i always thought this song was about sex addiction.

  • @selly101 The song is about opiate addiction. Very well done i might add!

  • 'time to feed the monster, i dont need another friend.'

    sooo good.

  • this song is about heroin additiction end of story.......if you havent been there you wouldnt know. thepackage is what you call the smack, the monster is your addiction. Its probably the one of the most truthfully poetic representations of the desperation of the heroin addict ever conveyed in popular song. can it also be a metaphor for a host of other soul wrenching calamities---perhaps--maynard writes dually as well.

  • @rob13step

for me i always interpreted this as a song about lust. Where he's fucking some girl he doesnt care about and hates himself for being such a cunt but knows he ultimately is a slave to his lust

  • @rob13step look man only someone with a cock for a head truly thinks their is one definition for a songs meaning ...haha reckon your a smart cunt now you putrid bastard.

  • the drummer josh freeze writing is the shit!

  • That was a fucking fantastic vocal performance.

  • mand maynard keeps going and going...

  • Wow, beautiful. First time I`ve seen this live since the Academy gig in Birmingham 2004

  • A Perfect Song

  • chills every god damn time. tool was amazing live but this is one band i hope more than anything would go back on tour. need to see them before i die.

  • could listen to this 24/7 ... totaly agree with Tyranny82...a masterpiece indeed...

  • Absolutely my favorite song from these guys. BUT it's unfortunate that the crowd energy turned into a tempo increase for this performance...kind of killed that beautiful dark, brooding touch that completes this song.

  • I cant really hear the bass line? Is that a function of the recording or the acoustics/mixing of the performance?

  • @jaybot22 its probably the microphone on the camera. If it is the live mixing then they've done a bad job XD

  • This song is totally about manipulation to get the object of your desire. Doesn't matter what it is.

And when he says "peripheral on the package", he means that he can pretend to be into the situation, but he never keeps his eyes off the prize. He always keeps in mind what he came for and everything he does goes towards getting it, then quickly leaving.

  • im hoping for some new apc soon

  • good luck with that. As much as I would LOOVE to see that. Maynard's most likely never going back to APC. They signed a 3 record deal, and they completed it. They all moved on.

  • Thats not entirely true. Maynard and Billy have both stated that they would love to go back into the studio and record more songs for APC. They also stated that the songs most likely would be released only online either through Itunes or something else. I know me personally I would rather have them tour again and be able to see them live more so then having them release another Album. Seeing all these vids of their live shows make me really sad I never got a chance to see them live.

  • ...yeah, and that 3rd album was forced? a cover album? I love em but... really?

  • @RowJimmyRo the whole album was a cover???

  • @PuReNiRvANA1 eMOTIVe is Thirteenth Step has only one cover and that's "The Nurse Who Loved Me"

  • @tweninger there on tour right now with out paz

  • @PuReNiRvANA1 I love paz!

  • its called the thirteen step... I guess they missed a step in NA

  • sounds like it to me anyways. i could be wrong but i like heroine. Fitz perfectly. and either way whatever it be about still the coolest fucking song Snakepit4321. cant dislike it cause some closemindedness to hear someone elses thoughts. music is about getting someone to feel and react. if it didnt make you feel somthing or make you react to it in some way than its shitty music. period. enjoy what makes you feel. godamned robots

  • heroine

  • WHAT!! u here the scream on that guy, i had no clue he could get that heavy, and im a big apc and tool fan, just goies to show u , u need to see a band live to rly know them

  • how could you be a tool/apc fan and not realize he could get 'that heavy'? silly comment.

  • well i dont watch live concerts on youtue too much, i think it ruins that awe u get when seeing bands live, it surprised me cuz the album sounds somewhat different, u no?

  • Not really. You don't have to paraphrase what maynard says about live concerts versus video either.

  • i think its their best song

  • The song is about manipulation and using people to get whatever you want, whether it's drugs, sex, or what have you. Great song.

  • @KVespaziani Exactly right, what this guy said :3

  • Dudes, the whole album is about drug addiction and the shite that goes with it. This song package is about getting your fix and how you dont want to associate with the junkies but you have to, and you will, and in any shape to get your fix.

  • @burkers dude, you're the one making the album about drug addiction.

It's always up to the person to interpret songs and their meanings. To me this song is about sex addiction.

  • @thealanscott27 your right, but the band/mjk has said that the album is supposed to be the steps of AA

  • @burkers Dude, WE DO NOT CARE. I Think so many things, and feel so many different levels of my inner self through their art. Let it speak to me, and quit trying to act knowledgable for figuring out what it means to them. It makes me angry that you fucking trolls pidgeon hole this amazing music.

  • @burkers such a great concept album, all the way from "clever got me this far" to "i choose to live." poetic.

  • @burkers

your opinion but probably not true

  • @xRichardbersteinx It actually is true

  • @burkers this song does'nt sound like it about someone trying to get a fix, it sounds like someone trying to get a buttie call.

  • @burkers duh haha 13th step? like the one after the first 12... to be honest i had this album for years and knew what it was all about but didn't make that specific connection right away, with the steps and what not. i like to think of each song pertaining to a different step, somehow. i don't have any solid theories about those connections but hey i just feel the tunes man

  • I think this song is about greed or obsession. "Lie to get what I came for, lie to get just what I need." Possibly an addiction to drugs or something else where you use your "clever" and "tricky" to get it.

  • its life man. big fucking lie....

  • most of maynards songs are so long

  • I think the song is about people and how they use other people IMO.

    Amazing song tho.

  • more than just music, definitely a masterpiece.....

  • @Tyranny82 absolutely

  • I also thought it was about trying to sleep with someone and tricking them into it

  • To Snakepit4321

I thought the song was about getting pussy. Maynard always leaves songs to be interpreted in more then one way though. So don't get all worked up thinking the song can only be about a drug addict. Maybe it's about a sex addict. Think for yourself, question authority.

  • the 13th step isnt....relapse.its when a an already existing aa member dates a new aa member before there sobriety is solid..

  • i mean come on...the nurse who loved me...how could that be about anything else?

  • this song really is about drugs though. I mean, the name 13th step refers to the one after the 12th in AA. Do you know what the 13th step is?.............relapse

  • Why is there such a big obsession with people on youtube trying to boast how much more they know about a band than "the other guy"? Especially by looking up what songs were originally wrote about? Thats not the meaning of music and it needs to stop. You should be able to relate a song to your own life experiences. It speaks to you more, therefore has MORE meaning to you other than what MAYNARD wrote about. Bravo dwdrummer, you just ruined my favorite APC song for me you fuckhead.

  • Can't keep your own idea of a song? that's too bad. sorry man.

  • I do, until faggots like you ruin if for me. Now everytime i listen to the lyrics i think about what it truly was wrote about thanks to you.

  • Flame on.. ok retard. I have control over my emotions, but when you EXPLAIN what the song means, its not fucking unnatural to hear the lyrics Lie and smile to get whats mine, and think, oh yeah that fucker on youtube said its about an addict because now the lyrics make perfect sense to that. thats how you ruined it. there is no mystery left to the song. and if you can tell me that you hear this song as something different, then your full of shit.

  • Mine mine mine! Yeah!!!

Love Maynard, It's so fucking hot!

  • just great <3

  • so awesome

  • that wig is hilarious

  • Listening to the level of spirit and emotion driving their songs is truly a rare experience. I think anyone who has faced and lived through addiction can identify with this song. Simply beautiful..

  • addiction?? wtf are you talking about.. this song is about getting pussy.. lol

  • Damn... wish I could have the posibility to go to an APC concert.

They are just awesome...there is nothing to prove.

  • BEt ol' Billy was pretty happy when Maynard said he'd do the vox...could you imaging how different they'd be if Fred Durst got the gig?

  • fred durst??????????? what the???? explain lol

  • Fred Durst???

  • can we all just look at Josh crushing his drum set! that guy is the man!

  • he beats the hell out of it doesnt he

  • Josh is amazing!!! I wish he would of stayed in NIN!!!

  • I was listening to this song earlier today, it's all about the drums.

  • all about the vocals <3

  • This is my favorite song by APC

    Maynard totally rocks !

  • maynard i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuu

  • I LOVE Maynard going nuts during the "mine" part... SO epic...

  • temon :)

  • I love how Billy just busts into it at 4:09

  • You guys have had a hard day! Now now lets listen to the music....

  • yeah, you're right; APC is what matters, not this motherfucker

  • no matter how hard you try, you wont win this internet argument. no one ever does. everyone that argues just looses.

  • yeah, you're right, it's just a waste of time.

  • i dont like to compare Tool to A Perfect Circle. they're both two completely different bands playing two different styles, built upon different foundations with individual meaning. but both are totally awesome and should live forever...

  • yeah man well said

  • I saw this shit LIVE in Indianapolis, bitches!!

  • One word: Awesome.
