Krav Maga is such a dangerous art that you really can't have a relatively safe competitive way of demonstrating it. I'm sure that the techniques are appliable to even seasoned fighters, otherwise it wouldnt be the martial art of an entire army.

Well, my deduction is simply because generals wouldn't teach their soldiers how to fight if they knew there was a huge weakness in the art and it isn't like don't learn to adapt to fighting styles either. Krav maga is a defensive art, so the core concept is to adapt to any situation, rather than going on the offensive, but when you look at other videos featuring KM, a lot of the moves strike at crucial positions in the body that could kill you if you hit them hard enough.
I have no different opinion in your last post... but i think that martial arts are competitve enough against krav maga and it is silly to say that this is the best and all that stuff i hear about it...
because this has nothing to do with martial arts spirit...

I love Krav Maga. I've been trained in it and the best part about Krav is how simple it is when it comes to movements. Imi designed it to work with the natural movement. It's very effective. The intro was funny though. He countered the blunt weapon right but he should've landed a 7 elbow then pulled the weapon from his hand and bopped him. Israeli special forces were attacked with sticks and knives and some had guns held to their heads. Seriously, though, there are techniques for dealing with multiple opponents, it's just a pretty fundamental flaw in Krav Maga that tactics like these aren't employed by IDF Special Forces. Try watching some of the techniques Paul Vunak uses in his street fighting videos where he explains and demonstrates 'Zoning' and dealing with multiple opponents and you'll understand.
I don't know enough about KM to speak definitively about the system, but as a 25 year martial artist I don't mind saying that the stuff in this flick sucks. I don't mind saying good things about truly good martial artists and giving credit where it is due, but the stuff in this film will get you killed. You don't believe me? Give me a knife and let me come after you with a couple of my untrained streetfighter friends. Do that stuff and let me know how it works out for you. From beyond the grave.

The Krav Maga students I have worked with have decent basic skills. They tend to come in thinking they know more then they do, but I would still say it is one of the better defense arts out there. At least it really does focus on self defense unlike a lot of arts. This video is just embarrassing, though. It doesn't seem to do KM the justice it deserves. From the comments I think people are seeing the same things I am.
Krav Maga is great but the problem with it is that in the instans in the intro is that the three attackers will attack simultainously and not wait until you have beat up his friend before he comes at you

Looks good, solid fighting style and after a bit of research it's something I'd like to try. After reading reviews from other "martial arts practitioners" I felt a small reply to them all was in order. look, KM is and isnt used for killing, here's what i mean, you hear the guy in the video say that special forces learn KM and law enforcement, well the special forces most likely would learn lethal KM, because in a fight like that its either kill or be killed so they would teach techniques to special forces on how to kill quickly. @cachorrofrio id have to agree, i would never try a counter strike someone wielding a knife, thats just not a smart tactic, usually their swinging and frailing the knife manically. you attack the arm holding the knife and get it out of their hands to keep control. the interception he did looked like something out a bruce lee self defense book which is ok if he dont have the knife but with the knife you take no chances whatsoever, you take control of the arm holding it.
Krav Maga seems like a fairly simple yet effective defense technique to learn, but in watching that counter-attack with the knife, that does seem rather dangerous. Are there other good KM instructors out there available to the general public that won't get you killed like this guy? Or, are there any resources to study that are trustworthy? I get the feeling the only good KM one would learn is if they joined the IDF... lol
@cachorrofrio I don't take Krav Maga myself, but I do practice Tae Kwon Do, Escrima (Kali), and Aikido. And, I agree with you 100%. My instructor would stab my leg if I defended against a knife that way.
I do Muay Thai, but I saw a really nasty TKD kick, forgive me if I get the name wrong: spinning heel kick. I'v been working on the kick from time to time, but I'm having a weird problem: since the kick comes off the outer hip rather than the inside, I can't get the kick much higher than the mid section! Any stretches or suggestions for me to get this kick to head level like my other kicks. By the way, I agree that this instruction is just simply dangerous.

yea i really want to learn krav maga, but one thing I have noticed is that it is focused mainly on man on man self defence, what I mean is that you can defend very effectively against one guy coming at you at any one time. What happen if three tries to attack at the same time?
@silverwolfalpha Krav is actually the only martial art that is at least concerned about multiple attackers. We do drills where we attempt to throw off multiple people, deliver some punishment, then move on to the next guy. Martial arts such as brazilian jiu jitsu are certainly effective, but you can't intentionally go to the ground with someone if the guy's buddy is kicking you in the head. In Krav, we work on getting off the ground and/or staying off the ground. Good luck.

@Brady2k10 Martial arts isn't about 'looking cool'. I've studied a range of them for the last 20 years and never once though 'i wonder if i look cool doing this?'. Maybe it's just me. I also found that in a street situation, form is forgotten and the self defence becomes the moves your body instictively knows, you don't have time to 'look cool'. Having said that, Krav is definately one i want to try.

@Brady2k10 I agree with you about Wu Shu, it's too flashy and for show. Most martial arts when broken down are fairly similar and leant properly will help on the street. I have had someone stand there while i kick them in the head though. I've found aspects of TKD to be quite effective on the street, especially the more straight line kicks as 9/10 people won't expect to be kicked in a street fight, certainly not in the head. But yeah, it's the reason i'm starting KM, it's street biased.

basically it teaches you to become a better street fighter, it improves your strikes, and you learn techniques, from getting out of chokes, techniques to counter after you've blocked a punch, and the techniques are short but sweet, there's no fancy high flying kicks, against a street fighter none of that fancy shit will work, they're not stupid. they'll just grab your leg an throw you to the ground, its easy to learn, its effective and in my opinion its a good system

I don't know enough about KM to speak definitively about the system, but as a 25 year martial artist I don't mind saying that the stuff in this flick sucks. I don't mind saying good things about truly good martial artists and giving credit where it is due, but the stuff in this film will get you killed. You don't believe me? Give me a knife and let me come after you with a couple of my untrained streetfighter friends. Do that stuff and let me know how it works out for you. From beyond the grave.

Yes, the techniques in this video is garbage. There is a difference between the real IDF Krav Maga and the scam martial art USA Krav Maga. As a 25 year martial artist, you should know how to debunk these type of things. Then again, you're probably too old to use your comprehension skills.

The Krav Maga students I have worked with have decent basic skills. They tend to come in thinking they know more then they do, but I would still say it is one of the better defense arts out there. At least it really does focus on self defense unlike a lot of arts. This video is just embarrassing, though. It doesn't seem to do KM the justice it deserves. From the comments I think people are seeing the same things I am.

Looks good, solid fighting style and after a bit of research it's something I'd like to try. After reading reviews from other "martial arts practitioners" I felt a small reply to them all was in order. The biggest loss to the "martial arts world" is when people learn a skill, figure their invincible and want to "fight" others, 87Maniatis -... they even state in the video this isn't for belts... or gold stars even.. this is to learn to defend yourself. Go to Israel and pick a fight ... lol g/l

@rukko250 Looks like they were confused. Also, the technique he used to counter the knife is outdated - most KM schools now teach that you should catch and keep control of your opponent's weapon, not going for the kick like that.

(he is retired Israeli Defence Force - I certainly wouldn't mess with him, even though I am trained)

1st: if you walk into a gang its your own fault of been there and if you wheren't, than you simply ignored the fact that there is always more than 1 way.
2nd: Gangs do not attack 1 by 1 these days they don't have such code like Martial Artists have.

@cachorrofrio id have to agree, i would never try a counter strike someone wielding a knife, thats just not a smart tactic, usually their swinging and frailing the knife manically. you attack the arm holding the knife and get it out of their hands to keep control. the interception he did looked like something out a bruce lee self defense book which is ok if he dont have the knife but with the knife you take no chances whatsoever, you take control of the arm holding it.

Krav Maga seems like a fairly simple yet effective defense technique to learn, but in watching that counter-attack with the knife, that does seem rather dangerous. Are there other good KM instructors out there available to the general public that won't get you killed like this guy? Or, are there any resources to study that are trustworthy? I get the feeling the only good KM one would learn is if they joined the IDF... lol

That knife defense shown in the demostration is meant for demostration.
In a real knife defense, there are two techniques or basic skills in Krav Maga.
One is to deflect with an open palm and by using the forearm as a blocking tool
hitting against the opponent's own forearm or below the wrists. The other is to block and hit - offense and defense together.

@cachorrofrio I don't take Krav Maga myself, but I do practice Tae Kwon Do, Escrima (Kali), and Aikido. And, I agree with you 100%. My instructor would stab my leg if I defended against a knife that way.

I do Muay Thai, but I saw a really nasty TKD kick, forgive me if I get the name wrong: spinning heel kick. I'v been working on the kick from time to time, but I'm having a weird problem: since the kick comes off the outer hip rather than the inside, I can't get the kick much higher than the mid section! Any stretches or suggestions for me to get this kick to head level like my other kicks. By the way, I agree that this instruction is just simply dangerous.

Our Green Berets are taught Kun Tao wich is very similar to Systema

yea i really want to learn krav maga, but one thing I have noticed is that it is focused mainly on man on man self defence, what I mean is that you can defend very effectively against one guy coming at you at any one time. What happen if three tries to attack at the same time?

@silverwolfalpha Krav is actually the only martial art that is at least concerned about multiple attackers. We do drills where we attempt to throw off multiple people, deliver some punishment, then move on to the next guy. Martial arts such as brazilian jiu jitsu are certainly effective, but you can't intentionally go to the ground with someone if the guy's buddy is kicking you in the head. In Krav, we work on getting off the ground and/or staying off the ground. Good luck.

plus in this day and age people dont want to spend like 4 or 5 years learning a martial art, well some do and thats ok, but KM is easy and effective and like he says its easy to learn, in israel if you get attacked on the street its usually a life or death situation and so you dont have time to "look good" and on the street anywhere its the same. Wouldnt you be pissed if you spent 5 years doing a martial art only to be beaten in a street fight because you tried to look cool fighting

@Brady2k10 Martial arts isn't about 'looking cool'. I've studied a range of them for the last 20 years and never once though 'i wonder if i look cool doing this?'. Maybe it's just me. I also found that in a street situation, form is forgotten and the self defence becomes the moves your body instictively knows, you don't have time to 'look cool'. Having said that, Krav is definately one i want to try.

@Brady2k10 I agree with you about Wu Shu, it's too flashy and for show. Most martial arts when broken down are fairly similar and leant properly will help on the street. I have had someone stand there while i kick them in the head though. I've found aspects of TKD to be quite effective on the street, especially the more straight line kicks as 9/10 people won't expect to be kicked in a street fight, certainly not in the head. But yeah, it's the reason i'm starting KM, it's street biased.

@sixstrings209 hi , am doing this style for allmost 2 years now , have done other styles myself , it has many simularities , but krav maga is really effective on the streets, having found myself in a couple of fights since i started , i safed myself out of it every time ,because there are no rules in how much force you can use , and the honour / ring fighting aspect is not present , try take a free lesson and find out , i have done boxing , karate, jui jitsu , and now krav maga

The thing I asked someone who was a wrestler and fought in cages and he said to me that is the most effective and dangerous style because you need to understand that those moves are meant to kill not to knock out someone.Knee to the face is illegal, and other stuff too. but since the spec ops and fbi cia practice it. it must be for a reason

basically it teaches you to become a better street fighter, it improves your strikes, and you learn techniques, from getting out of chokes, techniques to counter after you've blocked a punch, and the techniques are short but sweet, there's no fancy high flying kicks, against a street fighter none of that fancy shit will work, they're not stupid. they'll just grab your leg an throw you to the ground, its easy to learn, its effective and in my opinion its a good system
