  • I can't wait to get mine so i can make shitty generic rock n roll too!

  • @jasperbeardly AWESOME

  • all most bought this shit.... but i already did my Christmas shopping so i didnt.....noe...!!!! said

  • I sthis machine any good for making straight up heavy metal drum sound with fills and stuff? Thank s I appreciate it.

  • is it midi ?

  • i have all the samples of this machine its cool :))

  • Can you download kits from the internet, (like VST) on here?

  • Can you plug a mic in to this & record vocals over the top of your music?

  • to gearwire,is there anyway that we can assign the pads? boss originally had a chance for us to change the pads around some. I am not a keyboard player per se,and the way they currently have the bass drum and snare drums set on this machine is crazy, because everyone doesn"t think like a kyeboard player.

  • Any Pianos, strings or intrument sounds like the dr-5???

  • can this work wiv logic pro 9

  • 6:47 i love dire straits

  • check out a song called "Decimator" on my channel to hear a full song mix using the DR880 on drums

  • @mettttal "decimator" pretty good. Great use of the DR-880. sounds like a real drummer no offence to real drummers.

  • I love men

  • Can I record my sounds on to audacity?

  • By the sound of your out of tune guitar "playing" it's pretty obvious that you spend way too much time programming lame drum beats on a computer than playing actual instruments

  • very informative video. i have one for a while never used it. so this video really helps. when i read the manual it just seems like there's too many steps to remember. thanks for posting this video.

  • What would help is if you move your hands a lot faster, and ramble a little more when talking about it. Maybe we could all understand better. Maybe even if you didn't show the machine and just played the sounds and said "well, this is kinda what it sounds like after 6 years of programming it"

  • When you connect to the computer is there a Beat making interphase for it? Easy to use? Can you save beats into your PC? Perhaps you can do a review on the PC part of it?

  • Is this any good for Drum and bass or heavy metal?

  • The Boss is very limited. I have built around 20 songs to play along to live. This has used up around 73 user patterns, but now the problem is it will not let me create any more song parts in the user patterns, when i try to create another new song part, the message MEMORY FULL appears. Although there are 500 user patterns, the overall memory cannot cope. The manual says you can create 100 songs, you cannot. This is a real problem with the Boss, and is very misleading too potential buyers.

  • i can tell you guys from my experince with this unit.IT ROCKS! i got one 2 years ago..i was not playing nearly as much then and i let it go to a freind of mine out of state because he was actually recording and needed it..im a bass player and if your having problems finding people to play with buy this unit and you will have NO excuses..its awesome they are 500$ new and i got one used with a 1 year war from guitar center for 200, IM BUYING it back, should never sold it in the first place! BUY IT

  • This unit is great for House / drum and Bass and Hip hop. I make patterns in it so fast and then midi it to a korg radias and a fantom. The layered bass and drums sound phenomenal. The best thing about this is that you can make loops really quick. The stock bass sounds are nothing spectacular...so you either haveto tweak them or play them through other gear. quality kit this!!!

  • honestly they need to work on making the bass sound a lot better,

it sounds like staight horse shit..

only music that bass would sound good for is bandas and thats pretty sad

  • I have a few questions:

    1. Can I create my own kits thru this box

    2. Can I create whole songs (around 6 mins) and save so I can later use while I play live

    3. Can I record the drum machine with a program such as Audacity

Thank you, for the video and the response when ever possible.

  • can you save drums and bass as midi file on the computer?

  • can export pattern as midi?

so I can change individual sounds on the computer?

  • Does anyone know how well this records onto a mac using garage band through USB? and any other equipment necessary or is it plug and play?

  • thanks for putting this up!

  • does someone have to be playing it for you or can you have it play by itself for you

  • yes, but can it play an habanera tango?

  • Dude tune your guitar... yuck

  • gearwire music intro is just perfect

  • You CAN create your own beats as well. A huge variety of different types ranging from metal and punk to hip hop and trance. It has 500 empty spaces for your recordings and programmings.

  • yea, but my tunes on it are so huge and intricate that i have to back everything up and can only have a few projects going at once on the machine

  • can you only use pre-programmed beats or can you also program your own beats yourself?

  • u can program ur own beats and if u plug it into ur computer u can upload new beats on it... so if u find a cool MIDI file u can copy and paste it into the HDD of the 880 or uc an make ur own on the machine it self and save it

  • @Desert325 so on garage band should you record loops places because you cant add extra notes after you already have uploaded it. Do you know how well it transfers/ quality to a Mac through usb?

  • thaks for u answer, well first, an basic example, mmm like a stone of audio slave... how can i do this drums in my dr 880? thanks i apreciate your help, if u can answer me in spanish, best... grettings. o u can add me in hotmail how saniels.

  • It's a drum machine, not a pedal.

  • Probably. I've got one and I think the bpm can go up to either 220 or 250, doing something crazy like 64ths.

  • Sikfuk uses that :D

  • Is there a way to download some fine jazz drum lines...no bass required...to load into this via midi, etc? I mean the kinda stuff that pro's play into pads...

  • i wish it had a back lit screen.

  • This machine is a piece of shit. MEMORY GETS FULL VERY FAST.

I was only able to make 5 songs on this machine and now says "Memory full".

Boss has no intention to release a patch for this.

    DON'T BUY !!!

  • dont buy your what you do with it, See Im a Producer, so it would be great for me to set up dum patterns and record it live with playing my bass, so just because it doesnt record over 5 songs doesnt mean it sucks

  • Yep, I make song then, record the drum track to my PC. No need for all the memory when save to PC.

  • Your not a producer

  • so you would say this is a great drum machine. I have this drum machine and so far I'm not very impressed with it. I also have the roland TR-909 and that is a pretty great drum machine, I obtained that in 1988.

  • really, What would you say is wrong with it??

  • probably nothing wrong with it just that I need to learn how to use it but most drum machines I've ever had I didn't have to do much to get a lot out of it and I'm bored with the presets, they are not fun to work with. I need a lot of club dance and those kind of drum beats and ideas for drum machines

  • ahh, then this is the wrong machine for you then for sure, this is great for me cuz I play Roots mucis that need Accustic drum sound, I have one that would be PERFECT for you, I took it back cuz all it was, was for Hip hop, dance and all that kind of music, Akai XR20, look that one up, maby better for u, this machine is great for me

  • Well thank you very much, I just looked it up it looks great and nice price too :-)

Now can ya help me out on what synth to buy to play dance/club dance/hip hop/techno all that cool stuff

  • Check out Nord synths - they're pricey but sweet

  • how long were your songs? 30 mins?

  • I have a dr880 and had a GREAT modification done for the live singer/guitarist. No drum machine can and has ever been able to do what this Modification does. If you're interested in Really freeing up your show get in touch with me I'll tell you how its done,!!

  • Hi - I'd be interested in knowing what you've done. I've had one of these for a few years but run it as a sound module! Let me know what you've found out please! Thanks, Dave.

  • Hi Dave,I've had 2 new jack inputs put into the back of the dr880(simple soldering job). One is wired to the left cursor control and the other wired to the right cursor control. This left and right is controlled by 2 footswitches. Make a song in Pttern Mode with int vs ch,4 measures each say, hit the footswitch to move between patterns immediately!! Memory problem solved,AND live playing made soo much easier! Your song can have as many parts as u like too. Any questions get in touch Cheers

  • I'm really intrested in your modification, could you please tell me what it is.

  • how much does this cost?

  • apróx 550 USD, well i buy this machine in México. Someone can showme how to make a song in spanish pls?.. thanks..

  • Sure...

    1. Learn Spanish

    2. Write a song.

    Done!

  • Im a guitarist who is looking for a drum machine and this one looks like the best one to buy but im also a singer/song writer and I was wondering if i could make and record my own songs on this, Im also looking forward to buy one so if you know any other drum machines that might work better for me that would be great, Plz reply.

  • I dont think u can record with this

  • Comment removed

  • Dude. This is a drum machine. NOT a sampler. The MPC wasn't made to be a drum machine. It just so happens it's really great at pretending.

  • i have this unit also i want that roland makes more individual output,

  • this is so cool i cant wait til i get mine!!!!

  • buying this sh*!$!

    cool!

  • Is there any way to sample vinyl onto this?

  • well you could plug the vinyl into the instrument jack

  • Its not a sampler, so probably not

  • it's a great unit, have one of those! give u a hint, which makes a ,monster out of it:

get a jack-jack instrumental cable, plug one side to bass/guitar input and second to one of individual a or b outputs.

now you can assign bass or individual percussion instrument via COSM processor, e.q. delays, phasers, cab sims etc., you can get acid, grime, triphop, dubstep sounds!

this unit is phat as fuk

  • the hip hop, house, trance and electro kits are SICK as hell! i have this little monster

it has some great Bass fonts to work with, as well.

you should just go USER pattern, make the beat, then sequence them, faster. its better to create your own stuff, anyway.

i think i'll go use use it with Fruity Loops 8XXL Producer Edtion.

i mean, it is a Midi-Machine-Control unit, right? haha MMC works with FL8, YO! lmao

  • anybody got one for sale that fell off the back of a truck ;D

  • could i make house music with this? is there good beats and shit 4 house and electro,, and even hip hop?thats what i want 2 do, pleez reply :) oh ,, and can u down load more beats of the inter net with this?

  • while i don't know about downloading more beats, you can definitely make house or electro (do you mean the new electro...electro house...or Aux88 style electro?) One thing I would recommend is get a dbx 266 compressor and run this through it. That's a really cheap way to make this drum machine deliver pro sounding recordings.

  • @gearwire maybe the compressor is what this unit needs, i made a beat and its dull sounding. then i made a beat in live 8 and its full of clarity.

  • sorry bout that. If you'll notice this is part II where I just show how to make a basic loop. Part I has the walk through and highlights the patches and features. We're reposting that right now, although usually we ONLY post part one on the net and let the viewer go to the website for the rest. It should be up within a few days, so keep looking for it.

  • also, the angle is due to the fact that I was sick of straddling the tripod to demo gear. The camera is, in fact, upside down to provide for smoother demos and then the image is flipped.

  • @gearwire do you know how to do a bass slide from note to note on the 880? i noticed there were a couple built in songs that utilized them and when you go into step record there's a letter "P" right where the slide is. i can't figure out how to do it though.

  • I agree, thought it was to be a demonstration, not how well Bill Holland knows the Dr-880.

Whats with the odd camera angle as well? It's as if I'm hanging upside down?!?

    Gearwires slippin' Yo!

  • i think this video is only supposed to deomstrate its capabilities, but yeah tune your fucking guitar :P

  • tune your guitar!!!!!! also you need to slow down and expain step by step at a slower pace but I sure thank you for the info.
