Awesome stuff!!! I like how this aircraft came into service back in the 80's; with the matching background music, although cheesy, compliments this video well:)
@GarryHarriman Yhh xd. Plus also your building warplanes it helps to make them look badass its just common sense lol, obviously the grey their painted now has its purpose granted, but thats a little bit like buying a ferrari and painting it brown lol
I wished I could honestly say that I THOUGHT a particular A/C was the BEST of them all. BUT In reality I find that ALL of the European Fighter Bombers from The GR4 to the Swedish Viggen and including the American F-15E Strike Eagles F-16 Falcons etc, Deserve the recognition that without them / crews there would be NO United States and a Free Europe. They have stood the watch and guarded against the tyranny of Communism from all points of Asia. and around the world.
The Tornado is one of the fastest flying planes at sealevel and can carry very much ammunition. In a book it says: "Tornade can pack more weight than any other plane, expect the B1-B, which is much bigger"
Thanks for posting. I remember seeing my first Tornado at Luke AFB in the summer of 1983 while they doing their hot weather testing. Awesome aircraft.
Umm to be honest it wouldn't surprise me although i could of sworn it was a Tornado. It was a long time ago though. Maybe we are both right and are thinking of different vids? :)
I think the only reason why the Tornado was a success was because we didn't fight the Russians and the weapon systems on it are 2nd to none despite the actual jet being inferior to others.
The Tornado was "Top Notch" at the time in terms of Avionics and tactics, but it did suffer realatively high loses durig the initial phase. This was because it was tasked with attacking Airfields with the JP233 weapon requiring a direct over flight. Laser weapons weren't used by the Tornado until later in the air campaign after the Tiald Pod was rushed into service, intitially with the Buccaneer, then the Tornado self designating.
If the west had gone up against the USSR, then extreme low level would have been the only option when trying to penitrate soviet air defences, and it would have been costly. However low level tactics worked for the Harrier force during the Falklands campaign, which is why the RAF used it in 91. Also the JP233 Airfield denial weapon required a low level pass to deliver it, as did the Durandal weapon used by the French and US. The Tornado is good, it just had the hardest of tasks.
The UK had the best aircraft for the risky job of attacking the airfirields, the US chiefs knew it was risky but they didn't have a jet that was as good as the tornado at what it does, so they asked the British to do it.
@29Gixxer The BAC TSR2's incorporating low level bombing concept was the inspiration behind the USA's F111 creation, introduction into service and the basing of large numbers of them in the UK.
2.the devastating potential of low level bombing had been the main reason behind Russian lobbying of the f111's removal from Britain and it's eventual removal from service. The Russians respected the Tornados/F111 aircraft and did everything it could to reduce the threat via various arms treaties
would you tell me , Russian aircraft that compares with Tornado?, is similar to Mig-23, but Mig 23 is an older generation, .maybe SU-35 ?, are The tornados superiors than the Russian airplanes?..
Excellent film..........where did you get it from.....The Tornado landing at (3:00) was P06 from Warton.........Lancashire.. I worked on it.......an its been in aGerman outside museum since about 1990..However.....Brilliant vid.
I am soooooo envious of these guys, they have the best job in the world.
I get Tornado's flying low level over my house at least a few times a week and I always get goosebumps the sound of those two engines going full whack is awesome
Total respect to these guys as well for helping keep our country and world a safer place as well
you was a backseater or you saw it from your house??? i loved also the tornado. i was on a spotterday last friday and get 400 pictures. the spotterday was on the reccesqadron in germany/jagel
hey nice video. i am argentinian but i admire the british army specially the raf and their planes like the av8 harrier and this beauty.congratulations keep doing it
Please do tell me, what actual facts or evidence do you have to back up that ridiculous comment you just made. Actually, don't bother as you clearly haven't any-seeing as it's common knowledge today's GR.4's are old GR.1's (which may I add, are still serving) and that the only RAF Tornado lost in armed action since 1991 was in 2003 during a blue-on-blue incident.
You are a buffoon. The war is effectively over. Stop living in the era of laughably vague propaganda, go away, and get a life.
But like who have we fought against since 1991 that was a worthy air to air opponent, operation desert storm was like walk in walk out... second Iraq war wasn't even proper...
Iraq in '91 and Serbia in '94 had the Mig-29, which could hold it's own. However American airpower was more tasked with dealing with the these despite getting our FRS.1 Sea Harrier cleared to engage such aircraft. I believe our aircraft have superior BVR engagement facilities, but that's my opinion.
The only real threat, and the one that saw at least an F-16 and a sea harrier shot down, was MANPADS. This bloke made falsified claims, no Tornado was ever shot down in 1999.
Fantastic footage. I used to work on the early Tornado prototypes at Warton Lancashire and there is some footage of some of the old jets on there. If you dont mind me asking, where did you get the film?
I remember during the 1st gulf war that a number of these planes were shot down. In comparison to the other plannes, I think the tornado was given more risky orders. Awesome plane.
"powerful aircraft, saved thousands of American arschhole" Like most comments on youtube this one was petty, nationalistic, and completely wrong factually. It was just in German. Thanks for posting.
Why is that though? I looked at this anders110's profile, and he's agot a Swiss McDonell Douglass F/A-18 as his avatar. Does this guy even know it's an American plane?
I hope Americans now realize just how prejudiced a lot of the world is.

Yeah, Germany and Britain can be proud of it.

I Believe that was actually a F117A Nighthawk of the USAF that dropped a laser guided bomb down a ventilation shaft!

Yes...low level tactics did not work out for us so we did what the USAF were doing I believe and started to drop the munitions from higher altitudes.
This is why I contest people who say the Tornado was a great success because it wasn't really :)
Had we of gone up against Russia we would of suffered, Low level bombing is a flawed tactic. Thank fuck for the EF.
Still...I'd love to go up in one.
