What I love about Dionne's version of this song, is that you can understand every single word she sings. With Anita Baker, like all of her songs, I scratch my head wondering what on Earth are the words she is singing.
I LOVE THIS BREAK DOWN ON THIS SONG at 2L50 mark!! This sets the tone of this song for me!! I LOVE THIS VERSION!! THE ORIGINAL VERSION...and I LOVE Anita's cover of this!!
is this the original? I thought Anita's was first. What year was this video? I love both -but Dionne created an amazing vocal performance, it's unmatchable.
@MrTre5670 Dionne Warwick has been groomed to be a black singer with an edge who the caucasian audiences could LOVE without that "ETHNIC" sound..her voice has been smooth and classy...unlike Cissy Houston, her aunt, who is a belter...like Aretha and Patti!! Many of the "non-ethnic" people don't understand the African American culture with song and that BELT!! Though some try to duplicate it or at least know the feeling..a lot don't understand it and Dionne helped to define that experience
this may have already been discussed but um who sung the song first Dionne or Anita? Jus discovering how great Dionne was but Anita owns this song LOL
no one in the world like dionne / no one in the world like dionne voice her style in singing her powerful voice and a pipe voice with the true queen amazing
my first concert live is dionne warwick on the phillipines live shes the first singer i watch live in my whole life cause im her #1 fans and she gave me her 2 CD's and HER towel thnks!! dionne your number one
I'm 32 yrs. old and my first concert was Dionne Warwick. I was in the 4th grade and my parents were going but couldn't get anyone to watch me so I had to go. It was the tour she did when the Reservations for Two album was out. It was sort of life changing-a small round stage-just her-and I remember she held these notes that went on for hours-it seemed unreal. Very thankful my parents couldn't get a babysitter. Will always be a great fan.
I must admit I had to hold my chin to make sure my mouth doesn't stay open listening to Dionne here. How come there is no singer in my generation that I see could follow Dionne's footsteps. Pure talent is she. When I talk of Dionne I talk of true singing talent.
This song was from her Finder of Lost Love CD/album. I like Anita Baker and I like Dionne Warwick. I've always been a huge fan of Dionne's and I saw her and Burt Bacharach in concert several yrs ago at Wolftrap. I wish she would have more hits. Yes, she's still touring the world. I hope she gave up smoking. It did do a number on her voice. It's not apparent on here but I've seen/heard her more recently. Love CD Dionne Sings Dionne2 import. Too bad it wasn't released here.
@MrTre5670 hmmnn you know dionne is A Simple singer always give serious in singing not like patti patti always screaming ....... why patti get the title of "amazing queen of music" but dionne get the title of "the queen of music" .....if i know dionne is first superstar before that patti am right??
Awesome live version. What's amazing about this is there isn't a backup vocal anywhere on the stage. Dionne's covering this difficult gem all by her lonesome. Great video.
I went to see Anita Baker on Friday and she mentioned Dionne Warwick originally did this song. I was so pleasantly surprised. Listening to this version makes me love the song even more. Dionne brings such class to everything she sings.
Fabulous! She is a remarkable singer. She can't be emulated but she should be studied by anyone who wants to become a singer..when to expand a note, when to hold back, and when to go full throttle.
Wow! What a fantastic performance :-) Not afraid at all of the reflective opening verse and the explosive realisation at the end (how could any man not know how much she meant it?) ... As with so many of her performances this is a masterclass of singing . This is the best live version I've heard of this tune. From 2.45 the song simply rocks with the apex being the beautiful vamp at 3.32 to 3.39 and then the intelligent, creative ending. Leave the other 'divas' in the shade, IMHO
You are absolutely right. She's traveled and concerted as much as if not more than almost any other singer I can think of. She still has an amazingly full performance schedule. I don't think there's a singer out there with more mileage than Dionne when it comes to live performance.
Would love the official figures on that Keith, I can't find any but it is one in the eye for her detractors. whose idols have performed with no where near the frequency of Dionne and for so many years. Smoking, her constant touring, and some of her earlier vocal acrobatics clearly took thieir toll on Dionne's voice but she is still a splendor in so many ways.
No one in the world like Dionne Warwick and this woman as travelled the world entertaining the folks for over four decades. Has any artist ever done as many concerts as Dionne, surely she holds the record.
dionne song the song to pop and anita baker song the song soulful thats why anita version went no.1

Great, great song...Thanks so much Mike!
Dionne has her own special way with what I call "Memories Songs"....songs of previous loves and lovers....
They're sad and happy at the same time...
Why?...
Happy because you realize that you did have such love at one time...sad because somehow you lost it...
but some never have it all....
You realize that you really are lucky to have loved...and been loved...Love is really what life is all about!
Thanks for sharing & sending Mike...
