I love your truck man my neighbor had one just like it but his was a 63 it was used for 20+ years snow plowing the frame broke in half and he welded it back up and kept plowing snow with it these little trucks are tough
@jpm7602 oh yea pipeline trails are nice going north right now, a friend of mine just got back, lots of mudd and hidden rocks. if you guys ever come thru antigo on your way to wheel, you should pick me up, i miss wheeling so much, but had to sell my rig after i became disabled and moved here, ive done some around here, but i grew up rock crawling in California in the mountains, but i miss it like i would miss breathing but wheeling is still in my veins
where can i get the stuff to do a spring over lift in a 66 scout 800 ? can you buy the kit anywhere that comes with shocks and new perches and all the extensions you need?
I got the axles from a 79 scout II and then put on new perches. I went with BDS shocks. there is a high steer kit for the Dana 44 to help with steering issues. I made a custom tie rod because I also installed a power steering gear from a 79 ford F150 it has the steering gear on the inside of the frame.
a manual transmision allows you to crawl down things using lower gearing to your advantage where an automatic you need to hang on the brakes. if you have access to a manual trans I would go that way but if you have an automatic and cash outlay is a minimum you can wheel with an automatic
depends on waht your doin. but i say yes, especially in mud. because when your in mud if the main thing is if your movin, keep movin but if you start red lining your rpms you have to shift, in a manual you lose power for a split second, no matter how fast you are when you shift, where as in an automatic, you dont.
@robertdihno If You Trail Riding Only Go with a Granny 4spd. If You Trail Ride and Mud Bog Go with an Automatic. Clutches tend to burn up quickly when mud bogging.
what size tires are those? ive got a 62 scout im putting dana 44s from a 75 scout and going soa. im trying to get a good picture of what its gonna look like but i cant find a decent picture
these are BFG 33 x 10.50 I went with the 10.50 because I still run the original 15x7" wheel and could not mount a 12.50 on it. I have had a 33x12.50 on as a spare for a trail fix it looked sweet. This has dana 44's as well with 488 gears a detroit in the rear and a tru trac in the front. It will come out this spring with all new steel floors, rockers, tanks, tank surround. I hope to get pics up soon

i have a few 152s, a 196, and 2 304s and the best i think is the 196. good for off roading but not a tank like the 304. all you need is the 4spd

that scout is badass i actually want to sell my truck and buy one now

ok, thanks you do a spring over conversion?
pusckov 3 years ago
ya its a spring over dana 44's with a detroit in the rear and a tru trac in the front with 488 gears also a power steering gear out of a F-150
jpm7602 3 years ago
dont the 1966 scouts have the 196ci
pusckov 3 years ago
the first came with a 152 which is half of the 304 I believe and then came the 196 which is half of the 392. this came with a whopping 88 Hp
