  • What colors would one use for Salamander faces, I was planning on just going Badab over the Dwarf flesh, please help :D

  • Very nice like that u where gloves. Very clean videos happy that there something out there for the rookie painters and even a different take on things for the veteran painter. Great job!!!

  • What model is that? Custom made?

  • what was the purpose of the lich purple wash? it seems like a really weird color to mix for skin tone. i'm just learning how to paint but i don't see why you would use purple if you were just going to paint over it again and leave detailed areas of the purple still showing.

  • the camera focusing gives me a headache

  • Not how you spell colour. Tut tut tut.

  • great video, havent painted in about 5 months and this was a great refresher and probably one of the most potent ways to do skin quickly AND efficiently. thanks!

  • nice job but in my opinion that model ( apart from master tigurous ) has one of the most awkward / screwed up faces of all of gw history

  • @blacktemplars300 they are tyranid hunters... that's a job where its employees dont even last as long as social workers. They're gonna look FRAKKED, which is good.

  • Hey I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to paint salamanders faces. thanks

  • 1:40 TOO MUCH PIE

  • Is that a custom model?

  • I love purple washing. I don't know why people don't do it more often. I started using purple washes on orc mouths and deep gore, but it grew from there. And the stubble is awesome.

  • just re-painted my DA assault squad serg. started with bestial brown, then dwarf flesh, then baal red wash then wroked up from a 50/50 of dwarf and elf flesh all the way to bleached bone. it looks amazing. i didnt have liche purple so i used something close...still looks really good. Using your concepts I have turned my model from an abomination to something im pleased with! thank you very much for this video!

  • Hi,i wonder if you know how to paint black legion chaos space marine faces,if you know how to,please tell me how to do it,i will be glad if you post a video about it.Thanks.

  • @awesomepaintjob Les, I'm sure you've already covered my question in some way/form, but what would one use to create stubble effects with Games Workshop equivalents?

  • Quick question Les, what color would you use for red hair? I haven't seen anybody on here asking that, and my space marines are some space wolves descendants, with a very white scars/ ultramarines with stealth overtones look. Overall very original, I think. Oh yeah, they also wear the blood spattered upon them by their melée kills as badges of honor.

  • Good to know this. Please do a Catachan more extended flesh tutorial when possible scars blood and so on :).

  • Not a bad video. I personally think the purple should have beeen watered down a bit more and done as a glaze but thats just me.

  • I bought this model specifically because of this video. Holy cow, it is way smaller in real life than this video makes it appear.

  • Do you water down your paints for the whole figure or just certain small areas like the face? If so what paint to water ratio do you use?

  • um...quick question, what thickness brush do you use, cos i'm using a 00 and it dosent realy do good enough...

  • Hey Les.

Do you paint the body (muscles) of SM with the same scheme (dwarf flesh; lich purple; elfe flesh)?

  • great tutorial lester really helps, thanks.

  • How do you keep your fine detail brushes so sharp? Usually my fine detail brushes will turn blunt and bushy at the tip after around 100minis.

  • You should have a go at painting eyes I do and they look good. Also I find that a browny-red will look better for a skin shade also nice video ur a really neat painter.

  • I just got this exact model because of this video. The head is way smaller than it looks in the video. I hope I can do a decent job.

  • I like to shade with a baby poop color.

  • Nice job, purple seemed a bit extreme for me but it worked out well in the end!

  • Thanks for sharing :)

  • Could you use this technique for guard faces as well?

  • my dwarf flesh is very streaky how do i fix this

  • Why did you use purple for the shadow?

  • Very simple but extremely effective - thanks for the tip!

  • "they look like they are on drugs.... all dilated and crazy..."

    lol

    :D

    cheers for the video :)

  • I can't believe Im just now finding your channel! i gotta say thank you very much for putting something that most would charge lotsa money for on youtube for free. Youre just awesome for that

  • gday great work of course, just a few questionsi saw on your site and saw u use HP-CS Airbrush and was wondering if it can change spray sizes and what song is that in the background?

  • Comment removed

  • dude, your sucha boss.

  • Great tutorial

  • Step 2 looks like tyranid blood :)

  • As always your videoes are incredible thank you very much for your tutoriales and it continues doing them ¡

  • I like the purple wash, i have been trying with ogyrn brown, delvin mud but i just don't get the effect i want. The tutorial was excellent right to the point and quick, i hate 20 tutorials for maybe 5 bits of info.

  • space marines lookin all high xD well they do have a lot of drugs pumping through those suits

  • You should learn to paint the eyes, they really bring the model to life if done properly.

  • I usually do something to them but this was a "quick and dirty" face tutorial.

  • what was at 3:29 ? LOOK IN THE VERY BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER!

  • @MrKoiking1 I don't see what you are trying to bring attention to. My glove?

  • @awesomepaintjob ALIEN CONPSIRACY! or maybe just your glove..

  • @awesomepaintjob

i think it is meant to look like a penis or something?

  • amazing vid

    ur amazing

  • Ive only done eyes three time

    1 came out terrible

    2 they look like eyes

3 reason why all my CSM wear helmets

  • Great video, I don't like painted eyes either....they freak me out!

  • For eyes I usually paint them bleached bone or off white and wash them with the mid-tone, that way they are not dark holes as well as they don't give that crazy drug-abuser vibe you mentioned. It's just that hint of light-reflection / brightness in all that shadow that makes the chaps look a bit more realistic.

  • WoW great vid thx....it's really helpful.

  • Excellent as always bro.

  • awesome. Thanks for sharing :)

  • How about a look at ork flesh?

  • awesome as usual. So all together that looked to be 3-4 coats for the head alone...

  • not bad it took me awhile to see where the lich purple was going at first i thought it just made him look aweful but once it was done i saw how it gave nice tone to the scars on that characters face not sure if i would use it in the eye recess though id possibly go with baadab black or chaos black and just leave it at that but i do like how the tones came out overall great vid gave me some good pointers on doing exposed face i dont like to have them where i can avoid it but i will try it soon

  • its a great vid, at 1:31 it looks like he's spilled grape juice lol

  • great vid bro

  • Thanks for all the answers about the gloves. They are all correct. It's to help the camera.

  • @awesomepaintjob awesome idea

  • agree about the eyes, 99% of the time it looks bad

  • 10/10 ; )

  • dude ur paint jobs r sexy

  • Les you dont play 40K do you? Not the gaming side of it?

  • Unfortunately since my army is an IG 'un I have to "rush" my faces in comparison to this but they still look just fine... I'm particularly proud of a Commissar I did last who I managed to give a lot of character to...

Anyway, I undercoat tallarn flesh, then apply a wash of ogryn flesh, then put on a 50/50 mix of tallarn and elf flesh (I am a cheap sod) leaving all the recesses, and then highlight with elf flesh... For the Commissar I replaced the middle stage with a grey mix :P

  • Do you use citadels paints or use more oil paints on ur warhammer miniatures?

  • I use vallejo acrylics for most and oils for certain effects and filters

  • Ultramarine likes blue berries. om nom nom lol.

  • Not a good face to use, but love the tips on stubble.

  • Aye the face is a bit on the ugly and distorted side but I was tired of seeing it blue so I decided to turn the camera on while I painted the face.

  • interesting. Not sure I'm a fan of the finished result but I may try the purple. I've not used purple before. Can't hurt :) - Rob

  • ahhh man that was just freaking sick!

Definitely will assist me with my upcoming marauders ;D

  • I've tried painting eyes on Space Marine sergeants but they ended up looking terrible. I've realised that with the correct shading you don't need to do eyes at all.

  • Why the rubber gloves?

  • The rubber gloves are use so the camera doesn't refocus as often for movement. It'll tend to stay focused on the miniature.

  • im soo glad I subbed you :)

  • Oh and also , A good way to paint eyes is to have the eye white not white . Bleached bone mixed with a small drop of white is what i usually use . It will tone down the drug abuse look . Then I thin down Black to the point its not a wash , its water with colour and slowly build up the black so yo can slowly fix them if they turn crosseyed . Sorry for the looong comment , just thought it would help ;)

  • Hey les ! Im wondering , I usually paint my marines in a much darker skin tone , in order to level out the brightness of my Salamanders armour . Would the purple wash still do it for Tallarn flesh or dark flesh ?

  • aye that or blue work great. The blue tricks the eye into thinking the details are farther away while warm tone highlights like the flesh colors GW has are appropriate for highlights and seem closer.

  • @1ReadCorsair hahahahahahahahahahah

  • fuck me........

  • THANK YOU so much les I have been trying to find away to paint shaved heads for years now I understand THANK YOU buddy

  • can u do a necron warrior with rust

  • @thisisnotafake thats like the easiest thing ever, just put brown ink over it and tin bitz if your hardcore :)

  • i meant an to add with an orignal colour scheme because almost all are the same

  • Love your intros lol

  • painting was awesome, don't get me wrong on that

but the model itself looked like it came out the warp.

  • @mortuus8 yeah, i just put on elf flesh and a wash lol

  • I think all tyranic war vets are a bit warped :)

  • I must admit, if i had come face to face with a 10ft bug and survived, i would probably be a bit warped myself

  • Wow, awesomeeeeee

  • Hey Les,

what paints did you use to paint the armor on the sm?

    was it airbrushed btw?

Thanks! Great tutorial by the way.

  • @Kryptoslol It was airbrushed with black regal blue and ultramarine blue.

  • so mixed ultramarine & regal blue with black and just apply it with the 3 colors in 1 pot?

  • no in layers

  • totaly agree with you on the eyes. it should be left alone. "Wonder why your marines miss all the time? Crossed eyed...."

  • sweet. if im painting plague marines skin, how would i make it look rotting.

  • @Altier215 oooo.. that would be a good tutorial. It's now on the list.

  • oh, really, thanks so much dude. that will really help. here was my idea i had for it and it looks good, but you could probably make it look kick ass. same as this vid, but colors were substituted a little.

    dwarf=adeptus battle grey

    purple=scab red

    elf=codex grey

stubble, if any would be same.

pocks and stuff i dont know, i guess thats what i need to get to grips on.

  • That looks excellent. hove long do you wait between coats .

  • @GvendurE I cheat with a heat gun to speed the drying process. If you like to paint fast a heat gun or blow dryer is the key.

  • Looking nice gonna have to try this, any specific reason why you were wearing gloves in this vid over your others?

  • wow that looks awesome.

  • OMFG SUPPPPPPER NICE :D it is nice to by back and se this man supper nice how 2 :D

  • That's a face only a mother could love :D

When I paint stubble on my guys I usually just mix the colour I want with glaze medium 3:1 Glaze:colour, works well.

    nice vid as ever.

  • nice it works really well with the urple on the model and i might cerianlt use this effect on some on my spare marines!

  • nice and cheese intro just how i like em ;) love the toutorial

  • Excellent!

  • wat is the model you are using?

  • It's an Ultramarines Tyranid Veteran. Should be able to find them on the GW site, there's four different ones and come in packs of two.

  • Les, what do you think about the Vallejo Skin Wash instead of purple ? Did you try it ?

Thank you for spending your time for us.

    P.S.: Where's the Black Templars 2nd part ? :-D

  • there isnt a black templar part 2, i think.

  • excellent tutorial,

just wondering, are you wearing gloves?

  • @dannijt

yea he is so the camera can pick up the details better. if he used his bare hands like his first few vids the color composition of the vid doesnt come out as well.

  • I am happy for you to have enought time a week to post one vid/tutorial. This is some beutiful work. Love it I would have never thought of using purple wash on skin.

  • one complaint. 1 upload a week is not enough les.

love the purple and stuble effects :)

  • prupel wash looks great

much more realistic than brown washes for the skin is red-blue under the surface

i would had some even brighter almost white highlights

on nose and head... to simulat light refelecting on the bald head :D

  • Great advice/tips, I see Purple washes/inks1 being used lots now on faces.. on gold armour...etc. It's an interesting take.... I must try it...

  • fingerprints a bitch.

  • very nice, never thought of using a purple wash for depth on skin!

  • Great video thx :-)

  • interresting with the purple wash. i usaly use brown colours for that.

    greetings, Alexandra

  • no problem! When I put the purple on it gets a bit scary but it cleans up nice for a 15 minute face :)

  • thanks for the tutorial! Its been a big help.

  • cool i've never been able to paint faces!
