  • This is the kind of shit that comes on late and night and you think to yourself, "Aw damn I fell asleep and wound up in the fucking Twilight Zone....AGAIN."

  • The guy freefalling is amazing. "Big air thrills STILL give me chills!"

  • as much as I like the series and understand why it was the way it was, I didn't care for the tone shift from a single bizarre serial attacker to a force that could destroy humanity's ego. It was still worth watching as most of the late Kon's stuff was.

  • @dbsommers1 But that's the point -- the deeper you delved, the more menacing it became. Almost Lovecraftian in a way, actually.

  • my favorite episode is the one with the three people who are trying to kill themselves it was great even though it had nothing to do with the rest of the series at first it was just comedy relief well at least until the end it was. at that point it got even better.

  • think you can upload it in HD?

  • this is on of the oldest vids on YT

  • This made me miss Satoshi Kon, never again will see his unique and amazing style...

  • Good God... even after all this time THE OPENING ALONE is enough to give me chills. This was one of the best anime to date! RIP Satoshi Kon, your work will be remembered

  • @thehawkcbm what do you mean "one of the best anime"?!....Either I missed the point or it INDEED was the fuckin worst anime humans ever made!!

  • @FOTARAStheGREEK Yeah. Paranoia Agent really did kick ass. Satoshi kon. We will miss him *salutes*

  • I have to say it is the most horrifying film I've ever watched. It talks about how human live on paranoid just for a bare escape from reality but eventually compelled to face the ruthlessness. Also the topic covered pressure of society, idolatry, religion and suicide. Although it has a happy end, I feel more terrible even than watch "Requiem for a dream"

  • Still gives me chills every time I see Li'l Slugger laughing.

  • R.I.P Satoshi Kon. Most Brilliant Anime Director Ever. Thank you for giving us such wonderful works.

  • I like to think the destruction all around them is a metaphor for our lives, Theres all smiles on the outside but we in reality we are vulnerable and drowning in our own egos.

  • It's about mob mentality, and the fragile thing we call the human mind. ALL of us are insane- and each character I think is meant to be an extreme picture of our own thoughts, or the darkness inside of us. Lil Slugger is our fear. It would be like going to an elementary school and making up a disease. Within a week, 6 people would have it, (even though it's fake) and if it was done well enough, it would spread and spread. Point being, while we are fragile, our percpetions are very powerful.

  • This was one of the greatest anime's I've ever seen. I watched it on Adult Swim, though I didn't watch every episode, and years later, a friend of mine let me borrow his (he had them all on dvd) I've sat and read a lot of posts, and I want to let you guys know of a theme I thought of when watching:

Fears have power. For me, the big eye opening episode is when the detective's wife is talking about Lil slugger, and he is there, growing stronger and weaker sentece by sentence.

  • The clouds are moving abnormally fast when the girl is standing on the roof at the beginning but in the end they are moving normally when Lil' Slugger is seen standing in a paradise.

  • I've lost interest in anime but one day i may go back to this one. It always fascinated me :) definitely not the norm for an anime which i loved!

  • tiene muy buena calidad para ser un video del 2005 o.o

  • JESUS, this is disconcerting.

  • hmmm a people laughing creepy :D

  • I remember growing up on this~

  • Thumbs up if you used to smoke some weed right before watching this show on [adult swim]

  • I need Lil Slugger in my life. where is he when you need him?

  • @palmdaleJAWA

    Behind you.

  • I never under stood anything about this anime... not even the opening. But I watched this when I was a kid so maybe I will understand it now?

  • i need to watch the whole thing again cuz i watched it as a kid. adult swim! lol. but now they took all the good anime that built its popularity

  • i dont undertsand this anime but ahts wwhy i like it

  • this anime is so weird, but i still like it

  • strange but amazing anime! :)

  • Oh how I miss the time when Adult Swim actually aired good shows.

  • @DrStrangefate I Know.... miss the old days

  • @DrStrangefate They still air reruns of Cowboy Bebop and FLCL though! At 2AM....

  • @Emandudeguyperson

    Yeah...when I'm at work.

  • R.I.P Satoshi Kon

  • This brings back nice memories...

  • imagine watching this high.

    Hint: its awesome

  • Watched every episode when it was still aired on Adult Swim, best anime I've ever seen, personally.

  • This is my favorite anime opening ever.

I remember the first time I saw it, I didn't know what the anime was about, but after hearing the song, I instantly felt very disturbed and unsettled. Like something wasn't quite right. In fact something was horribly wrong.

Amazing opening to an amazing show.

  • By any chance, would this be Satoshi Kon's?

  • @boomkrakatoa It is : )

    R.I.P to him.

  • cocain the anime...

  • haha man i miss the old adult swim

  • after seeing some of comments i remember were i saw this anime it was on the kick ass old school adult swim man i miss those days

  • Amazing series, a sad thing Satoshi Kon passed away- truely was an entertainer a genious.

  • freaky 0-o nightmares 4ever -_-

  • 妄想代理人

  • i like this theme...a little creepy but awsome way!!!

  • R.I.P Satoshi Kon

  • Epic morning alarm

  • This song really wakes you up. XD

  • WTF? never in my life i will lose time in see this ¬¬

    yaomig downloading

  • I remember this show used to scare the crap out of me. Just the opening made me not want to watch it. The fact that it would only show in the middle of the night, when it was dark and I was alone, wasn't very encouraging. But now that I am older, I think I'll watch it. For some reason I never forgot about this show, even though I never watched it completely. (which is weird because I tend to forget a lot of the anime's that I watch)

  • Hirasawa, what a magnificent bastard.

  • I'd like to think this show teaches the many flavors of insanity in the world.

Yes, what I said makes almost no sense, yet some sense, if any.

Or maybe its there to mess with your head? Its been a long day today, for all of us, I'd like to think so.

  • also litle slugger seems to be getting the last laugh at a place where everyone's lives seems to be involved at. xD

  • @ilvanime01, well its hard to explain every single scene in the opening, but ill try my best to give a few examples:

    1. Its pretty obvious why the 2 boys and the personality disorder lady are together, since they are always involved in each others lives and hurting one another.

    2. Maniwa with his hands in his pocket calmly whily diving from the sky, yeah tells you a little about his characer..

    3. Taeko is underwater because she wnated to commit suicide by drowining.

  • Can someone explain the opening to me? I know there's meaning to it, just need verification on what...I'm sure each individual scene has meaning

  • @ilvanime01 I'm not sure myself... but here would be my interpretation:

Humans can often be oblivious to the things going on around them, often putting on a fake smile so as to live in society. They will sit around while their surrounding suffocate the life out of living people (including themselves) or the world around them. Such ignorance allows for a events to repeat (in a cycle) which is unknown to the laughing characters.

  • @AcresceNtRMoonT I've never thought of it that way before....Wow. I get it. I think you're right. I thought there was some meaning to the scenes too, but I wasn't sure what it was. Thanks! Your interpretation makes alot of sense!

  • @AcresceNtRMoonT, yup. It's called, "saving face".

  • 2012 is fast approaching. Hahhhahahahaa!!!

This was such an amazing show. The ending was quite sad:(

  • i am a nerd too ... hope there are more anime like this ...

  • I was 10 when it was uploaded, so young and so was YouTube

  • Pure chaos ...The celebration of madness has never been so beautifully captured .

  • Wow, uploaded in 2005? This video is OLD.

  • thumbs up if this shit made you take a deep breath haha

  • @PollyPetron To be honest, I only watch mature shows for mature people such as myself. Maybe you'll understand the finer aspects of life in a few years, junior.

  • @PollyPetron

  • I have this show to thank for shaping my views about humanity and contributing to the way I write stories. I owe it more than any other show or movie I've seen and its lesson is something I'll always remember; not just that lying and pretentiousness will amount to more lies and pretension and that they will catch up to you eventually, but that everyone is a vulnerable person and deep down, we're all just a miserable pile of secrets - so why pretend?

  • @BigDogJang0 >>' I watched this so many years ago back then all I got from it was, "Whaaaaaaaat... theeeee... fuuuuuuck.... I am so lost yet I can't stop watching OHMYGODWHATISTHISMADNESS." o_o Shaped me in a slightly different way, needless to say. I doubt my response would be much different after a few years of growing. XD

  • @15Anime4Ever15

I was about 14 years old when I first saw this series. What about you?

  • @BigDogJang0 If we don't pretend then it wouldn't be a secret.

  • I also love this show, but I don't feel that you fully understand the full meaning behind it. Its not just about lies provoking lies and secrets, it represents the fact that paranoia, in an of itself is used as an excuse to be paranoid in todays society, for example, the fear that the economy will fall as an excuse not to do anything about the fear of global warming.

  • And that the paranoia brought on by a sing action, dose more damage to the world than the action itself, such as our reaction to the swine flue, in which the vaccine we created killed more people that the flue itself. weather you agree with the examples or not is aside from the point, the fact is, the best thing about this directors movies is that you can analyze the different meaning behind what the writer is trying to say. I would be interested in hearing your opinion on this.

  • @BigDogJang0 I think that was why everyone was laughing in the intro.

  • 0:24

"Look how many fucks I give"

  • Susumu Hirasawa is the best.

  • hmmm reoccuring themes of earthquakes, tsunamis, and nuclear bombing

  • I feel like im flying...ahhh eeee nahh eee ooooo wooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Man I miss watching this. :,) The illustration, storyline, and the characters were beautiful. Not to mention this awesome opening as well. How I wish this would return to tv again.

  • O_O What fresh hell is this?

  • I know they're supposed to be laughing, but it looks like everyone is having a seizure.... or getting electrocuted.

  • Wtf did i just watch?

  • This has got to be my favorite show opening of all time.

  • ......im screwed for life.

  • I love 0:38 to 0:56

  • looks like there having a wonderful time :P

  • The first episode I watched of this anime was about that woman that had multiple personalities or something... All I remember was, she had sex with a bunch of guys than was hit by little slugger.

  • what an odd mix of creepy but still kinda nostalgic this opening

  • top ten of my fav. anime

  • creepiest opening ever. but this is one badass anime.

  • Just found out what this anime was called, cause I remember when i was a kid adult swim was on, I saw an episode of it, and I can only remeber highlights of the episode and parts of the opening. ahh, childhood :D

  • 空に見事なキノコの雲☁

  • @ferretyui Yeah that part... I think that since he was so strung out on drugs he actually raped that little girl while her parents were tied up. Even though it doesnt directly say it it seems like its implied since he tells all of his prostitutes to call him daddy as well.

  • [*]

  • I just realized, Yo-yo from JSRF looks a lot like Lil' Slugger.....

  • @JimenezJo2 LOL The boondocks is amazing with all their nigga moments haha. But yeah all this other new ish is super lame.

  • i miss the old adult swim :c now all i see is "nigga moments" and some gay brothers with their own show

  • @JimenezJo2

    ROTFL

boondocks is awesome and so is venture bros lol!!. If you got a problem with adultswim just go to CrunchyRoll.

    simple

  • @JimenezJo2 O: boondocks is the shit k? :> lol

  • @JimenezJo2 did you just call the venture brothers gay? they're not gay alright they molested by sergeant hatred but that wasn't their fault. And the show is pretty damn good. Paranoia agent was fucking looney tunes

  • @JimenezJo2 ahahaha lmfaooooooo man

  • @JimenezJo2 Boondocks is an amazing show that mixes biting social commentary, pop culture, and anime references into a completely ironic and yet realistic setting. Tim and Eric is a stupidly funny show for stoners, hilarious in its simplicity. If you want to rag on Adult Swim atleast pick shows which suck like family guy. Plus its not Adult Swim's fault that people don't watch Anime as much anymore. I blame oversaturation of shows like Bleach.

  • @PoonReturns Please dont use the word ironic, and while Tim and Eric was okay for a few weeks, it's past its expiration date. it was fresh and an interesting change of pace from the rest of the Adult Swim line up, but it's carried on too long. Any show is a show for stoners, including static, color bars, and an unplugged TV. The rest I can agree with, but Adult Swim does show the "nigga moments" episodes a bit more than they should, so cut him some slack for that.

  • @Kapangdazz I love how prudish virgins are so quick to attack potheads, hell, most probably make far more money than you for far less work, real morons huh? They probably have far more active social lives than any weeaboo, what did a drug dealer fuck the girl you have a crush on or are you such a sheep as to demonize a plant which just so happens to possess a naturally occurring chemical, besides Boondocks and TaE are shit compared to some of the funnier shows on AS (Squidbillies)

  • @Nisailee Did you really just say SQUIDBILLIES was funny? Lmao you need to lay off the pot.

  • @IxIPaincakesIxI LMFAO I KNOW RIGHT? That show is awful.

  • @PoonReturns

excellently worded, yours should be a top comment.

  • @PoonReturns Boondocks could be funny, but I can't defend a show that passes off showing a guy throwing up in reverse as a joke.. lol

  • @JimenezJo2 Fuck you hate on the gay brother`s show but not Boondocks that`s the only good show on there

  • this animé was fucking scary and pervert. but it was the best thing ive eva seen.

  • @FakeStrawberry how was it perverted? It's definitely not an ecchi in anyway...

  • @Valerius2316 no, but some scenes are like.... you know.

  • @FakeStrawberry really? Weeeelll....guess my kiddie eyes missed a few things...*ahem* I think I'll rewatch this series...heh heheh

  • @Valerius2316 It's was everywhere. o_O

  • I have seen a lot of F'ed up shows and movies but this is the only one I really had no idea what was going on and just could not watch it because of that.

  • @TheKingteshay idk it used to scare me when I was a kid. If I watched it now I would probably be slightly ok lol. Im a scary girl aha im 16 too

  • We will never see a collaboration between Satoshi Kon and Junji Ito :(

  • is this show worth watchin?

  • @OPL21stJS Yes. It is very much worth watching.

  • @OPL21stJS It's definitly worth watching because it's pretty fascinating actually : when you start watching 1 episode, you start looking for the next one ,and again...

  • It's sad that Satoshi Kon left so early :/

  • This looks like a remix of Paprika opening sequence.

  • @RareVDO I was thinking it was kinda Paprika'esque myself.

  • @amadeus999

Turns out Paranoia Agent was directed by Satoshi Kon back in 2004, and the project right after that was Paprika (2006).

  • This one's up next on my To Watch list... alright.

  • I watched this show when I was, like, eight. I was alone in bed at night and I thought the kid with the dented baseball bat was at my window. I thought I saw his shadows. ):

  • BEST ANIME EVER

  • naaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiaaaaaaaaa

  • don't worry^^ this was even aired around midnight. it's like i didn't even know if the show was real or was a nightmare everytime i woke up in the morning after watching this OwO

just look at it! people kept laughing and laughing under environmental background which their interaction with it defies the laws of physics XD

  • Anyone else reminded of "Fool in the Rain"? The parts where Robert Plant's voice sounds like it's echoing really reminds of the "AAAaaaa" in this.

  • I remember when this anime scated me shitless when I was young for some reason. Now I wanna watch it again. xD

  • trippin on acid

  • wtf did i watch? LoL

  • it's really annoying to me what so many people watched this in english dub, i don't know why just... shonen bat sounds so much better than li'l slugger...

  • i remember always thinking what the fuck at the opening... aw satoshi-kon and your epic last words, why'dya have to die...

  • "LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLOLOLOLOLOLOL"

  • Comment removed

  • One of my first animes, I remember when I was around 7 having a crush on the rollerskates boy. xD

  • This fucking opening.

  • I don't know why but this opening gets fascinating everytime i hear it ... I just want to know what the lyrics means !

  • Anyone else think this sounds like yodeling?

  • LIL SLUGGER is the SCARIEST LIL DUDE I SWEAR.

  • How can I describe Lil Slugger in a friendly way... THAT MOTHER FUCKER IS SCARY AND CRAZY AS HELL!!!

  • .....I hated this opening.....with a passion....and yet it still got hooked in my head...friggin show was creepy too....but it was a well thought out anime

  • OMG i remember this back when it was on cartoon network i keep saying why are they laughing lol.

  • I bought this series. IMO the first 5 episodes and the last 3 were good, everything inbetween felt like filler content to me. They could easily sum this whole series up in a movie IMO. Im not saying its bad but there were quite a few boring episodes that added nothing

  • Guys, if you pay attention and know what their trying to say on the lyrics, then you would know why theres people laughing on a bad background

  • What exactly is this movie about and why the hell are there so many people laughing??

  • @PrometheusV2 it's a show, not a movie. and... i guess you just need to watch it for yourself. haha

  • What is the definition of insanity?

  • @HugTower insanity |inˈsanitē|

    noun

the state of being seriously mentally ill; madness : he suffered from bouts of insanity | [as complement ] he attempted to plead insanity.

    • extreme foolishness or irrationality : it might be pure insanity to take this loan | the insanities of our time.

  • F*ck, that was a great anime.

RIP Satoshi Kon, one of the greatsest anime director ever...

  • @SolomonsNightmare and long live hirasawa susumu !

  • Yeah this anime took me a while to understand but i kinda understand it now.

But still, watching this anime makes me feel like that kid is behind me and trying to kill me with that bat.

  • @darkmaster727 he doesn't kill, he hurts you to allow you to escape your life and your lies. The spirit is born from an initial lie : the little dog was killed because the main character of the show was not careful and caring when she was a child, not because of a young aggressor with a bat like she invented. The lie became a daemon hurting people.

  • ....i'll be honest, i tried to watch this anime but didn't really get it at all

  • @dboyd1208 superficially : it's about 2 detective hunting a kid hurting people. in fact, the aggressor is a spirit allowing people to be free from their life and consequences when they are at the end and despaired.

In truth, the show is about lies and consequences. The daemon is a monster, it can't understand what it means to be human. It prevents people to face the consequences and responsibility. In the end, the lie has to be confessed and forgave to end the curse.

  • yeah thnx paranoia agent, i didn´t want to sleep this week or anything -_-

  • @rubenitusprime Hahaha sounds hilarious/good. After have finishing the somewhat sad Ergo Proxy I will take this one =)

  • but... really, what are they laughing at? :D
